So what, a car is something used to get from A to B, via C, D, E, F etc.

The above is clearly a comment from someone not into cars at all.

Whats the point in getting a car which does 150, 160 mph, when in the U.K. you can't go more than 70, where speed cameras are everywhere, and the roads ain't very good.

Unlike in Germany, we have speed limits.

And the price of fuel is getting more and more expensive, so yes you can buy a 150 mph sports car and attempt to drive it near it's full potential, until you hit heavy traffic, or a pot-hole, or need to carry more stuff than just a bag.

This morning I had to take some garden rubbish to the dump in some old coal-sacks (tree cuttings etc), so my car was turned into a van. You try doing that in your lovely Datsun 350Z.

^Honestly, I agree.

But I see it from both of your points of view.

I'd never put some garden rubbish in a 350Z.

That's why I'd have two cars:

->one which will be powerful, beautiful, always clean. A car I'll be pleased with. this one will be never used when it snows.

->And another one, to put rubbish in, or to go to the supermarket... It'll be an everyday car.(I'll be pleased with this one too, I love driving, whatever it could be!)

Of course it would be nice to have a "sunday drive" car, like my next-door neighbour has got (Porsche 911) to keep it for nice days when it's sunny and you fancy a drive. But for day-to-day use, it's better to have a everyday car to use everyday. But with road-tax costing £200, it gets expensive to run 2 cars (and find space to put another car, we have trouble with getting 4 cars in our drive-way)

Indeed,a true car enthusiast would not bring up those things mentioned by Dave,it does not matter that you cannot use it to its maximum potential, but the mere fact that it is able to do that speed, quarter mile etc..is enough.

I have owned some fast cars over the last 10 years, and nothing can compare to the absolute fun that it provides!!

And the absolute horror of having to go to court when you get caught speeding when driving at near it's full potential.

The roads at the moment are a horror, after a few hot days and after a day and a bit of rain & wind, the roads are greasy with wet leaves, so if your not careful you hit a hidden puddle going around a bend going a wee bit fast and you will spin the car as the left wheel goes from 60 to about 30 in a few seconds.

My car has a top speed of 120 mph, the most I have managed to get out of it is just under 100 mph coming back along the Newbury By-Pass at 3 in the morning. There is talk by the Greenies to bring in maximum speeds & horsepower to a "limit" (so 20 mph & 23 horsepower then).

So Rick, are you one of those people who wank over meaningless stats.

Oh look my car does the 0 to 62 mph in 3.42142 seconds which is 0.00002 seconds faster than your car (even though the 0 to 62 time is worked out on a computer and to get close to it in real life means dropping the clutch in first at the engine at high revs).

Oh look my car does 198 mph which is 2 mph faster than your car...

Oh look my car can pull 2G in the corners...

Oh look my car can crumble to the size of a tissue-box when I hit it into a lorry/brick wall at 150 mph.

Having a dream sports car is nice, but in the world we live in, sports cars will soon be "as evil" as 4x4s are. Pull me apart if you want, but to me a car which is better to drive at low speeds and has a nice seat is better than a car which can go to 200 mph and accelerate like a rocket.

Oh calm down, whats your problem?? :dozey:

i drive a citreon xsara picasso not very cool is great for going to gigs though and is diesel so get loads of miles to the gallon

^^Before really getting interested in design, I used to compare and even learn the statistics (power/ torque/ weight/ length/ width/ height/ fuel consumption and so on... even the price of all the available engines)

And then, I lost the track of all those statistics while I got more into design. I remember of course what I learnt before, and I carry on learning, cos I read car magazines a lot.

I've always been passionate by statistics, mechanical settings (supension/engine/gearbox/aerodynamic)

You can't avoid statistics when it comes to cars, even if you don't pay attention to them.

Oh, it's not that bad, then!

Is it a 2.0 HDI 90hp or 1.6 HDI 110hp?

The HDI is a wonderful engine, a good step up from the old Peugeot-Group turbo diesel lump.

Diesel is the way forward.

True.

They really made their reputation with the HDI.

We can't really praise french car manufacturers for their fuel engines...

The only 6 cyl. PSA/Renault is 210hp since.... nearly 10 years.

If you pick only one 6cyl engine from another car manufacturer, f.e. BMW... a 6cyl 3.0 version is 265hp.

^hey, you're kidding, aren't you? Which engine you do have under the hood of your mustang?

Yeah let's ignore that one aye...

^Well, no, it's intriguing...

I don't see which generation of Mustang would have a french engine... lol!

He might be wrong somewhere... or he bought a fake Mustang. :laugh3: Which is barely believable.

Since the beginning, the Mustang always had american engines. And it carries on with the latest generations.

Though, I don't why they'd pick a french engine... The best we have is V6 3.0 210hp. (although there was a 255hp version in the Clio V6 -pure rubbish-)

I was not referring to that Mike...

^ooh, ok!

According to you, which brand has the best engines? And Why?

  • 3 weeks later...

Some-one stole my hub-cap yesterday :veryangry:

And before anybody says "it might have fallen off", it had 2 cable-ties holding it onto the wheel.

It was a 2002 V6.

But I have a 2006 V8 now. And I haven't bothered looking at who the engines made by...

American cars are hardly American anymore...parts from supposedly "American" vehicles are being imported from all over the world. I mean, look at the Ford GTX1, which is basically just a more powerful version of the Ford GT. It has German wheels, Italian brakes, British gearbox and body, the steering rec is from Aston Martin, and the chassis is from Lotus.

Well, your previous mustang can't have a french engine.

American & French car manufacturers don't have many many contacts... Except Ford & PSA for the diesel engines... Although it's rather Ford Germany, than Ford USA...
