October 19, 200619 yr Author Artist Of The Week (2006/10/18 - 2006/10/25): Animal Collective some songs: Winter's Love: http://www.sendspace.com/file/vo6y1p Winter's Love (live): http://youtube.com/watch?v=7zbYYKzTFeQ Grass: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ejp5yu Turn Into Something: http://www.sendspace.com/file/z2e3os Prospect Hummer: http://www.sendspace.com/file/eaxdov Animal Collective are probably the most original music artists of the last 3-4 years. They are a quite interesting band which experiments in many things. The genre of their music is something between folk and indie pop with some psycho rock effects. But at the same time neither of those. It's impossible to describe their music style actually, they are inventing their own unique sound, so don't be surprised if we'll have a music genre called Animal Collective in some years. If you are looking for catchy indie songs, then pass them and don't read further. If you are looking for meaningful lyrics, then forget Animal Collective. You'll need time to love them, they are not an easy band to listen to. They will never be your favourite band unless you are a really weird person. But the simple and at the same time twisted brilliance of their music will get you into them. Creative is probably the best word to describe them. After all, Animal Collective is about fun. So if you are searching for some fresh, good sound to explore, then Animal Collective is your choice. current rating: 8.2/10 potential rating: 9.3/10
October 25, 200619 yr Author Album Of The Week (2006/10/26 - 2006/11/02): Tortoise - A Lazarus Taxon Again a 2006 album. Well, not really a real album, it's a compilation. A compilation of previously unrelased Tortoise remixes, live recordings http://www.sendspace.com/file/ntelv9 P.S : i'll have to re-edit this review because i deleted the previous one, by coincidence
October 25, 200619 yr yay for Tortoise! :) my friends and i ran into them at the airport after a music festival last year.
October 26, 200619 yr Author Song Of The Week (2006/10/26 - 2006/11/02): TV On The Radio - I Was A Lover First of all, TV On The Radio have showed an incredible progress from their debut album (OK Calculator) to their last (Return To Cookie Mountain). Their sound has changed a lot during the years and obviously into the good direction. Back to song, I Was A Lover is the opener of the album. The song itself is woozy, dopey, a bit "drunk", confusing in some parts, psychedelic if you like this impression. But at the same time it's a very emotional song "I was a lover before this war" ; “Try to breathe as the world disintegrates”. It starts with some slow upbeat electronics, continues having some greatly built piano parts inside around 2:24 - 2:25, and ends with experimental post rock noises. This song perfectly introduces you into this "monster album" which is band's best release to date. Both, the song and the album are among my favourite releases this year. 9.5/10 http://rapidshare.com/files/755636/01_-_I_was_a_lover.mp3.html
