Amen, the scientist best be top 5

i hope i see crests of waves high up there...and spies

I'm thinking Clocks or The Scientist will snatch the #1 spot.

Although Fix You is one of their most beautiful songs, in my opinion! I'm pretty confident it will make top 5!

Politik, A Message, Yellow, and Ladder to the Sun might make it too!

So confused :P

-Cody :D

Politik will be number one.

dude you rock. Thank you for doing this.

and i think Fix you should be number 1.

Such a good way to describe the love between man and woman.

I also can see in my life that the girl of my dreams is a ladder to the sun... to daylight. light and love.

Back to the source.

From the very start

Came Earth parted

Broke up into pieces and...

There's a chance I could have missed it

It could risked it

But I put myself into your hands

Cos you're not just anyone

You're a ladder to the sun

You're not just anyone

You're a ladder to the sun

I can run my courses

Opposing forces

Then I

If you want me you can have me

Oh take me, oh baby grab me

Cos If you want me then you can have me

Cos you're not just anyone

You're a ladder to the sun

You're not just anyone

You're a ladder to the sun

... You cannot run

I had it all and I risked it

I had it all and I risked it all

And I risked it all

And I risked it all

A ladder to the

A Ladder to the sun

A ladder to the

A ladder to the sun

A ladder to the

A ladder to the sun

And I risked it all

A ladder to the

A ladder to the sun

And I risked it all

I risked it all

I had it all

I risked it all

A ladder to the sun

the feeling i get from this song is a feeling i get from a few other coldplay song' date=' and its almost a feeling of dispair when your telling someone you love them so much dispite anything that happens in the world and they look you in the eye and smile and say "It's only superstition/Only your imagination"[/quote']

I think its about insane superstitions and the anxiety which come along with them' date=' sounds like obsessive compulsive disorder to me. Could be reading too much into it but its makes sense.[/quote']

A cardboard head

I see has found its way to me,

It's old and it's old and it's old

Making me cry.

I sleep but I will not move,

Too scared to leave my room

But I won't be defeated, oh no.

What if cards don't go my way?

And it's sure to spoil my day.

But in voices loud and clear

you say to me "it's only superstition.

It's only your imagination,

It's only all of the things that you fear

and the things from which you can't escape."

Keep clean for the thousandth time

Stand still and wait and line.

Some numbers are badder than others, oh no.

What if cards don't go my way?

And it's sure to spoil my day

But in voices loud and clear you say to me

"it's only superstition.

It's only your imagination

It's only all of the things that you fear

and the things from which you cannot expect."

But it's making me cry, and it's making me cry

And I'm slipping away and I'm slipping away

It's only superstition, only your imagination

It's only superstition, only superstition.

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. So beautiful and romantic and sad' date=' all at the same time, like a man needs proof that life is worth living, and he looks at those important to him and realizes that it is worth living, and those people are proof.[/quote']

i identify very deeply with the "in you i find proof" theme. i often find myself in one of those states where i don't know what the fuck is going on' date=' or anything is, or anything... and i need some assurance that there is a real world out there, and that it makes sense on a level that at least at points has something in common with my innate sense-- you know, with my being. The best assurance i have of this is a girl i know.[/quote']

This is easily the most pulchritudinous Coldplay song I have ever heard. I needed to find a better word than beautiful just because that is just how heavy this song is emotionally. I really like the somber piano and sincerity in Chris Martin's voice. My only question is why the hell did they leave this off the record? It could have easily replaced the cheesy "Swallowed In the Sea."

So I waited for you

What wouldn't I do?

And I'm covered, it's true

I'm covered in you

If I ever want proof

I find it in you

Yeah I honestly do

In you I find proof

Light and dark

A bright spark

Light and dark

And then, light

So I waited all day

What wouldn't I say?

And are there things in your way?

Things happen that way

Oh

And if I ever want proof

Then I find it in you

Oh

Yeah I honestly do

In you I find proof

Light and dark

A bright spark

Light and dark

And then, light

Light

Light

Light

Light

I think this song is about an equal loving relationship that just feels right. I believe it's equal and the love is returned because he says they're always looking out for eachother. The only part I can't really understand is why he says

"So, I like a quiet time, please

Yeah, I like a quiet time"

Maybe he just wants a quiet time to reflect on this love and how it has the power to make him "feel cured". Overall I think this is a beautiful song...

I think that it may have to do with a friend who he is in love with. She is in another relationship and he is worried about her' date=' and thinks she may end up hurt. He does so much for her, and she does alot for him, but he is not in a situation to tell her his concerns and of his love for her.[/quote']

I feel safe, I feel warm

When you're here and I do no wrong

I am cured when I'm by your side

I'm alright, alright

I am safe when I am with you

And I feel warm if you want me to

I am cured when I'm by your side

I'm alright

Careful where you stand, my love

Careful where you lay your head

It's true we're always looking out for one another

I feel safe when I am with you

And I feel warm when you want me to

I am cured when you are around

I'm alright

Careful where you stand, my love

Careful where you lay your head

It's true we're always looking out for one another

So, I like a quiet time, please

Yeah, I like a quiet time

And careful where you stand

Now, careful where you stand

The single What If was released on 27th June 2006 in Belgium.

There is no video for this release.

"Lyrically' date=' its the best Chris has ever written. It sounds really pompous, but you know how Imagine talks about how what if everything was great? This is the flipside to that: if everything's shit, what would you do?"[/quote']

This song is obviosuly about Chris' worries with his daughter Apple. Every first parent thinks about things like what if she doesnt like me' date=' what if I'm a bad parent, what if I make a mistake that seriosuly fucks up her life.[/quote']

What if there was no light

Nothing wrong, nothing right

What if there was no time

And no reason, or rhyme

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in your life

What if I got it wrong

And no poem or song

Could put right what I got wrong

Or make you feel I belong

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there by your side

That you don't want me there in you life

Oooooooh that's right

Let's take a breath, jump over the side

Oooooooh that's right

How can you know it if you don't even try

Oooooooh that's right

Every step that you take

Could be your biggest mistake

It could bend or it could break

But that's the risk that you take

What if you should decide

That you don't want me there in your life

That you don't want me there by your side

Oooooooh thats right

Let's take a breath, jump over the side

Oooooooh that's right

How can you know it when you don't even try

Oooooooh that's right

Oooooooh thats right

Let's take a breath, jump over the side

Oooooooh that's right

You know that darkness always turns into light

Oooooooh that's right

in my opinion it's about people being obsessed by money and greed living for superficial things.

It's a critique on society and the somewhat useless spiral of living that keeps getting back to the same point: making money' date=' working, making money, working. I totally agree with 'whoever', it's like the whole song has been pushing towards the outburst.[/quote']

Such a rush to do nothing at all

Such a fuss to do nothing at all

Such a rush to do nothing at all

Such a rush to get nowhere at all

Such a fuss to do nothing at all

Such a rush

And it's just like you said

It's just like you'll say

Such a rush to do nothing at all

Such a fuss to get nowhere at all

Such a rush, such a rush

And it's just like you said

It's just like you'll say

So slow down please

Just slow down

So slow down please

Just slow down

Such a rush (x 15)

Looking at a paper

Going after money

Far too many people

Looking for their money

Everybody's out there

Trying to get money

Why can't you just tell me?

Trying to get money rush

Such a rush

No rush

Such a rush

Such a rush (x 6)

Bigger Stronger' date=' as the new EP’s A-side served its purpose well. It earned Coldplay their first couple of plays on daytime Radio 1 and kept an expectant music press happy. Accusations of Radioheadism could only be partially denied since the track had been written and recorded one and a half years earlier in the influential aftermath of OK Computer but the band fielded these criticisms calmly, explaining to all who cared that the current live set actually bore very little resemblence to Oxford’s finest.[/quote']

Chris once said this song was written at a state of confusion and that' date=' really, it means nothing. It's obvious what the lyrics are saying but they mean nothing to Chris, the writer of such a great song.[/quote']

actually chris martin (lead singer) said it was just about a car. & he also admitted it to be a rip off of a song of radiohead. (don't believe me? check the ezine from the coldplay official site)

Guitar is great' date=' the vocals amazing. Rather than society or american society, I think this song is an individual's eternal desire for improvement, and hence lack of satisfaction in life.[/quote']

I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car,

To take me anywhere in seconds,

To take me anywhere I wanna go,

And drive around a faster car,

I will settle for nothing less,

I will settle for nothing less.

I wanna be big and strong and drive a faster car,

At the touch of a button,

I can go anywhere I wanna go,

And drive around my faster car,

I will settle for nothing less,

I will settle for nothing less.

I think I want to change my decision.

I think I want to change my decision.

I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car,

To take me anywhere in seconds,

To take me anywhere I wanna go,

And drive around my faster car,

I will settle for nothing less,

I will settle for nothing less.

I think I want to change my decision,

I think I want to change my decision.

"I was bathing my daughter and we were listening to I Am A Walrus' date=' and I thought, Oh, you don't have to go, verse-chorus-verse-chorus, so I went in the next day and chopped out about three minutes. Then we added the strings, and this bit on the end. And then it was good."[/quote']

The dreamy' date=' synth heavy song features the chorus, " You and me are floating on a tidal wave together/You and me are drifting into outer space ." Beatles style strings suddenly appear towards the end, and the anthemic singalong " woo-hoo-hoo " outro is set to become the sound of next summers festivals.[/quote']

i think this song is about contrasting feelings. The first part of the song that talks about diving into the deep end is about doubting a relationship and doubting yourself. The next part about floating on a tidal wave is about having complete confidence. It's about opposite feelings. And seeing as x and y are kind of like opposites- one goes vertical one goes horizontal- it makes sense. this is a really good song' date=' i love the strings at the end.[/quote']

Trying hard to speak

And fighting with my weak hand

Driven to distraction

It's all part of the plan

When something is broken

And you try to fix it

Trying to repair it

Any way you can

I dive in at the deep end

You become my best friend

I wanna love you but I don't know if I can

I know something is broken

and I'm trying to fix it

Trying to repair it anyway I can

Oooohh, oooohh

Oooohh, oooohh

You and me are floating on a tidal wave... together

You and me are drifting into outer space... and singing

Oooohh, oooohh

You and me are floating on a tidal wave... together

You and me are drifting into outer space

You and me are floating on a tidal wave... together

You and me are drifting into outer space... and singing

Oooohh, oooohh

"That's the only song that people have told us not to put on the album. But they're wrong. It's all about the lyrics' date=' and I'm proud of that song because it's angry and very dark and there's certain songs that I don't care what anyone says to us, we're going to do them anyway."[/quote']

Right when I heard this song I thought of it as telling the nature of the universe and civilization-- someone makes it' date=' someone messes it up. Civilizations are made and destroyed, invaded by others, tthen those who invaded are invaded. Like someone already said, it's about nature's cycle.[/quote']

Sunlight opened up my eyes

to see for the first time

it opened them up

And tonight rivers will run dry

and not for the first time

rivers will run

Hundreds of years in the future

there could be computers

looking for life on earth

Don't fight for the wrong side

say what you feel like

say how you feel

You'll go backwards

but then

you'll go forwards

again

You'll go backwards

but then

you'll go

Created... then drilled and invaded

If somebody made it

Someone will mess it up

And you are not wrong to

Ask who does this belong to

It belongs to all of us

You'll go backwards

but then

you'll go forwards

and then

you'll go backwards

again

you'll go forwards

You'll go backwards

but then

you'll go forwards

again

You'll go backwards

but then

you'll go forwards

Brothers & Sisters caught the attention of Radio 1’s Steve Lamacq and' date=' after what seemed at the time massive airplay, crashed into the national charts at No.92.[/quote']

it symbolises the bond between those who are equal' date=' and those who also deserve a good life.[/quote']

Brothers and sisters, brothers and sisters unite

It's the time of your lives, it's the time of your lives

Breakdown, breakdown

Got to spread love around, got to spread love around

Brothers and sisters feel fine

It's the time of your life, it's the time of your life

No sound, No sound

Like this feeling you found, like this feeling you found

Just stay down, cos sometimes you feel, so stay down

Sometimes you feel

And it's me they're looking for

And it's me I will never survive

But will be around so long

Brothers and sisters unite

Just stay down

And sometimes you feel

Just stay down

And sometimes you feel

And it's me they're looking for

And it's me , I will never survive

But will be round so long

This song captures the confusion we often face in the world around us. "Why things don't always turn out as you plan" - a question we all face. I think the answer lies in the line "but I love this life." We have to learn to love' date=' trust and embrace change even if we don't understand the reason behind it.[/quote']

how tides control the sea

and what becomes of me

how little things can slip out of your hands

how often people change

no two remain the same

why things dont always turn out as you plan

these are things that i dont understand

yea these are things that i dont understand

and i cant decide

wrong from right

oh my day from night

oh the dark from light

but i love this life

how infinite is space

and who decides your fate

why everything will dissolve into sand

how to avoid defeat

where truth and fiction meet

why nothing ever turns out as you plan

these are things that i dont understand

yea these are things that i dont understand

and i cant decide

wrong from right

oh my day from night

oh the dark from light

39. High Speed

highest rank from CirrusMinor (3)

High Speed"' date=' a tune which pushes the concept of ambient rock to the limits.[/quote']

this song is about a person being in love' date=' but theyre not exactly sure how they feel about it. the "bubble" represents the delicate relationship that could "burst" at any time. even despite uneasy feelings the relationship continues because of trust. much like you trust people not to hurt you by driving at high speeds, the subject trusts that his love wont hurt him[/quote']

I think the song is refering to war pilots, going deep into enemy territory in a 2 seater aircraft, probably for reconnaissance. The bubble is clearly the cockpit with its bubble like appearance.

On their lonely and dangerous journey, they repose their trust on each other and the speed of the 'thing' which is the aircraft.

Initially, they wonder at the task diffcult task at hand; that is flying the 'thing' at their best because it is the only way to avoid the 'ringing in their head' (could be an warning alarm that the pilot gets when under attack) or being hit itself.

Then later in the song ... they realise that they are helpless in stopping the 'thing' which could refer to the ongoing war itself.

Can anybody fly this thing?

Before my head explodes,

Before my head starts to ring

We've been living life inside a bubble,

We've been living life inside a bubble

Confidence in you,

Is confidence in me,

Is confidence in high speed

Can anybody stop this thing?

Before my head explodes,

Before my head starts to ring

We've been living life inside a bubble,

We've been living life inside a bubble

Confidence in you,

Is confidence in me,

Is confidence in high speed

In high speed

In high speed, you want,

High speed, you want,

High speed, you want

"It seemed too sunny' date=' but then the album's called X&Y, it's about contrasts, so when we started putting it together it seemed needed. It's very necessary now."[/quote']

A classic Coldplay love song about loss and heartbreak' date=' in which Chris sings, "The hardest part was letting go, not taking part."[/quote']

On 15 February 2006, Coldplay.com confirmed that "The Hardest Part" will be the fourth single. BBC Radio 1 reported that the single will be released on 3 April 2006.

The music video for "The Hardest Part" was shot on March 3, 2006 in St Petersburg, Florida at a yacht marina. A family member of a band member made cameo in the video.

To me it's letting go of someone who you love and you know it might be the best for you to let them go. You see the relationship crumble but you want them to know they left a sweet taste in your mouth and you aren't bitter or angry.

And the hardest part

Was letting go not taking part

Was the hardest part

And the strangest thing

was waiting for that bell to ring

It was the strangest start

I could feel it go down

It is sweet I could taste in my mouth

Silver lining the clouds

Oh and I

I wish that I could work it out

And the hardest part

Was letting go not taking part

You really broke my heart

And I tried to sing

But I couldn't think of anything

That was the hardest part

I could feel it go down

You left the sweetest taste in my mouth

Your silver lining the clouds

Oh and I

Oh and I

I wonder what it's all about

I wonder what it's all about

Everything I know is wrong

Everything I do just comes undone

And everything is torn apart

Oh and it's the hardest part

That's the hardest part

Yeah that's the hardest part

That's the hardest part
