I had to stop the clip at the middle of it. I couldn't watch it any longer. This happened to him for not showing his id? I can't imagine what would happen to me since I never carry my id around and I hate it when you have to be checked for anything..

Nothing, just like you wont get the Bird flu, or anthrax or killed by a terrorist or some rare disease or the secret police wont get you.....the odds of this happening to you are most likely less then getting struck by lightning.

I'm not sure if this was discussed before, but I read today that the student was Iranian-American.

I think that makes it all relevent.

It does a racist cop on a ego trip. Not the norm

PS Gareth, the cop broke alot of laws by doing what he did, so not common practice. He was not allowed to touch the guy in the first place that was illegal.

This is a issue of a cop being stupid, ive had cops violate the law and get me in trouble before, never anything nearly this bad but almost arrested.

Excuse me?

Do YOURSELF a huge favor and realize that a video of an actual event put onto a forum that I am simply watching and taking about is NOT propoganda.

There's no slant on this. This is not propoganda. Propoganda isn't anything that happens to be to the left of your moral compass.

I realize this, just like a realize cops have beat people before on camera or even shot people and have commited crimes.....

Its propaganda when they try to take a isolated problem that is VERY RARE and try to convince you its the norm and you're in danger....done with terrorism, SARS, the bird flu. That is the propaganda.

so this is all about propaganda, if you read what Gareth is saying.

This is the were all in danger when were not based on the fact it does not happen that much. the media does it, the government does it and the anti government people like Gareth do it, take a situation and spin it to make you look in danger over nothing

In my state there is an incident where someone such as a cop oversteps their rights and it's caught on film maybe twice every two months. Once is enough. And that's caught on film.

I don't need Gareth's "propoganda" to convince me that there are people with power who are absolute idiots. Believe me, I don't. I would rather see something like this, and discuss it, instead of living in a constant state of lobotomized apathy.

Yeah like i said not very often. If you consider the hundreds of millions of run in with the law each year by people just a few hundred of these cases happen, not very much considering 100's over millions.;)

This had nothing to do with politics or people in power but rogue cops breaking the law on ego trips.

Thats all im saying is dont believe Gareth's doom and gloom where he wants people to think this is normal and legal police work. Few hundred crimes done out of millions of police, that is a very low number.

^ Speaking about weak minded people....hmmm....that's a bit too "I am rubber and you are glue....blah, blah"...

Anyway...

Seems now I'm a celebrity! And I pray on the weak minded...ohhh....scary I am, watch out....I'm coming after YOU!!! Ohhh!!

Although, 'Celebrity' is awful...

And hey...errm...."MR COOL".....Oh, infact, I was going to say something here but you'd just mess about with the context to make some ill founded claim or somehow invent a new way of catorgrising it as propaganda.

You're an evil, evil person Gareth. Stop trying to eat my soul.

An dffernet version - from a proper news source.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/16/student.stunned.ap/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A UCLA police officer shocked a student with a stun gun at a campus library after he refused repeated requests to show student identification and wouldn't leave, police said.

The student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was shocked Tuesday at about 11 p.m. as police did a routine check of student IDs at the University of California, Los Angeles Powell Library computer lab.

"This is a long-standing library policy to ensure the safety of students during the late-night hours," said UCLA Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.

She said police tried to escort Tabatabainejad, 23, out of the library after he refused to provide identification. Tabatabainejad instead encouraged others at the library to join his resistance, and when a crowd began to gather, police used the stun gun on him, Greenstein said.

Tabatabainejad was arrested for resisting and obstructing a police officer and later released on his own recognizance. He declined to comment Wednesday night.

The incident was recorded on another student's camera phone and showed Tabatabainejad screaming while on the floor of the computer lab.

It was the third incident in a month in which police behavior in the city was criticized after amateur video surfaced. The other two involved the Los Angeles Police Department.

Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams promised an investigation.

"The safety of our campus community is of paramount importance to me," Abrams said in a statement.

Haha, why does this not suprise me. Why do you need to have CNN as a proper news source?? IF you don't trust one source in which you claim "you never saw what he was doing before that" why would you trust another?

And anyway...it's not justifying the disgusting disproportionate force used by the 'police'.

Also...this part "Tabatabainejad instead encouraged others at the library to join his resistance" does NOT mean they have you use the Tazer on him 5 times.

Also, you actually hear multiple people say "he was already leaving" on the video.

Now, I'm not saying that the CNN article is lying but it too misses alot of the details out.

So both the police and student were in the wrong. Guess he's not as innocent as Gareth wants us to believe.

The screams of the guy being tazered...

How can anyone after that stand up, even though the Police where shouting for him to do so. Sombody realy should of helped!

America is walking straight into a Fachist Police state.

Yes, of course it is, your absolutely right. The very fact that these officers thought they could do this sort of stuff in plain view of everyone and get away with it, is pretty scary.

Yeah, because out of tens of millions of cases there are 100 like this....:dozey:

And if you add the fact of everything the cop did was 100% illegal, it means this has nothing to do with fascim but rogue moron cops.

Well, actually that's not quite right....

That fact that we and everyone I have talked to have said that what that cop did was absolutely illegal, wrong and an abuse of power, is a good indicator that it should be illegal......

Unfourtunately, I say 'should' because more disturbingly, UCLA campus policy actually allows officers to use a Tazer on a passive resister.

This is outrageous on many levels.

Ah right, so the fact that its UCLA policy means that America is turning into a fascist state. Yea.

We've all agreed its wrong what they did, however you insist its proof of America being Fasicst, whereas other people think its just two over zealous cops going on an ego trip.

Well, actually that's not quite right....

I could have sworn security officers and such arent allowed to use force at all. I was told only police can touch you. I may be wrong on that, but if thats true and its illegal, someone needs to sue the shit out of UCLA.

I agree that it is outrageous but its not a national issue.

Yeah, I know, I was shocked to find out it's true. I was browsing the news channels on TV and I noticed the FOX News Channel were running a bit (only about 20-25 seconds) of the video we've all seen.

So, I thought I might as well see how Hannity & Colmes dealt with the story and heard Sean Hannity say "UCLA policy means that the guy was well within his rights to use the taser".

I watched the rest of the segment, it was rubbish though....too short and Hannity was basically talking over a guy they had as a guest.

But, anyway....I'm digressing.........I then had a look elsewhere and it appears the 50,000 volt electric Taser can be used on a Passive Resister by UCLA Campus Officers.
