Chris Martin Takes Over Radio 1 Airwaves In January

Some of music's biggest stars are to take over the controls at BBC Radio 1.

Musicians including Coldplay's Chris Martin, The Zutons and Kelly Osbourne will host an evening slot in January. Beeb bosses have enlisted the stars to help cover Zane Lowe's 7-9pm show while the DJ is on leave.

Ricky and Nick from the Kaiser Chiefs will kick-start the special series by fronting the radio programme on January 2. They will be followed on consecutive days by the Editors, the Young Knives, Mike Skinner from The Streets, and The Automatic. Snow Patrol will take control on January 10, followed by Kelly O, Jamie T, and The View. The final shows will belong to The Zutons and Chris Martin on January 17 and 18.

Radio 1 regular Nihal will be the co-host accompanying the celebs in the second and third week of January.

New Zealander Zane is known for playing fresh alternative tracks, including rock, punk and British hip hop, on his flagship show. Will Chris Martin, best known for lyrical ballads such as Yellow and Fix You, manage to follow suit?

hahaa, that sounds really cool, should be fun! :cheesy: :D

thanks for the info, ian =)

oo i hope it will be posted on here, i would love to hear it!

radio 1 streams on the web and they also have web cams in their studio so we can watch him

SO COOL! HEY Chris! I know tis songwriter who could use some airplay, lol!!;)

why only Chris?

this will surely help the ongoing view of coldplay as chris and only chris.

texasluvsjonny! your avi is nice....:laugh3:

and this is an awesome news. Thanks to Ian...

Hehe, I don't think I've ever heard coldplay on Zane Lowe's show, but still, this is nice. I think he'd be good, but I wish he was doing it with westwood, that would be about the funniest thing ever. Thanks for the news!

Do you think he'll get to chose his own playlist or will he have to use one of Zane's or Nihals or someone's?

Judging from these pictures, they must have been guests of the Zane Lowe show before ;)

I remember them giving an exclusive interview to Zane Lowe where they announced the album release date for X&Y (not the day when these pictures were taken) - a specail day for all of us :D

Hehe, I feel stupid now.

but I suppose what I said is still true, I haven't ever heard them being played on his show :wink2:

They won't show it on American internet :sad2: BBC won't share. God, why don't they just let people bloody register as paying customers so we can take advantage of what they offer? It's like the limiting Videos and CD's that have "Regions" and PAL or NTSC designations. :veryangry2:

dont worry, I'm sure some nice person will upload it! :0)

  • 3 weeks later...

Cool news, radio 1 are really plugging Zane's guest presenters at the moment.

This maybe a stupid question,

but do you think that the show will be obtainable threw iTunes podcasts, for those who dont live in the UK?

Oh you're certainly right about that, Coldplay is not the type of music played on his show, that's correct ;)

Will we know in advance if they plan to use any of our questions? Or will we just have to wait 'til the show airs?
