Heh.

Crap--why the heck did I vote no? :bigcry:

Only very very very easy songs, but most of the time I also screw that up :p

But with music class on school we're practicing with it :)

Easy songs like twinkle twinkle little star perhaps... ^^ I'm getting better though, the more I play. .

I do, i learnt to play the cello with a "suzuki program/method" so in the beginning we just played what we heard. But nowadays i don't play by ear that often anymore..just sometimes

That's good if you just learn it that way by ear ! :D

That's how I am. Reading a tab or sheet music gets me more confused than just listening and playing it by ear.

Well yeah i think i should thank my mum for putting me to that music school, haha, because now i both play by ear and read sheet music. I'm not like super good doing either of them though..but i could be worse

I do. I can read music but it's easier to learn by ear.

Cudos to Alyssa for actually starting a discussion thread!:D

Yeah, by ear 99% of the time. I only ever tend to read music when I'm dealing with classical scores or some other more random times.

I don't, I haven't got so far yet, but I don't think I have that musician ability. The only thing I can do by ear is to correct some little mistakes on non original sheets or to figure some variations on the songs live, you know chris uses to play songs not exactly the same ways, he adds some cool stuff

pretty much all of my stuff i learn by ear :nice:

i like it better than reading sheet music or tabs or anything.

only seriously easy songs :smug:

sigh I'm so annoying i have so many songs for piano yet every time i wanna finish one i get half way then get board of it and move on.

FUDGE MUFFINS i hate it and i also hate shit sheet music you know when your try'n learn a song with piano being the main instrument in it and the sheet music does something completely different ar not at ALL!!!!!! :wink3:

I can't play by ear. IMO, it's way too difficult.

People who play by ear, I admire you, really!

just some parts of a song with the piano, but not the whole song.

i was better when playing flaute, i managed to play few songs that we sang on our school choir with it.

i've quite always found the chord and the notes by ear and it helps you with the memory...........if i play the song reading by the sheet i'd always NEED it ....

Yeah, for piano only. I can't do things by ear on guitar.

Me too.

I do it alot to Chris's Live Piano playing, because the live versions on the piano sound good.

You bet I play by ear. I get my musical ear from my dad's side of the family. And in the past few years I've learned that I can find a harmony to most melodies with ease just like my grandma. Tabs are often a lazy way for me to make sure I'm playing things right but its fun to try by ear first. I've tought myself guitar and the basics of piano by ear so I'm sure I would progress faster with a music lesson or two.

Pretty much the same for me, but I don't know where I got my ear from, haha. My sister has a good ear too. :D My parents can't play instruments... :uhoh:

I can play most piano by ear. I can only play flute with the sheet music though.
