A Thread for the beautiful Lore

I got it off a stand up show by Dylan Moran who plays Bernard in Black Books. My brother is an avid fan and I heard him say it last night...it was kinda freaky...

You lost me on that reference - Aussie TV - I only know Paul Hogan! Anywhohow, it's a great line, that's for sure!!

I can believe it, though - we get our summers when the earth is the farthest from the sun; you get your summers when the earth is at its closest to ze' sun. Do you fry things on the sidewalks?? Probably a great place for a solar cooker - I made one once from an old satellite dish (covered with aluminum foil), and I used it to roast hot-dogs - worked like a charm!!

Anyhow, keep cool Emma! (Lore too!)

Fry things on side walk:laugh3: That made my day...

Speaking of solar cooker, I should make one.It has been about 40degrees C (110degrees F) lately. It would be of great use here !!

Hey, keep it cool too Chuck (thats your name right?)

It'll be autumn here in march

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: HaHaHaHa!! God, you're funny!! 3/4 of a mile? Wow, I suppose at that distance, aircraft have to be careful - heck, birds might get too close! Good one!!

Chile has it's fair share of deserts (some are the driest spots in the world), but a wetter coast. I have always imagined it like a super-scrunched coastal mountain land, where it goes from pleasant to harsh in about...3/4 of a mile!:laugh3:

Chile has the 5th largest desert by area in the world (Patagonian Desert) & also number 20 @ Atacama Desert.

Now, can someone tell me what's number 1?

#1 Guesses: Mongolia (Gobi)?? Africa (Serenghetti?)?? Australia (The Outback):)??

(Truthfully, half of North America looks parched enough to be the largest..) I'm going with Gobi, David, just because it sounds the strangest.

What about Death Valley? Now there's a place to avoid in summer!!:P

The Gobi desert is number 4

Number 1 is the Antarctic Desert :P

2 - Sahara

3 - Arabian Desert

That's not fair!:laugh3: Antarctica is covered with water, and as it melts, it'll just be ocean and islands!:P (I suppose, going by precipitation.. But where do you draw the line? To me, the only true deserts are places with spiny plants and tough critters; or drier!)

The Empty Quarter is big, that's true. Pardon - I meant Sahara - although the African plains seem like deserts to me as well...

OK smartypants:P, which is:

(a). the driest desert??

(b). the Hottest on record??

scorcherland

>>Thanks Emma! Holy Tamales! That's Hot Hot Hot!! Everything there should be running on solar!!!:sunny::thumbsup:

The hottest I would say was death valley, the driest i would say was Antarctica as the rain would freeze
