Face the facts fans, the band is going in the wrong direction. IMO all the fame and accolades they have received over the years have really gotten into their heads. Not one person can tell me they are the same band they were during A Rush of Blood to the Head era. I know bands, like people, change over time, but they have totally lost their edge, which is what gave them the label the "Greatest Band in the World". They have become a band that is very full of themselves and it showed during the recent X&Y era and it is coming to the forefront now. The entire X&Y album was done is a very lackadaisical manner. Not one person can tell me the album was even close to AROBTTH. For one the lyrics on the album are an absolute joke. Secondly, two of the songs came right off AROBTTH...the Speed of Sound is Clocks 2 and Square One is Politik 2. Coupled with the release of arguably the worst song on the album, The Hardest Part, along with a video that was a complete embarassment is a slap in the face at the fans instead of at the record industry as they wanted us to believe. Even the video to Talk video was embarassing. Now they are releasing an album that took them three years to release with only 42 minutes of music? We as fans should question the direction they are taking before its too late.

:(:(:(:(I have to agree with you too LOW76, i'm so ready to ditch COLDPLAY as my favourite band to listen to etc etc, i'm losing interest and this 4th album hype is ridiculous as well, well i meant lack of new album, how long does it take to write and produce an album , other artists seem to pump them out ok!!!!!!!!!!!!! suggestion to COLDPLAY get back in touch with the fans that made you guys!!!!!!!!!:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

I'll decide whether I agree with you or not after their next album. I think you're exaggerating a bit.

i agree with annie, but i'm realizing that coldplay are losing people, people don't feel the same for them now... :(

I agree a little, but I think low76 is exaggerating a bit.

Could any of you tell me you can do any better then them?

Could you handle being internationaly famous and photographed every living second?

Could any of you write and record up to 12 songs, and then tour for a year and a half?

Yes, they have changed, quite a bit, but they are still Coldplay, still the same four British lads with a gift for music, and a great sense of humour.

Coldplay haven't lost their fans, their fans are just getting bored.

i think that getting bored is even worst...

btw i agree with you Emma-Beatrice, first posted is exaggerating...

The length of the album doesn't matter. Did you ever stop to think that Parachutes is fourty one minuets long and it took almost as long to record? And what is their best album? Parachutes.

I agree that X&Y was a bad album. It paled horribly in comparison with their first two, but you have to look at the circumstances surrounding the recording of that album: the fact that they were sick of each other after their first major world tour together, that they didn't really know or expect all the critical acclaim and the fame, Phil Harvey was no longer with them, they changed producers, and they let the record exces in on the recording process when in the past they never let anyone in on their recordings. Not to mention that most of the songs were recorded in pieces and in several different studios. It was rushed and they were obviously grasping for straws.

Just stop and consider the changes they've made now: Brian Eno, Phil being back, their own recording space, their isolation in recording, the fact that they've done away with the boy-band all black uniform, (And despite the fact that you seem to believe that Coldplay made a fucking ridiculous video in order to embarass their own fans instead of giving a stubtel finger to EMI, that is still a big factor that leads me to believe that Coldplay tried the big band mold for awhile and decided against it with the unusual decision to release the worst song on the album [Chris even confessed this], not have a hard-copy release, and make a horrible video without any record label reps on the set) etc...

Have some faith people. Every band comes out with a shit record. If this next album is bad, then yes... it's probably time to lose faith, but goddamn, stop whining. The time it takes to record an album and how long it is does not determine if it'll be shit or not.

People also seem to forget that it took Radiohead almost four years to record an album that was only... guess what? FOURTY TWO MINUETS LONG.

Stop bitching people. Don't pass judgment until you hear this album. Then you can bitch (Or eat your words) all you want.

I know I'm getting bored...but Coldplay are still my fave band...

Ah this is like, some kind of inevitable plot line.

1. A band/artist releases an album (parachutes). It's a very good album that gives them recognition and it leads to an even bigger one. (rush of blood)

2. The second album is a smash. It gains them spectacular reviews and many new fans. Perhaps worldwide recognition...accolades. At this point, a few of the older fans will grow concerned that they've gone "mainstream" and think about abandoning them.

3. The third album is released (x & y) and criticized heavily. Compared to the very first album, and also the second...all the time. The fans will complain they've lost their sound, been tainted by fame...ect.

4. After this point its basically only downhill, and they will forever be compared to their early efforts. Slight possibility of a huge comback...it happens sometimes.

I can apply this to so many bands and artists. Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, of course Coldplay...so many and it always happens.

I don't think it's because it's always the case...I think that some fans can't understand an artist's need to evolve and not do the same thing all the time.

PS: wtf are you basing your assumption on? did you hear new music? No.

coldplay'll always be number one in my heart. they could never go the wrong direction for me. any way they go, i think that true fans'll still love them as much as i do.

may coldplay live forever! :]

I'm sorry, but on number 4 and your following paragraph i must make this note:

The difference is, Coldplay has talent. Lots of it. we really can't put them in the same category as michael jackson and mariah carey (ok she can sing).

Sure they're not perfect. And sure X&Y wasn't their best...but it was a heck of alot better than basically anything else released by anyone else at that time.

no reason to lose faith.

ok sorry its late and i probably should sleep now.

good points, but I don't think i will lose faith in Coldplay...even if the next album is disappointing...

along with the other comments about us fans getting bored...i somewhat agree...for a moment there, Muse was slowly creeping up to be my number one band...but somewhere in there, I knew Coldplay would always come first...this could come across as loyal or simply naive. in any case, this whole talk of Coldplay diasappointing has stirred up some nervous thoughts in me...i'm definitely getting more excited each day for this new album, but suddenly i'm also worried.

worried for Coldplay.

worried if i'll like the songs for what they are or simply because it's Coldplay.

lmao. this is pretty amusing. its not like x&y was complete shit or rubbish. it wasnt their best, you cant expect them to make 3 albums, with each successive one being that much better than its predecessors. x&y would have been a smash for any other band. lets just wait for this 4th album, it might be their best, it might not, but it sure beats the heck out of the rest of the music industry. we coldplay fans have such highstandards (thanks no less to coldplay themselves)

Four is the make it or break it for my love.

Yes I am excited for it to come out, but I feel like it will be disappointing.

I'm expecting Kraftwerk by Coldplay.

As do Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey....different genres yes, but they have immense talent. Ask Chris about MJ. :laugh3:

this is nearly exactly what i was going to say (besides the muse part). im terrified that if im not blown away by the next album (just like i wasnt with X&Y) then im going to start losing my love for coldplay, and i really am scared of that. i dont want to be one of those fans of any band that only likes their early stuff (like some people only like the early or later beatles stuff, etc etc). i want to love coldplay FOREVER, and i really dont want to have to like another album just because it's coldplay. i want another album that will knock my socks off, like AROBTTH did for me. that still sounds new everytime i listen to it. and while i dont really expect any album in the future of the world (even another by coldplay themselves) to usurp that album from my #1, i want something that comes close.

and being pessimistic like i usually am, i feel like im getting set up by all the comments like "this is the album youll remember us by" and chris has written two songs that "everybody needs to hear before they die" and embrace saying its "epic" etc etc.

i think perhaps no matter how hard they try (unless they really really surprise me), AROBTTH will be the album theyll forever be remembered by, i think "clocks" and "the scientist" are the songs everybody needs to hear before they die, and "epic" is promising, but to me that sounds a bit more...hard-core than i prefer coldplay to be. so im worried.

i think if i dont like it as music then im going to have to go to bed for a few days and not come out.

Why would anyone be scared not to like something? If you don't like it, you don't.

^ Yes but if I don't like it, I have no other bands to turn to...

Anyways, Album 4 is the make or break....

Oh, and just for all of you, take and hour and listen to X&Y all the way through, I haven't heard it for a while and listened to it the other night...

What the hell are you all complaining about? X&Y is fantastic!

(Though Coldplay were pretty stupid to put The Hardest Part on there)

lmao. this is pretty amusing. its not like x&y was complete shit or rubbish. it wasnt their best, you cant expect them to make 3 albums, with each successive one being that much better than its predecessors. x&y would have been a smash for any other band. lets just wait for this 4th album, it might be their best, it might not, but it sure beats the heck out of the rest of the music industry. we coldplay fans have such highstandards (thanks no less to coldplay themselves)

Well said.;)

Agreed, extremely well said!

X&Y is such a unique mix of songs, full of colour and meldies that scar you.

:thinking:hmmm....Parachutes; Raw Emotion AROBTTH; Pure Rock

X&Y; Vibrant Colour

:dozey:I'm tired

Maybe they're standing on the edge, maybe not. But I do think, that they know very well, what they're doing. And from the very beginning of Parachutes, I can see a story, which someone is trying to tell me, going through AROBTTH and X&Y. They are completely different, but from Parachutes to X&Y they've grown. And look, how many bands play music, which is on Par? A lot of. And on X&Y? I haven't heard anyone from new bands who can make a MUSIC like that.

My deduction? I'm sure, that they're trying to make they're own style, they don't know well, how should it be, but they're tired of having one label.

And I don't think, that their mentality also changes. They're still our boys. Or I hope so.

you said it right :)

about x&y i think it's really good, and i like the hardest part, the video was bad, but the song is beautiful imo. most of the songs in x&y are great. i think x&y is a mixture of the first two albums.

Chris should start again to write songs like "Gravity" and "Solid Ground".....

Quite right.

The album will take as long as it takes. Keep an eye on the prize. If it takes a couple years to produce a fantastically amazing album that will blow my mind, then that's something I'm willing to wait for.
