A question about fashion/General fashion stuff

Featured Replies

This might seem a very long-worded and pointless question about fashion, but as I don't really follow fashion or the day-to-day life's of so-called Celebrities, so I won't have any idea what's currently the latest items to wear to look "cool", but last week due to various christmas parties, ending up in several places, I have noticed that some humans of the female sex have been wearing what seems to me completely unsuitable for the current climate of coldness, and it's not just 1 or 2 girls wearing it in a single location, it's been around 10 girls at all 3 places (Andover, Portsmouth & Rugby) and a couple girls in the pub at lunchtime.

It's hard to explain, but it appears to be Lycra-like cycle-shorts, covered with a half-dress (only goes down to the waist-line) with a flap front and back of the dress which continues down to the knees. What seems unsuitable is that the front and rear of the legs are open to the air from the knee down and the sides are open to the air from whenever the cycle-like shorts end.

So is that a latest fashion craze? Or maybe someone famous wore it somewhere and all the girls want to look like their favourite celebrity? Or is it something random that the same 10 girls are following me all wearing the same style clothes :stunned:

mmm i don't know iof i understand what you said.. but if it is what i think..

here if you wear that... you're a very fashion person

hmmm... with H&M and similar stuff being popular, i don't wonder that they/we all wear the same clothes or are interested in the same style. but let's face it, there's almost no other choice .... (now you rarely see a hippie-style jeans in shops *g*) you can only buy those tunics and stripy pullovers etc.

but on the other hand - how do they stand being dressed like this in winter???

it's so cold and some people still insist on wearing light clothes that don't conver much. they'll be soooo sorry when they're old.

I found an image..

do you say something about this?

Yeah, leggings (of various lengths) have been back in for a couple of years now, along with many other retro 80's styles, and tunic dresses are supposedly the big thing this fall.

So I'm not surprised you're seeing a lot of people wearing that. I am surprised that they're wearing the cropped leggings in winter, when the full length ones would be fine. Of course it's also been a trend for a few years now to purposely wear light summery clothes in winter and just deal with it for the sake of fashion, so.... :\

Wouldn't catch me dead in them, myself... look like giant potato sacks on hourglass shapes. *grumble*

I am not worried about fashion all the tiome..

well sometimes but i don't have enough money or the right "figure" to wear the things that girls, siongers, models and actress usually wear..

and i hate fuseau's!!

but i love large t-shirts.. :)

Nope, the shorts don't come down that far, the average length was about half-way down between the top of the leg and the knee.

Something like this

but with the pink part as one-piece and nothing on the legs.

If i'm cold wearing jeans, 2 tee-shirts plus an Canadian fleece, what are those girls like.

^ Ok, I think I know what you mean... The girl on the Sarah Jane Adventures wears clothes like that all the time. I mainly associate it with younger kids, though... or maybe it's more specifically in Britain? Dunno. It really is the 80s all over again.

Although I can say from years wearing a knee-length kilt at a private school in the middle of winter, you do develop a strange sort of immunity to the cold after a while...

Maybe they have managed to develop their sensors not to feel the cold.

Me? I'm a tomboy trapped in an hourglass figure. I guess you could say I have a love/hate relationship with fashion. I hate it, but need to keep up with it if anything is ever going to fit me- which it usually doesn't. I like to look nice, but prefer jeans and a t-shirt most of the time.

So your not what people call a "classic" girl who wears skirts and dresses.

^ I think I'm the same as you when it comes to fashion, Erin.

This gives me an idea for a poll

hahahah sometimes i go to church in a jean skirt , t-shirt without sleeves and sandals..

well here is summer..

but i don't have an outfit to go to church..

sometimes i go with sneakers and my jogging set..

i'm not sure what you mean :\

but many girls here wear mini-skirts or shorts in winter.

I think leggings and skirts like Emma Beatrice posted, along with these:

have been the biggest thing for girls to wear here in the US for the past couple of years...but I've never seen girls with knee-length leggings. That's probably a very UK thing...

I've never seen people wearing the clothes that you described Dave but no doubt they will be soon. Most people here follow fads like they are sheep. There aren't many clothing stores in my town so all the young people shop at the same place and have the same clothes, which are mostly surf brand clothes like Billabong and Roxy. I don't buy clothes here anymore, I wait until I go to the city to do my shopping so I can find something different to what the rest of the teenagers have here. I guess though, like what Erin said earlier, if we don't follow the fashions nothing will fit. I try not to though. I like designing my own stuff too and making it. The 'in' fashions are hardly ever comfortable e.g skinny jeans.

^ i feel uncomfortable seeing guys in skinnys. it just doesn't seem right. there needs some kind of ventilation happening, though i refuse to let my mind wander any further on the topic :shifty:

that fashion style of skirt and leggings that go mid-way down the thigh is something i've never seen here in aus. the leggings here, at the absolutely shortest, are just below the knee. they were popular here during winter but the trend is slowly dying down. it's all about the dresses now. summer dresses since it's the season down under.

summer dresses are fuin. even i bought one this summer though i usually dont wear them..

It was actually all the rage when I was about 7. :stunned:

I think I used to wear something like that, except that the skirt was sewn right on to the leggings/shorts/whatever you call them.

The 80s. One decade that probably should never have come back.
