hello nathan, welcome aboard!

i've never bought any designer clothes, i just couldn't afford it. then again, i don't usually go to the cheapest places either. i bought a bag in primark the other day and it broke after two weeks.

So you would pay £20 extra just to have a little logo on the top?

that's not what I said at all

I said the 'designer' clothes are generally nicer, because they have a good designer designing them

I'm not about logos at all

in fact all of the 'designer' clothes I buy don't really show the brand

they make those items for people who like to show off

I see

Thanks for putting me right.

It's the same with Abercrombie and Hollister and American Eagle here. They are not designer, but they have logos plastered all over their clothes for people to wear and show off. It's all around.

Hey Sally

I hate Primark, it smells...I wasn't being immature there, it genuinely doesn't smell very nice

What is Primark? It's UK-based, right?

It's an Irish based clothing country whose main business is within the UK, with some stores in Spain.

Primark is known for selling clothes at the budget end of the market. The company's success is based on sourcing supply cheaply, making clothes with simple designs and fabrics, only making them in the most popular sizes, buying stock in huge bulks and varieties but most importantly Primark do not advertise their products.

Random fact is that it's owned by Associated British Foods, and the nearest store from here is Southampton

Sounds like Costco but with clothes! :D

Not really clothes-related, but I love Costco. I get books there for cheap (because they buy it in bulk) and there are free samples on weekends! :P There are clothes too at Costco, but it's not their own brand, I don't think. They sell various brands.

Yeah..honestly, designer clothes to me aren't great just because they're some big name or whatever, but because they're good quality and they look nice. Not a single piece of designer clothing either my mom or I own has a logo or designer name written on it ...that's just so corny and just as was said above, 'for people who like to show off'.

It's also only worth it if it's a classic piece of clothing that you will wear for years. Spending fortunes for a 'fad' is absolutely ridiculous and a waste of money, money of which could go elsewhere for better use.

Yeah, also true, like a designer dress is something you can wear forever and ever.

Designer stuff is nice, but I'm more of a thrifter. I like wearing nice vintage pieces. I wear my mom's old stuff sometimes.

designer stuff is big around here. most of my friends only will wear clothes if theyre like lacoste or ralph lauren or juicy coture or north face or whatever, with american eagle and abercrombie being the absolute bottom of the range of stuff theyd even consider putting on their bodies. it's disgusting. its just the culture around here--showing off just how much money you have with your clothes and your bags and your cars and your houses. i'm so sick of it i could scream.

bags are the big deal: luis vuitton and chanel and all that crap. i have two coach bags (which are considered low-range) which i bought because i liked and they were functional, not because they were coach.

i hate all the importance people put on labels! i wear clothes from target and i'm fine with that, but thats just something you DON'T DO. uggh.

my school had a really strict dress code, which made it worse because everyone just wore these outrageously expensive polo shirts and pants. i'm so glad i'm going to college where i can wear sweatpants from gap to class and there will be a wider range of cultures so less people will care!

Target is seriously underrated. I could literally live in there.

I don't like Juicy clothes...they seem to be so tacky for some reason. Why people pay so much for it I don't know.

:( I wear Juicy. It's impossible to find winter boots that are cruelty free but Juicy's got them :nice: They also have amazing dresses and blouses and my winter jacket is from there as well.

All my schools had a strict dress code (as in you could only wear grey/black trousers, white shirts & jumpers which had the school's logo on and cost 40-odd quid), therefore everybody was the same.

Meh. I can get the same stuff at Forever 21 for much cheaper.

i spend HOURS in target! a person could literally live in there because they have everything you possibly could want to survive. i love that place.

juicy...i dont know, its just not my style. and i hate overpriced things if only because theyre overpriced. but cruelty-free is always good; i didnt know they did that.

my mom works for ann taylor, so i used to wear a lot of that stuff to school because we get a big discount and it was stuff i was allowed to wear to school. talk about overpriced

My mom goes bargain hunting at Ann Taylor. She lets me borrow the cardigans, haha. Not that I don't have enough already. :P

Ooh, fanclubby...

:stunned:

Oooh....fashionable.

Uh... no.

Not when I was there at least. (They changed the uniforms since then, thank goodness.)

We all used to have to wear this really cheap blue polyester- guys pants and girls kilts. It was nasty. Once, when my mom tried to iron the pleats on mine they melted. Seriously. The guys in my class used to slide down the hallways on their knees after they figured out that the friction would make the knees of their pants start to melt and get all shiny. When we graduated, some of the girls burned one of the kilts they were so glad to be rid of the horrid things. The flames were bright green.

Not to mention they didn't fit unless you were built like a popsicle stick. For it to fit around my hips, it was huge in the waist, and the waistband would ride up around my ribcage every time I tried to sit down. Oh, and the sweaters used to be this eye wrenching bright red.

Sorry for the rant. It's not something I have pleasant memories of. :laugh3:

i was so sick of trying to find in-dress-code clothes that at times i wished for a uniform. a NICE one, though. kilts would be waaaay out of the question :P but a nicer type skirt would be ok...but then i'd just end up hating that.

i'm quite thrilled to be able to wear whatever the hell i want all the time. some days ill get dressed up, others i'll go to class in PJs :P

Uh... no.

((I was kidding))

But that doesn't sound fun ... that's really funny about the pants melting!!
