Yay, let's hunt hobbits and throw them into mount Doom! :awesome:

Actually, I might go back in two years or so.

Yeah, well, it's only at the other side of the world basically in the middle of nowhere. You should save for a ticket and then go work in NZ for atrocious wages. :nice:

Look, this might be one of the silliest things I encountered in NZ:

Elijah Wood will be in ‘The Hobbit’ (and we know how!)

January 7th, 2011 by MrCere | Discuss | View Comments

EXCLUSIVE – Deadline hinted first but TheOneRing.net can confirm that Elijah Wood will step in front of Peter Jackson’s cameras and return to Middle-earth for a part in ‘The Hobbit,’ — and we even know how. Despite how some fans will respond at first, the reasons are organic and natural and might not upset some of the most ardent purists.

***MAJOR HOBBIT MOVIE SPOILERS AFTER THE BREAK***

As readers of “The Hobbit” know, the tale of “The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit or There and Back Again,” are contained in the fictional “Red Book of Westmarch.” In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the book is shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch — hence the book’s title.)

The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers are to learn the tale of ‘The Hobbit’ as a familiar Frodo gets the tale as well.

Since the speculation is now everywhere around the interwebs, TORn can confirm that as of now, the plans are to feature Frodo in the opening sequence of the films. It is unlikely that studio Warner Bros. or Team Jackson would change the script at this point in response to the web buzz so we may have just “spoiled” December 2012 for some, but we warned you. (And, sat on the spoiler until leaks started to appear!)

Rumors have suggested Wood is “in talks” to appear in the film but that isn’t an issue as it very likely the role was discussed with the actor at the scripting phase of the films and he was agreeable to reprise his part then. It is likely but less certain that the same can be said of Orlando Bloom who is rumored (and TORn cannot currently lock-down confirm) to be playing his LOTR Elf character Legolas.

The status of other actors’ whose characters would have been living during the plot line of the Hobbit, are varied. Cate Blanchett is confirmed as Galadriel while Hugo Weaving’s Elrond is a prominently featured character in the source material but not confirmed. Liv Tyler’s Arwen could logically be present as could other ancient Elves like Marton Csokas’ Celeborn.

Frodo’s return makes it possible that Sean Astin could appear as Sam and other Hobbits such as Merry or Pippin can not be ruled out. TORn’s information indicates however, that Frodo and the young Bilbo are the primary Hobbit connections between the film series.

Dwarves will play a prominent role of course in the new films, and LOTR character Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) is the son Gloin, one of one of Bilbo’s companions for the journey of the titular Hobbit. Readers can view our Hobbit cast page to see the status and information on all known characters from the film.

Two very obvious absences from any press releases so far are signings of Ian McKellan as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Both actors are believed to be in negotiations and the studio and actors have elected not to conduct talks through the press. Fans including those on TheOneRing.net message boards, are worried about the actors’ signings. As always, hit us with news at [email protected] or hit up the author.

Peter Jackson gives fans a tour behind-the-scenes on the set of the new Hobbit movie

Fans of The Hobbit got a special treat when director Sir Peter Jackson posted a 10-minute behind-the-scenes tour of the new film's set.

The video gives viewers a preview of the costumes, props and special effects from the upcoming film, including familiar rebuilt sets of Bag End and Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings.

We also see actors being marked for the film's incredible stop-motion animation and get a sneak peek at some of the action we can expect.

After several hitches, the film's dedicated legions of fans will be pleased to see that work on the £315million movie is finally well underway.

In September last year filming was halted after the International Federation of Actors issued a Do Not Work order, advising members of its member unions (including the Screen Actors Guild) that 'The producers...have refused to engage performers on union-negotiated agreements'.

This meant actors who worked on the film would be ejected from the union.

Due to the crisis Peter Jackson considered taking the production elsewhere, however after a meeting with the government - the problems were overcome and, in October, it was announced that production would continue in New Zealand.

The Hobbit, a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, will be a two-part adaptation of the J. R. R. Tolkien story starring Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, and Cate Blanchett.

It follows the story of Bilbo Baggins (played by Office star Martin Freeman), a Hobbit, who journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.

In his video blog, Jackson, 53, addresses fans, sits in meetings, blocks a sequence with dwarves, and walks through goblin tunnels where Bilbo first encounters Gollum (played by Andy Serkis).

The first installment of The Hobbit is scheduled for a December 19, 2012 release, with the second part due out the following year.

Jackson's video hit the internet on the same day he announced that the highly-anticipated prequel will be shot in 3D at 48 frames per second, twice as fast as the industry standard of 24.

The move breaks with nine decades of cinema tradition.

Sir Peter likens the moment to digital CDs supplanting vinyl records, claiming the technology will produce 'hugely enhanced clarity and smoothness' and more lifelike images.

Announcing the decision on his Facebook page, he said: 'Looking at 24 frames every second may seem okay, and we've all seen thousands of films like this over the last 90 years.

'But there is often quite a lot of blur in each frame, during fast movements, and if the camera is moving around quickly the image can judder.'

article-0-0BA2568B00000578-471_468x286.jpg Chairman: Video shows the hilarious difference in sizes of the chairs belonging to the film's lead characters

The Oscar-winning director claims that the technique will enable audiences to comfortably watch two hours of 3D footage without getting eyestrain.

He said Warner Bros production studio supports the move, amid predictions that 10,000 cinema screens will be capable of showing the new format by the film's release date of December 2012.

Jackson explained: 'We are hopeful that there will be enough theatres capable of projecting 48fps by the time The Hobbit comes out, where we can seriously explore that possibility with Warner Bros.'

article-0-0BA2567F00000578-497_468x286.jpg Rehearsals: Jackson lets us in to a scene involving tribal warriors

Most modern digital projectors could be adapted to the task if their servers are given software upgrades.

An industry-wide move to the higher speed also has a strong advocate in James Cameron, who directed the 2009 science fiction epic Avatar in 3D.

Cameron has said he is planning to shoot the sequel Avatar 2 at 48 frames per second.

But the development is likely to upset film purists, who Sir Peter says will criticise 'lack of blur and strobing' - what one industry commentator has likened to art historians lamenting the loss of grainy, characterful darkness when an Old Master canvas is cleaned.

He said: 'There's no doubt in my mind that we're heading towards movies being shot and projected at higher frame rates.

'It looks great, and we've actually become used to it now, to the point that other film experiences look a little primitive.'
