LP4/Prospekt HMV Online Presale

Hi all,

Haven't posted on this forum yet despite signing up probably more than a year ago! I thought I'd get myself on pre-order emailers from certain online retailers for the new album and got a message from HMV today. It goes as follows...

-----------------------

Hi,

You asked us to let you know when Coldplay : Prospekt was ready to pre-order.

Good news!

Coldplay : Prospekt has just been added to our catalogue, so you can be the first to get your order in now.

Coldplay : Prospekt

CD £8.99 Free Delivery

Release date: 16-6-2008

Number of Discs: 1

Catalogue Number: PRERELCD

Label: PARLOPHONE

----------------------

I'm a little hesistant to totally trust the accuracy of this info, particularly as we've been told it won't be called Prospekt and they haven't got a proper catalogue number at the mo. However this is a different release date than we've heard before (June rather than May) and seeing as it's Coldplay I wouldn't be surprised by them pushing the release date back a month! Anyway - I thought I'd share with you all!

Discuss away!

I honestly don't believe it. I was hoping they'd be wrong! :) For the tracklisting they don't have ANY of the newer song titles. AND they have Prospekt's March as a song. There was some dispute over that title. I'm waiting for the official word from the guys THEMSELVES!

This is crazy. it's beyond 'we'll keep em wanting more!' There has to be something wrong. The album is done, the artwork is done like a month ago. What's going on!!!!!

blargh. well, the longer the boys themselves don't talk, the farther the "release date" will be pushed back. like everyone else has said, i don't 100% believe it because it's not an official source, but given the time span between then and now, it sounds like good speculation. besides, were the sources that said may 19 actual catalogue entries, or just dates tacked next to the album on various websites? if they're saying its an actual catalogue entry, then it might hold some worth. this is why a big band could never do a silence release (not that i think coldplay's trying to do that, but it sure as hell sounds like it! :P): once the album name shows up on the shop catalogues and shipping lists etc, someone will squeal and the world will know. it's just beginning to frustrate me that we've been getting a lot of the biggest info from OUTSIDE sources recently: the RS article and now an HMV email!

They HAVE to see that people are getting impatient and that we're getting more information from other unofficial sources!

ARGH. I'M ON VACATION ON JUNE 16 (june 17 is when it would be released in america) IN THE MOST SECLUDED AND UNCOMMERCIAL TOWN EVER.

all i have to say is that if this is true, iTunes BETTER have LP4 available for download at the STROKE of midnight so i can download it. otherwise i'm hijacking my parents car and driving 20 miles to the nearest place where they sell CDs.

...does itunes usually have stuff available for download like around midnight on the day it's released? i know i'm probably counting my chickens way early, but if this is actually the release date, i want to be prepared.

yeah, itunes is a big company that has customer satisfaction in mind. i've never pre-ordered from itunes before, but i'll TOTALLY do it for LP4, and i guess it'll be available SOMETIME that day for download, so i shouldnt complain too too much. apple's pretty on top of their game.

besides, i was planning to download it AND buy the CD anyway, (well, i was going to download it if the download was available at midnight or sometime that night before i could get to the store), but it's just comical that i'll be AWAY during this time if this is actually the release date. and frankly, i think this date sounds very plausible until they tell us otherwise. i'm going with 16/17 june, i guess, and will be SUPER pleasantly surprised if they tell us officially that it will be out in may like we were all hoping. like i've said before, i can wait a pretty long time as long as i know WHEN i'm waiting for. the guessing makes it seem like the anticipation will go on FOREVER, and i can't deal with that.

itunes does start an automatic download at 12:01. I pre-ordered the latest Interpol album and when I checked my itunes at like 5am it was there. what's also good is that more than likely when you pre-order the album you'll get one of the tracks free before it comes out!

Gah. I really hope this is wrong. Just cos I don't wanna wait that long. May was fine..June seems like such a long way away. But then again, there is the first single and wern't they saying they might release 'Violet Hill' as a promo??

*checks article* ..In fact, they said "in coming weeks"....oooh. Interesting.

Well, the anticipated date is probably going to change several times unless something is announced soon, but in the meantime did I call it, or did I call it? :D

I picked that date for a reason, which is why I'm inclined to believe the rumors, even if that's all they are. The time frame Prospekt gave would have the album being finished around the beginning of March. Chris always takes longer than he says he will, so add a couple of weeks to that for final mixing and mastering. Various Radiohead guys have several times recently that under the old system, which is probably still in place for Coldplay's release being as big a deal as it is, EMI always takes a minimum of 3 months for marketing and promotion from the time an album is completely finished to the release date. (Longer if they want to wait for a gap in the release schedule, but I think Coldplay is a dominant enough force in the market that they wouldn't bother)

So, March 1st, plus about 2 weeks runover time, plus 3 months brings us to the week of July 16th.

Why pay to download it from iTunes AND pay to buy the actual CD?

a) because i like buying CDs better than downloading, but if downloading is the fastest way to get it to me, then i'll do that and then buy the physical CD when i can. i just like CDs, i like having a tangible piece of something. actually, i like vinyl better, but it's harder to find and we have no idea when that comes out. i'll buy the CD in the meantime.

b) because i support coldplay. if it was a band i only just "liked" or could wait a bit to hear the CD, then i wouldn't buy the same thing twice. but i love coldplay more than any other band and am totally willing to give them the money. besides, i know that they're not just going to get drunk or high or buy prostitutes or lavish cars with the money. yes, they live comfortably, but they're down-to-earth about it, and i really respect them as artists and people.

then again, if i can get the CD in a shop faster than i can get it downloaded to my computer, then i won't bother to download. but i anticipate that the download will get to me faster, and because it's coldplay and i love them, i have no qualms about giving them the money :D

now if it really IS june 16, i must work on getting an internet connection at my summer house, which could prove interesting...i may have to old-skool it with dial-up, but if it gets me LP4 then it gets me LP4.

i COMPLETELY agree. i don't know why coldplay is ok with us learning practically EVERYTHING about the new album from outside sources. It's not as fun for us or for them. it's getting really annoiyng. and i checked amazon and they still have the may 19 date listed. this june date is just more rumors.

*whew* i found an FYE music store 21 miles from my beach house. that may sound far away, but my mom and i always go shopping at that shopping center when we're there, so i know where it is and can get there easily. so i suppose i'm set if i can't get internet access on june 16! that's still plan A, though. much easier, and doesn't involve wasting an hour in the car on a summer's morning, even though it IS for the best cause in the world. i'll pay for the gas!

Yay, good news! 56 miles in that situation doesn't seem all that far. Its crazy though how far we're prepared to go to get our hands on this damn album. I'm not all that keen on walking anywhere (public transport ftw) but I would totally walk all the way down to the zavvi (previously Virgin Megastore) in Canterbury town centre to get this album, and there and back from the uni would probably take a couple of hours. OK not all that hard, but its still a long way for me :laugh1:

Tut tut, I'm far to lazy

PS: I really really like your blog chelsea! That top ten albums was a very good read :nice:

i actually learned it's about 21 miles, which is much better! my mom balked at burning all that gas for a damn CD, but hell, i'll pay for it for coldplay! (and if it was pearl jam releasing an album while we were on vacation, she'd SO do the same thing!)

i think i'm a bit mentally sick if i'm making a point to travel 20 miles to a store and 20 miles back at 9AM in the morning, but hey, this is important to me! still hoping to find wifi somewhere on the island though!

 aww, thanks about the blog! i just posted the link here for the hell of it and i don't find it exactly up to snuff, but i'm glad someone's enjoying it!

EDIT: i've just noticed that every sentence in this post ends with an exclamation mark! how annoying! :laugh1:
