PRISON.

Featured Replies

Have any of you ever been to prison?

Or jail/gaol?

The system is different in different places, in the US, if some of you people not from here do not know, jail and prison are different.

None of the above.

same here

um, the fact that we all seem to be between the ages of 12 and 23 (with exceptions) makes me think that the answer will be a resounding NO.

but i once took a fieldtrip to a jail with my kindergarten. it gave me nightmares.

and i'm currently reading a book about the soviet gulag system. which also made me have a dream about a labor camp last week.

Well, some people get drunk and end up spending the night in jail. Particularly those between the ages of 12 and 23. :P

true. i can think of some dumb people i know that have done that. who knows, we'll probably get at least one interesting story on here.

i was once called to the dean's office for a discussion about why i skipped school (for a coldplay concert). does that count?

I spent a night in a Police Cell in my last trip to Manchester !!

But I have never been inside !

what's the difference between jail and prison?

and no, i've never been there.

i don't actually know the difference between the two, but my guess always has been that jail is like a cell that you go into for a night after you've been arrested for being drunk or whatever, and prison is somewhere that you go for a very long time after murdering someone or committing tax fraud or something. i could be completely wrong.

care to enlighten us, emily?

Perhaps it's this ... I have no clue, as both prison and jail are translated in one Slovene word. ;)

But ... is Ren really there? :uhoh: wtf?!

I'm there right now. Ren says hi!

oh cool. Tell him that i'll send him a cake full of suprises too.

Have you received your cake yet ?

Yessh, he's been such a bad boy :whip:

I have visited a prison on a school trip, but has never had to spend time under Her Majesty's pleasure

I'm from the states and I never knew there was a difference between jail and prison. I've always known jail, the joint, big house etc. to be slang terms for prison... Unless someone cares to enlighten me.

And no, I've never been to prison, not even on a field trip.

I think the difference is the way they are owned, Prisons are owned by the state where Jails are owned by local councils/police forces

Yessh' date=' he's been such a bad boy :whip:[/size']

Bad bad Ren. He'll be blue when he comes out, eh?

Pretty much, yeah. Jails are more county things, used to house people awaiting trial (for trivial stuff, I suppose) or sentenced to stay there for short periods of time.

We both enjoyed the surprise in the middle of the cake.

Jails are county, or municipal places for detention. States have prisons, and the Federal Government has it's prison system.. The "big house" is prison; the "joint" or "slammer" can be either, I think..

I did spend some time in jail once many moons ago.. it was in the "Huber Law" section - work release program. OOO, the pillows were so hard, you had to ball up your shirts just to get something comfortable to sleep on at night!:laugh3:

That sounds sucky. I suppose there's a reason to stay out of jail.

But I'm surprised that you're the one, out of all the people here, who has been to jail. I would've thought it had been someone else.

Not that it really matters all that much.

:policeman::biker::pirate::bandana::bobby:

Well, you just can never tell, can you?!:laugh3:

indeed. i know someone who has been to prison and he is such a kind person. certain situations make people do things they wouldn't usually do.
