The Official "Famous Old Painters" Thread

Featured Replies

This thread is probably the first ever completely dedicated to a song that might never be released. I just want to know other people's opinions on this potential song. Personally, when I first heard of it, it immediately became the song I was most looking forward to hearing. Prospekt once said they were recording it with big band instruments and that it had a Spanish theme to it. I just someday want to be able to hear it cuz it was hyped up for a while.

That's a good theory. Hopefully it will come out in interviews if you're right.

I love the title, if that's what you mean. It always struck me as a classic 'Coldplayesque' name.

or maybe it will releases same like anothers no traklist album, in some single maybe...

The title change was my theory! :smug:

Yea i hope we hear this song somewhere.I really wanted to hear that brass band they used for the third verse of the song.I love the title too!

I think it's Viva la Vida now, at least I hope it is! I want to hear it!

Either that, or VLV will end up sounding exactly as FOP was described, with horns and the words "Famous Old Painters" sung somewhere, and then FOP will be announced as a b-side for the 3rd or 4th single making us all explode for varying reasons.

It should be noted: the phrases "viva la vida" and "famous old painters" each have the same number of syllables. So maybe they're parallels to the same chorus melody.

i was pretty sure they changed it to famous new painters

i wouldn't be surprised if it is the same song with a different name. didn't we hear somewhere that someone was pissed off that they had to change the artwork due to tracklisting changes? maybe that was what changed...

on the other hand, didn't we establish that we could see 'viva la vida' on that first list of possible songs for LP4 - which i believe was released before they announced 'famous old painters' - which was scribbled out (suggesting that it was always the title)?

I wonder if there's a chance they'll sing it on the new tour?

Like they did with Moses? That would be frickin awesome!!!!!!

i feel like this song title could have come up when they were painting stuff for the viva la vida tracks and chris just got a crazy idea and went over to the piano and most likely came up with something brilliant

It was a huge surprise when the old site gave us a new website desing with the words "famous new painters" written across the header, and then the song isn't even on the album. Where did it go? Maybe Eno "accidentally" erased it (the way he almost "accidentally" erased "where the streets have no name").
