April 28, 200818 yr True Jacek, it could be taken to mean some negative things... that's the way all political things are I guess. For some reason imagining Coldplay releasing a Nazi-themed album is sort of funny to me, though, lol. Maybe they'd go on tour with fake Hitler mustaches. It could be like The Producers and be a huge sell-out hit. just to remind you their current new site colours are: red, white, black those colours are used by both Anarchy and Nazi ideology / movement
April 28, 200818 yr Can't we all just smile, shake hands, and be ecstatic about new Coldplay? Not this time, friendo! Prepare for an intellectual beatdown that will push you to the limits of scholarly research! those colours are the same as Anarchy and the same as Nazi. Nazism is the complete opposite of anarchism...
April 28, 200818 yr nazi-themed album would be horrible, but this theme is not much better (maybe not so obviously for most people but technicaly french revolutionists, bolsevists and nazists acted the same: "who isn't with us is against us and must die" sth like that, so they where raady finaly kill themselves - countryman's - for a "greater good")
April 28, 200818 yr the guy on the left with the rifle looks like Guy. So, is Will the kid with the pistols?
April 28, 200818 yr nazi-themed album would be horrible, but this theme is not much better (maybe not so obviously for most people but...) Oh I can completely understand what you mean... I would never support something like the French Revolution today. I'm a red-blooded American capitalist (libertarian, actually), so I'm not a Nazi or Anarchist, either. I think we should just view this as a symbol of excitement and change, nothing more. Something makes me wonder if Coldplay and Brian Eno knew this would produce some controversy when they picked it... it is a good marketing strategy.
April 28, 200818 yr Nazism is the complete opposite of anarchism... i don't agree with it.. anarchy claims there's no bosses and so that people live in total freedom, without rules (at least not writen ones and as stricts as laws), it suppouse that everyone is responsable of their acts as they believe we all are equals. nazi= national socialism. nazi movement (which i believe is very close to communism) wanted that we all were equals, (forcing people to do so) so in their 'right' to do so, they socialized people to be all equals... and they kept the idea of 'patriotism'.(national) anyways in politics more than other things, extrems meets too often and movements ends being represented by a person, so the ideal of the movement itself get lost very soon. so once more, i think the new album means that, you can follow and idea, but it will change one day. viva la vida (follow the idea), death and all his friend (they idea after you realise it has changed).
April 28, 200818 yr i don't agree with it.. so once more, i think the new album means that, you can follow and idea, but it will change one day. viva la vida (follow the idea), death and all his friend (they idea after you realise it has changed). this is interesting :) some idea (like viva la vida) sometimes leads to death ahd all his friends (so i tnihk that a combination of full title and the painting would be more intelligible) we should just view this as a symbol of excitement and change, nothing more i agree with that - that imo was the intention of the band / artwork author.
April 28, 200818 yr Not a big fan, but then again when I first saw the X&Y art I thought "wow this really sucks!" but then I discovered the fun you could have with the code and I love it now.
April 28, 200818 yr the X&Y was a greate idea :) and of course tomorrow about 12:15 am there definitely will be no reason for argue about the artwork :D :D
April 28, 200818 yr I think the artwork will have to grow on me, but its an interesting choice though, just not my favorite.
April 28, 200818 yr i'm kind of really surprised that i LOVE it. originally when the rumor was out that it would be that painting, i said "oh NO, please no!" becuase it looked so un-coldplay, but i have to say that the addition of the messy "viva la vida" makes all the difference in the world, and i loove it. 4/5 stars for me.
April 28, 200818 yr I adore the artwork. It's bold, classical and also a huge departure from the very graphic style of the last couple of albums. It's such a striking image.

The argument is sort of similar to describing how musicians make beautiful music - they are "freer" to do it than someone who has never taken the time and effort (read: discipline) to learn an instrument. Benjamin Franklin once wrote that anyone who would give up liberty for safety deserves neither liberty nor safety. I think I agree with him, so I lean anarchist (although I'm not sure humanity is at a point where we can disband governments yet - but it might happen in the next 500 years). It is an interesting discussion!
April 28, 200818 yr it's just kind of funny for me because back in high school, i had to read a book about the french revolution for a project, and this painting was on the cover, so it's kind of weirding me out that this is going to be my new favorite ALBUM! it's very different than their other album covers, but i still like it a lot. even though X&Y will always be my favorite cover, i think.
April 28, 200818 yr it's ok i guess.. Im not a fan of that painting but oh well. I would have liked more if they had used those red and black stripes on their site as the cover. I do like that they chose to keep only "viva la vida"!
April 28, 200818 yr I think that the artwork is really good:D.. IMO they want to tell us that there will be a new musical revolution or something like that and nothing connected to politics..

It is an interesting discussion! i agree with you totally ;) both for the political discussion and also with the musicians. you are totally right. Indeed an interesting discussion, but we are going off-topic :uhoh:
April 28, 200818 yr dead guy looks like jonny. gun man looks like guy. pistol kid looks like chris. the boob looks like will. :laugh3:
April 28, 200818 yr Hi for the painting, the Title in French is "La Liberté guidant le peuple" it's a 1830 Delacroix, it can be seen at the Louvre Museum in Paris, it was also displayed on the 100 Fr banknotes and some postal stamps
