Coldplay:"Arcade Fire Shaped Our New Album"

Featured Replies

Arcade Fire >> Coldplay in my mind. :P

But it will be interesting to see if there is in fact any evidence of Arcade Fire influence on the new album.

To do that they'll need to write some darker songs, and also incorporate many more instruments.

If I wanted to hear Arcade Fire, I'd buy an Arcade Fire record. No fanks, Coldplay.

what i've heard of them i haven't liked to be honest

They sound like the crackling hot fire of a thousand pinball machines all ablaze!:P

To me they have elements of Coldplay and The Killers about them, but they are darker, more atmospheric, and grittier than either of those bands. They also seem to be more experimental and diverse. Their second album is better than their first, if not slightly more accessible. The song No Cars Go is probably the closest they've got to sounding 'mainstream'. Its like a more epic and interesting version of Talk... you should start with that if you want to try to get into them.

My random Arcade Fire thoughts of the day.

Really? I've always liked Funeral (their first album) over Neon Bible... but that's just me I suppose. Otherwise, I pretty much agree with your sentiments.

Arcade Fire is a band that grows on you. They are a band renowned for their incredible live performances (they even won an award because of it last year). If at first you don't like them, I urge you to not give up. Their music is pretty different from what I was used to when I first picked up Funeral (I never really listened to any indie music before then). However, some patience with the album was one of the best musically-inclined decisions I've ever made. :)

Those who like Arcade Fire, LOVE Arcade Fire. I think it's fair to say that a very significant percentage of Arcade Fire fans preordered Funeral, or at least bought the album in the very first week of its release.

Got the mag, not much more than we already knew though. Shall type it up anyways :)

Coldplay reveal secret headquaters

Chris Martin talks about the bands new base, where they can avoid the paparazzi he hates

Coldplay's Chris Martin has revealed he has hired a new headquarters for his band, specifically designed to deflect attention from the group and help them avoid photographers.

The band have hired and ex-bakery in Primrose Hill, north London in which to base themselves for the next two years as they promote their upcoming album 'VLVODAAHF' out on June 16th. Coldplay began work on their new LP in late 2006, recording in Barcelona, New York and London with producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.

Martin explained that he chose the building because it was so unappealing in an attempt to deflect attention from the band - a move in line with Martin's famously rocky relationship with the tabloid press.

"I used to walk past it every day," he told NME. "For years I used to walk past it and think 'What an ugly place.' Then, one day, a 'to let' sign appeared outside. I thought, 'Hmmm, that place is so ugly, I bet no-one would bother us there.' "

"It's the first time we've had a proper band home since we were rehearsing in my student bedroom in 1999," added Jonny Buckland.

Shifting topics Martin explained how Coldplay ended up working with the legendary Eno. "It was Brian's idea," he revealed. "I would often meet up with him for tea and start playing tabla machines...and that just turned into a years worth of production."

The band also revealed how Arcade Fire influenced the new album: "After he worked on 'Neon Bible' Win Butler told us, 'You should work with this guy, [long time Eno-collaborator] Markus Dravs - he'll whip you lot into shape!' " explained Martin

Also most excitingly there's a What's on NME stereo section and they name VLVODAAHF as one and they say:

Yup next week we're giving you a taster of Coldplay's new album via our free 7 inch of album track 'Violet Hill' on the cover. The good news is the song is great. The super news is it's only the sixth best song on the album.
