600,000 people signing up to get the link.

Bearing in mind when i first signed up, I used a fake email address, and when I finally signed up for a 2nd time I got 5 different emails with unique download codes.

So it might be 600K requests for links, but not all those 600K requests turned into downloads, but it is a good way to drum up interest in the album

Interesting... seeing how many people here on this board haven't even gotten the email or are unable to download it even after the email came, its probably much more if you count the downloads from rapidshare, sendspace, and limewire and other P2P programs a lot of people have relied on because of the problems with coldplay.com

ahh, 600,000 in the first day! that's amazing. absolutely amazing. i think it'll hit a million by 11:59PM next monday. and this isn't counting all the times it's been unofficially shared by people that got it early and then sent it to people because they couldn't get the email because the site was so backed up. i bet that's another 5,000 or so right there, probably more.

ooh, i bet EMI is piiiiiiissed that they let coldplay do this for free!

Hahaaa, that makes it even better!

600k is the shit. I was lucky so at 12:45pm GMT I was able to get through and get it sent to my email. Got the email right away, download link worked a charm.

If you're not getting emails it's likely that there's a delay in what time you get them due to the massive requests.

The 600,000 download figure really surprised me! Goooood fans :D Although I did click on the link about 10 times until I realised there was some sort of hold-up... sad-smiley-067.gif

Hopefully a tour of the new album makes its way to Northern Ireland ... That's all I ask for!

And that the total TOOLS who were at the last gig in Belfast 2005 do NOT get the tickets that "real" fans (such as myself) are desperate to get their hands on otherwise I'll have some serious ass kicking to do sad-smiley-024.gif

Why oh why do these people buy tickets just to ruin gigs for everyone else angry-smiley-055.gif

Anyway...rant over :D

It drives me crazy how sometimes radio ticket winners get the first 10 rows, and half the time the winners only know/like the singles...if that. I can't complain since I've gotten some PRIME Coldplay tickets over the years, but I feel sorry for true fans that get stuck behind wannabes that only know Yellow.

Look At Free Music, Look How It Drives Web Traffic To You….

coldplay.jpg

Free music equals serious web traffic, at least that’s what Coldplay have found with the free release of “Violet Hill” on their website April 29.

According to figures release by Hitwise, the Coldplay website shot to the top of the rankings in the Bands and Artists category, with 52% of visits to the site coming via an email sent to registered fans. Exclaim News reports the single was download 600,000 times in the first 24 hours.

One song doesn’t make a revolution, and we’ve already seen experiments from other bands including Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead (the latter being a poorly executed publicity stunt). This sort of traffic does demonstrate some sort of tangible benefit for Coldplay, and therefore in favor of offering music for free. In Coldplay’s case they also insisted that those wanting the free single had to provide an email address, post/ zip code and country of origin; given just shy of 50% of those visiting the site for the free music weren’t registered fans, that’s around 300,000 new Coldplay fans now registered at the site (and still growing), 300,000 people Coldplay can now market albums, concerts and merchandise to.
