locust7
Well, now that you know that I was telling the truth about first listening of "Violet Hill"... http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43945 I think you'll be able to digest some more advances (and will believe me): - Next singles are potentially 42 and Viva La Vida, in this order, but that could still change, regarding the last one - The Escapist or Death and All His Friends (or both combined) have a weaker possibility too - Yes, Violet Hill reflects and combines in its lyrics political and personal issues (it's exactly what you're thinking) and the "Bucket for a Crown" connections are true, as well as the U2 "Lemon" connection - Viva La Vida is a faster and even more romantic and free song than Violet Hill - The album begins the same way it ends (aren't Life and Death close sisters after all?) - Despite the title, seems dubious that Chris will sing a single word in Spanish in the whole album (maybe just a chorus) - The biblic and religious issue is very present in the lyrics throrought the whole album as in Violet Hill - The Pink Floyd, Genesis, Radiohead and U2 (specially "The Joshua Tree era) comparison will without no doubt follow with the release and reviews, but I must say it's a modern and further step due to more and heavier use of electronics (thanks to Eno and Dravs) - Every song is different. The album is eclectic in its moods and sounds, in the way of Portishead "Third" album, but the whole is more valuable, in the same vein And some important questions I throw up: - What do you believe is the song that was re-recorded from scratch from all into the final mix (Prospekt said)? - What do you expect from 42? (And I'll tell you it's not what you can think from Violet Hill listening)
Space Cadet
Hmm... interesting. And yeah, thanks for the Violet Hill tidbits before... they kept me sane even with the (former) uncertainty. :nice:

RunForTheHills
So have you heard this information from an anonymous source, or have you actually heard the album?
locust7
As in the previous case, there are some details I don't want to reveal. All I can say is in any case I haven't listened the whole album, but I've listened snippets, and not of every song...
Carolyn Marie
Thank you for the insight, locust7! Were the other song snippets you had heard as guitar driven as Violet Hill is?
locust7
Yes. Guitars and guitars are all around, and in one case "My Bloody Valentine" or "Ride" will rise as an influence as the song is certainly influenced by shoegazer sound... And it's the guitar and the rhythm that define in each case how the song will be...

locust7
No, the guitar sound varies a lot. Violet Hill is heavier. Other songs "Life" are almost acoustic, Viva has very free sound..., Yes-Chinese is heavy at the beginning, shoegazer at the end, Strawberry is bluesier, and is some parts of songs you'll feel "country" sound... As "The Joshua Tree" varied in style, this also happens to be the case (Remember that "Running to Stand Still" ,"Trip Through Your Wires" or "Where The Streets Have No Name" are very different between each other)
RunForTheHills
Locust, are some of the other songs longer than Violet Hill?, Because I'm hoping there will be a few longer songs on there.
TraceOddity
Interesting points. THanks for the info. I particularly liked this one: "- The Pink Floyd, Genesis, Radiohead and U2 (specially "The Joshua Tree era) comparison will without no doubt follow with the release and reviews, but I must say it's a modern and further step due to more and heavier use of electronics (thanks to Eno and Dravs)" I posted somewhere yesterday that if VH is any indication, this album will draw comparisons to some of the greatest Classic Rock album from the 70s! I feel kind of justified in saying that now that I have a little back-up.:)

locust7
As I haven't heard it all, not all the songs, not all parts of the songs I've listened, I'm not sure. But to my understanding, only the combined songs (Reign-Lovers, Yes-Chinese and specially Death-Escapist) will for sure be longer. I doubt it vey much about the others. Chirs said in Jo Whiley the album is very short.

locust7
Favourite song? From what I've listened :"Viva La Vida" (the song) 42 is also a very good one. I think there are song that top the quality of "Violet Hill" being this a very good song. Oh, I forgot to talk about some "Arcade Fire" influence as "Neon Bible" was recorded in a church completely, and Dravs was the producer, regarding the epic sonic freedom of the songs... TraceOddity
I'm not being skeptical. Just pointing out that recording in churches and cathedrals aren't all that recent. Been going on for years. Is that all you're basing the Arcade Fire comparison on, or is there a music reason for it? I know Chris is a fan of AF, so it wouldn't surprise me. rudy_o
i trust you. :nice: thanks locust i'm hoping something different from 42. but not too dark and depressing.
Saffire
I love shoegazer music. Give me an M83/Coldplay hybrid and I'll have a huge smile on my face.
- Gabriel
Every song is different. The album is eclectic in its moods and sounds, but the whole is more valuableExcellent. I was hoping that the style of "Violet Hill" was the exception rather than the rule, and this seems to indicate that. (Not that it's a bad song at all, but I was hoping for more of a departure from the old sound)
crestingwaves
Why are the combined songs so? Like, can you expand of what they are? Are they two songs together...or just 1 song where they couldn't decide on the name...
thecrackedjack
Are there songs heavier than Violet Hill? Or more rocking songs than Violet Hill, I should say?
Famous Old Painter
With the combined songs, what are the transistions between song a and song b like? And what about Cemeteries of London? I'm certain I've heard that was considered as a single.
