Something Interesting About VLV...

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that this song has beautiful lyrics that could make you cry (about a hero's tragic downfall and how he now suffers from great loneliness and misfortune), yet the tempo is upbeat and more happy than the lyrics suggest? This song is just brilliant and I think it is perfect in every which way, yet I find this odd, but somewhat beautiful.

I agree, this is a very profound song. I love it soo much, definitely one of their best! :)

When i downloaded this song yesterday on itunes and was listening to it for the first time and i was watching Braveheart at that time. I dont know, it kind of gave it that historic kind of feel to it or something like that.

Makes me think of The Hardest Part. Only the lyrics are a billion times better. Hell, even the music is a billion times better.

Conclusion: Viva la Vida >>>>>> The Hardest Part

You cry BECAUSE it's so uplifting. You cry because you're happy. ;)

Or maybe that's just me.

does any one hear the tune of "The Scientist" in "Viva La Vida'?

'cuase I sure do.

yeah, it's a bittersweet song, warm because the character is reflecting on his eyes being opened about the way he was and the way he should be. The strings come off like a rainbow following a storm, realizing the downfalls of when he ruled the world and having a greater outlook on life. It comes down to what will said the album was about... Getting back to the simple things and what matters in life. In this story he sees the terrible difficulties that were present when he was king and is much happier not that he's changed.

I disagree with josh where he/you make/s it out to be an overall sad song, I think it ends on a note of relief and revelation. and the narrator is happier and better off because of it.

VIVA LA VIDA!

yeah I sorta cried too when I first heard it :embarassed:

Aw, Chris would love you for that!:D

I agree that it ends on a note of relief.

Chris would rather be 'good' than 'big' these days, so I wonder just how personal this song is. He loves veiling his own life in metaphor, so maybe he's learned some life-lessons over the past 3 years.:)

alright this is kind of dumb but... i've been president of my class for the first 3 years of high school and it's something i really care about and try hard at and next week are elections for senior year and i'm being challenged by my vice president who is pretty well-liked and definately has a good shot at beating me. i feel as though i've done a good job and there is no reason why he should be president over me... and so when i listen to this song... i feel like it's talking about how i will feel if he ends up winning next week. it just perfectly sums up how unfair it seems for me to NOT be president... once again this probably sounds dumb haha but thats just how it relates well to me at this moment in time... so relating to the topic... the upbeat melody with the sad lyrics are very dramatic and definately make me feel a lot of emotion when i listen to this.

I kind of see the song as a story of an everyman who gets kicked into the bottom of the barrel of society through unfortunate events in his personal life (divorce, death, loss of job etc). Despite the misfortunes he experiences, he still keeps his head up at the sky and knows that one day he will obtain what he wants and deserves in life. Through all this tragedy he still remains happy and still remains optimistic. I think that is reason that the song is very up tempo.

WOW. I just heard it for the first time. I feel like floating. THIS IS GOING TO KICK ASS LIVE.

I hope there will be a string section onstage.

Oh I'm crying alright.

That's exactly what I thought, some of the lyrics do seem to be a veiled dig at himself. Especially "People couldn't believe what I'd become" and "Revolutionaries wait/ For my head on a silver plate/Just a puppet on a lonely string/Oh who would ever want to be king?"
