sit down, shut up?

Featured Replies

is anyone else here a bit worried about the whispers going around that the whole UK Tour will be sitting. I for one am and i wont be best pleased if Coldplay decide not to allow standing. They are meant to be a band, dare i say it a rock/indie band, and they want people to sit down at their gigs? this is a bad decision in my book.

if they are charging £40 a ticket to stand i'll buy them, but for sitting down, with no atmosphere? forget it

even if there are seats, it doesn't mean everyone will be seated for the whole concert... in fact, everyone will be standing. It just means you'll have a reserved seat.

still rubish though as i know ill have some old goat behind me telling me to sit down.

know if coldplay know everyone will be standing why have seats? they could fit more people in standing and make more money and please more people.

you know it makes sense

about which show are you talking about?

i was at a concert in a theatre a week ago and nobody was sat in their seats :P we were singing and jumping  the only thing that wasn't allowed was to take pictures or videos :( (rules of the theatre itself), but everyone was free to be sat and quiet on their seat or stand up and singing :uhoh:

no its just that ive heard that 2 venues of the UK tour have said that it will be an 'all seating' affair. this means there is no general admission / standing.

im sure anyone who has sat at a coldplay gig, and stood can tell the difference.

really? that's so bad.. :\

but if everybody decide to be stand up i don't think they'll ban all them.

still not the same as getting there early, getting right to the front with a few beers n that

do you know what i mean?

I'm too old for standing these days :P

but the last 3 or 4 i went to were still fun sat down. was also luvverly, didn't have to get there super early, didn't get leaned on or crushed by drunk idiots, and had a good view although not as close up.

ah this reminds me of last summers Muse gig in Verona.

The security people over there told us before the gig that we were not allowed to stand..

Well, the band came and played their first song and everyone was going crazy and the security dudes had lots of work trying (really only trying) to make some people sit.

And so the first song ended and the almighty Matthew Bellamy said " What the hell? Let the people stand up if they want to! Yay STAND UP people!"

And so the security guys couldn't do a thing mohaha.

So yeah..Nothing can stop 10, 000 people standing up and jumping around if they want to..

yuck! sitting down is for watching TV or a nice play or something quiet, relaxing....going to a rock concert is very un-rock n roll. you can kinda get away with it in the US because it is so par for the course. In the UK, the concept of sitting down for indie/rock bands is so not cool and most gig goers do not want it. Sitting down tickets are like a last resort choice in Britain ie. all the standing have gone!

my point exactly!

unless i can get tickets right at the front i will not be going.

Just phoned the SECC box office. They said as far as they were aware it was all seating. For £40, I'm really not sure I can be bothered. Not that it wouldn't be a great concert, but purely due to the ridiculous choice to not have standing.

I mean, there would still be seating for those who wanted it and there is more capacity when standing, so they even make more money... I just don't understand the decision. It makes Coldplay seem like one of those boring 50-somethings bands who have reformed and are living on 20 year old material, touring purely to top up their bank accounts. Which, obviously they're not, as their excellent new songs prove. But I just really want to know why?!

Rant over.

im in the same boat as you pal. it is a complete joke and i think they are forgetting their roots

Hell wtf is happening ? I can't believe that either...

Seems it won't be like that for others Europe's dates.

That doesn't make any sense !

That's so ridiculous, I don't think I have ever been to anything that was sitting only! Not in the US or in UK and I have been to alot! That is just amazing to me! How can you control the whole arena. I have always stood up when the main act comes! Wow, I didn't know they had these kind of restricted shows!

I agree. Liverpool is gonna be all seating too, according to their box office, and £42.50!!!!! I can't afford that sort of price, especially for a seat. Part of the whole gig experience for me is queuing to get a good spot at the front and being as close to the band as possible. Really disappointed, I won't be buying tickets now.

Is that the O2 ?

Pffffiou I'm breathing again !

It is the O2!

Thanks a lot for making me feel so much better ! :D

Interesting that they have different scetions for standing i.e. A!, Bx and Cx not just general admission! Assume it will be the same for all shows?

We all want to be in A1!

Cheers

Warby

fair enough, gotta get in A1 now :)

I was ready to book tickets for the Liverpool and second Manchester shows, now I'm having to think about maybe going to just one,I hate sitting at concerts and find it hard to believe that coldplay are going ahead with this.

Here's a link to ticketline which has a seating chart for all the UK shows

youll be able to stand and jump and sing. Coldplay wouldnt enjoy playing for a bunch of people sitting silently.
