StephenG
NME (which I don't trust) gave it 8/10 and another site 3/5. Metacritic hasn't got a page on Viva La Vida yet but I reckon the reviews arn't going to be as favorable as we were expecting. Which is a shame because ever the album isn't any better than the songs we already have or its not going to recieve the credit its due. Some people on Amazon claim to have been at a listening party however and they gave it a rave review, saying they succeeded in making a memorible album. StephenG
Just have to wait for Pitchfork :P I hate those guys, such snobs, totally more concerned with the image than the musicmanship. Makes a good read tho :shocked2:
lostsides
It's a Coldplay record, what do you expect?
FedEx
Rating music is stupid. It's all subjective, it's like rating which pair of sunglasses are the coolest.
colduser
It's a Coldplay record. It will be awesome. I do not need a glowing critical review to know how amazing the record will be.
felicote
I think a lot of the critics are being conservative this time around. They dont want a repeat of X&Y where at first listen it was incredible but after repeats one started to notice the overproduction and crap lyrics more and more. I LOVED X&Y when it first came out. Now I cannot even listen to it. Their first 2 albums are timeless. X&Y.....not so much. I have a very good feeling that VLVODAAHF will be!! - Gabriel
I think a lot of the critics are being conservative this time around. They dont want a repeat of X&Y where at first listen it was incredible but after repeats one started to notice the overproduction and crap lyrics more and more. That's exactly what I think is happening. This may be one of those albums that magazines re-evaluate a few years down the road, like Rolling Stone did with Weezer's Pinkerton (from 3 stars to 5 stars) or Pitchfork did with Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (from 8.7 to 10.0). Albums are usually recognized as perfect only in retrospect. Not to say that Viva La Vida is perfect. We haven't even heard it yet. Maybe it deserves the scores it's getting. However, I agree emphatically that X&Y did not.
CRYSTAL
if some one says that coldplay's music is worst,is it gonna be true? by heart as a fan of coldplay i know what their music is. i even don't want to care about all these reviewers or reviews you know? what is there. i know i am in love again with the music. these all people who wanted to drag coldplay away let us see whether they'll succeed or not. if they do anything to coldplay i know i won't leave all those dickhead radiohead fans and i will kill all of them! i want to give one mark for all those radiohead fans though. eventhough their band is nice their fans aren't nice. they're just nothing but stupids. they don't know how to listen to the music of band they like instead they'll listen to the music of their band and then fight with other bands which are doing good than their bands. i know now several of people here will target me,but still i will tell this and yeah shout this louder! Cobalt
It's all because of X&Y and what became of that...
Miha
I think Rolling Stone will give them a good review because the album is, no doubt about it, very very good, judging from what we've heard. Some people just don't like them, that's all. Let's just enjoy it all and forget the silly reviews!:D ps. my lucky day (I'm going to a coldplay concert in vienna!!:)
mountainloafers
I agree with all of the points of view here. Take each review with a grain of salt. Having said that I still dont understand why none of the reviews have heard what we have heard. For me to give it an 8 out of 10 would mean that the rest of the songs would have to fall flat. The songs so far are all 9's and 10's in my book and VLVODAAHF has surpassed X&Y and Parachutes for me. If I listened to nothing else I would like it as much as AROBTTH. Alas, the reviews dont matter. My ears are slap full of the new stuff and I feel Ive already heard the album of the year, if not the decade. Still more songs to hear though... And the listening parties, as great as they are for preventing leaks, don't lend themselves to songs that are growers getting enough attention and respect. Remember, every time we get a new song, most of us listen over and over and over.
