The Number 42

Featured Replies

" I think the problem is that the question was too broadly based.. "

" Forty Two!", yelled Loonquawl. "Is that all you've got to show for seven and a half million years' work?":laugh3:

credit to Douglas Adams..

But 42 also makes a nice mathematical pseudo-palindrome, : 4224, or 2442. It just looks nice, given the even-ness of the numbers 4 and 2, both quite elegant.

how is it? My dad took me to his concert a month ago and it was pretty good, albeit I got yelled atby old ppl for standing up

actually a little dissapointing on the first listen. It's a compilation starting off with some blatant pop. Tacky drum machines and cliche producing touches like the prominent background singers give the songs a really shallow taste. "change the world" and "my fathers eyes", and "tears in heaven" are brilliant live, but the studio versions don't feel real, and go almost in the direction of a michael mcdonald motown taste. For the first third the guitar takes a secondary role, unoriginal and the mood is very manufactured.

They throw in, layla from the unplugged concert, which is great but kind of out of place. From there you get a grab bag of 80s, 90s hits some good, some so-so (up to you). The album does a poor job of fusing past and present, you get a row of lame R&B-esque pop songs and then are hit by much more raw signature clapton guitar for the next few songs. The album has it's ups and downs, but reminds you of why I hate a lot of compilation C.D's.

In the future I'd suggest a live album, or a straight up studio album (depending on your taste). I got this one because I liked the track list, and was wondering how the studio versions were, but they are underwhelming compared to their live counterparts.

(SORRY TO DIVERT INTO AN ALBUM REVIEW).

i just noticed my phone number has 42 in it twice xD

Lol I keep seeing 42 everywhere aswell, me and my friends decided to have a minutes silence every 42nd minute after the hour... but it only lasted for 2 hours, you cant really stay silent in the middle of a lesson! But yeah 42 seems to be popping out at me all the time from the most random places :D

42 !!!! !!

^ how come you had a minutes silence every 42nd minutes? In homage to 42?

^ haha, yay! go Douglas Adams! :)

Lookie what I found on wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_42

In Japanese, 4 (shi) and 2 (ni) are together pronounced like "going to death" (死に). Because of that, in Japan, 42 is considered as a disastrous number.

:wreck:

The plot thickens ever more!

^ Yep in Coldplay homage, it was a whole minute donated to Coldplay thoughts, but to be honest I dont really need one of them cos Coldplay are on my mind A LOT!

~*42*~

Once when I was taking a school test, all i could hear were Coldplay songs in my head...:D

For one of my answers i seriously started writing the lyrics to (i think it was "Violet Hill" at the time). Good thing I caught myself and erased it.

Question: What was the status of Buddhism in India following the fall of the Gupta empire?

Answer: It continued to decline with the presense of snow, white snow. Clearly I remember from the rooftops they were watching while we froze....

Happens to me all the time, I posted this in the random thread but in one of my exams this was a question:

'Cars on motorways travel at high speeds. This means that warning signs are needed to guide them (something like that I cant remember it word for word). These signs are usually yellow.'

It totally put me off and made me go into a Coldplay day dream That's gotta be deliberate, there can't be that many Coldplay references by accident!

Hehe Coldplay obsession is good! :D

Lucky living in England? I wouldnt say that, the weather here is shocking, its the middle of July and Im bloody freezing!

^ Are you serious, that was a question!?

Wow you must have just died when you read that! :D

(or gone off into a MASSIVE daydream as you say) *sigh*

Well yeah, but lucky except for the weather.

You live so close to Coldplay's home base!!!

I just noticed the other day that on my dads car number plate is the number 42!

Rafael Nadal is the first male Spaniard to win Wimbledon in 42 years! :P
