Can Coldplay get away with NOT playing Yellow at concerts?

Featured Replies

what if some of the people in the crowd loves Yellow and it's their first coldplay concert and they don't play it... I'd be really disappointed :P

And I think that's why they'll always play it. They're nice guys who want to put on a good show for everyone and they know Yellow is expected of them.

yup, gotta keep playing it. Kind of song that ya think is gettin old on the nerves, till they actually start playing it, then of course, you`re sucked in and cant resist singing along !!

If the audience was Coldplaying.com then sure they could.

But if I was still just a casual fan going to see them then I would've been disappointed if they hadn't played Yellow.

Yeah, when the crowd sings along with the "skin and bones" bit... even the hardest of hearts must be melted.

I'd like to think that they could get away with it. But then I'd just be wrong.

Wait, did they play Yellow at Glastonbury 2005??? I dont think they did.

It would be a bit like U2 not playing "With Or Without You" or The Rolling Stones not playing "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction".:dozey:

While I cannot speak to The Rolling Stones setlist, I know that U2 does concerts all the time without playing some of the older hits. They have such a catolog of hits and songs though that they can get away with it.

For Coldplay I think the same pretty much applies. Just because it was there first hit doesnt mean they should be a slave to it. Sometimes a song needs to be retired live, so that they can make a big deal when they bring it back revamped!

I've never seen them live, and sure I may want to see Yellow, but its no necessity. You go for the band much more than the songs in my opinion, you wouldnt be there if you only liked Yellow.

Some good points, footyfan, but if they don't do it, it could upset a certain section of the corwd, who'll then upset everyone else.

Last year I went to see Crowded House - they are awesome live: they sound great, they don't take themselves too seriously and they know how to please their audience.

There was this jerk two rows in front of me. At the end of each song he shouted "do 'Don't Dream It's Over". There was no way they wouldn't do the song, but he kept shouting it anyway and he really got on the nerves of everyone around him.

I'd hate to have a Coldplay concert spoilt by someone shouting for Yellow

I would be extremely surprised if ANY full U2 concert omitted "With Or Without You". Just wouldn't happen.;)

I think actually shouting out requests is extremely lame.:dozey:

I'd never do that.;)

But if you did, you'd do it in pun-derful fashion!

of course they can.

the vast majority of fans who go to see them are really true fans,

and will enjoy the show if yellow isn't on the setlist.

however, and there's always a 'however'... they won't stop playing it just yet.

and I'm glad, the BBC gig was my first coldplay gig, and for that reason I wanted to see it played live, because it's their classic track. It's always in my top 5 songs, and seeing it live was the most amazing thing ever, even the acoustic version.

so they COULD get away with it, but they won't stop playing it just yet :)

Got it in pun!!

See, that kind of proves a point that someone else made earlier - there's always going to be some people in the crowd who've not had the live Coldplay experience before, so there'll always be people who want to hear it

Lol well I have seen a handful of their concerts, one live lol, and a number on dvd, and they didn't have with or without you.

The current U2, or at least post ATYCLB would play Joshua Tree songs because it was in the same musical vein, but in the 90's they frequently didn't play the song. Who knows what will happen if their next album is as innovate as they suggest.

Got it in pun!!

Got me again :laugh3:

You are one pun guy!

Apparently at one of Jeff Buckley's concerts, some idiot kept yelling for Hallelujah and eventually, Jeff told him to fuck off. :laugh3:

I was born with a gift!!:P

i especially want certain type of setlist from so far!

i wanted to see Yellow always because its the only song that i like ever in my life.

and also this list:

i ran away

animals

sparks

we never change

the hardest part

swallowed in the sea

a message

warning sign( i think when ever they play this song my inner feelings are priceless)

Yes

Lost

these songs really makes my day every time they play.

and in the concerts i don't bother about who listened or not listened as far as they play them i'll be the one who listen them with out feeling bored.

and Yeah i want Coldplay to play one day in my home country India.

but i don't know when that day will come.

I'd like to think that they could get away with it. But then I'd just be wrong.
