Can Coldplay get away with NOT playing Yellow at concerts?

Featured Replies

I was watching Vh1's 'Top Songs of the 80s' and this one artist was angry and frustrated because his fans only want to hear his biggest hit at his concerts. This got me thinking about Coldplay. Yellow was their first hit and I know they get tired of playing it at times. And I keep thinking about that article in Spin where Phil Harvey mentioned them not wanting to play 'Yellow' for the next thirty years. :freak:

So, would you be terribly upset if Yellow was left off their setlist or is it just one of those songs that they HAVE to play or people would feel cheated?

I'm just thinking out loud.

*EDIT* Oh shit, I should have added a poll.

i dont care if they leave yellow out...........but alot of people love that song and expect to hear it soooooooo i guess NO!!!!!

I don't care, I think it would be a great change, but all of the people who've only heard of Yellow will come expecting to hear it and get all angry. They wouldn't be able to.

I would love it if they would replace Yellow with Shiver or Daylight!!

yes with DAYLIGHT!!!!!!!!!!......:D

Yellow is SOOO overrated! I really don't care if they let it out.

I would be a little dissapointed , but no more than if they left out the scientist, fix you, etc. 90 min of coldplay is all I ask. I don't rlly care if ive heard the songs b4, they are just that damn good

Sometimes I think I would exchange "Yellow" for "Warning Sign". LOL

i watched that as well and the song your referring to is I RAn by A Flock Of Seagulls. actually a decent song in my opinion. but their only decent song lol. but yes they could get away with it lol.

I don't think they really mind playing Yellow all the time cause they know how important it was to kick-starting their success.. in some interview I remember Chris saying they would never stop playing the 'hits' so I guess Yellow is here to stay! Which I dont mind i like all their songs though I wouldn't mind hearing them do an acoustic of Swallowed in the Sea and ROBTTH

I would n't be angry if they don't play yellow... but in most of the concerts people go crazy with that song

They could probably get away with it in all honestly. I'm starting to see Clocks and Viva eclipse the song anyway. I actually think if they didn't do Clocks, there'd be more of an uproar.

I personally could live without it 'cos it's a great song, but not one of my favourites. But in general, I think most bands have a "that song" which everyone wants to hear. Coldplay know that for them it's Yellow (I once heard Guy say in an interview that they'd be lynched if they didn't play it at a concert)

I guess they just mix it up to keep it fresh for them. Last tour there were those giant Yellow balloons with the confetti, this time they've done it acoustic a few times, right?

Ultimately, what makes that song so special live is that the entire audience goes nuts - not everyone buys singles so they don't know the B-sides, not everyone has listened to the latest album as much as the people on this forum, but EVERYONE knows Yellow

Well, Yellow is one of my fav songs of the guys, but I can understand that have to sing it ALWAYS can be tired... I like YELLOW :D

it's a classic, so it definitely has to be in the setlist!! same goes for the scientist, clocks and in my place... people expect to hear those songs, plus, they're brilliant live. i'd be totally disappointed if they didn't play yellow - it was one of the best moments when i saw them in 2005

They have to play it in one form or another. A CP concert without it is unthinkable.;)

It would be a bit like U2 not playing "With Or Without You" or The Rolling Stones not playing "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction".:dozey:

or wolfgang petry not playing hölle hölle hölle? ;D

or wolfgang petry not playing hölle hölle hölle? ;D

Well every one of his songs sounds like that, so I don't suppose anyone would actually notice!!:P

Well, I wouldn't mind if they left it out, would like to hear some other things live, like daylight. And also, when they play live, I hope they're gonna leave out the synth, do more acoustic, after seeing Viva la Vida being played at MTV Movies awards, I was scared they'd do that all their concerts.

Personally they can get away with anything if you ask me....

what if some of the people in the crowd loves Yellow and it's their first coldplay concert and they don't play it... I'd be really disappointed :P

anyway.. I'd prefer don't panic or shiver
