To guyy: I think it all boils down to peoples' personal tastes and what they connect to more. I could ask you just the same way why you like Coldplay so much.

Well yeah, I just can't figure out why so many people have such weird taste. :P And I can explain why I like Coldplay so much, in much clearer terms than Radiohead fans usually use:

1. Most of their songs have meaningful, intelligent lyrics.

2. I can understand what the singer is singing most of the time.

3. Their songs aren't jam-packed full of awful electronic noise or computerized voice modification.

4. The songs don't have enormous volume variation intended to blast your eardrums apart.

5. The instrumental parts of the songs actually sound good, with well-chosen melodies and instruments.

6. The lead singer has plenty of emotion but never sounds irrationally furious.

And so on. For me at least, Radiohead fails all of these except maybe #4, and has lots of bonus anti-features. But maybe I'm just too picky. :\

Erm, its definately a hard question to answer, to pinpoint why you like someone's music. Factors i enjoy throughly about radiohead that i do not always find in others; that wonderful voice, he delivers lines in songs with such great emotion, whether its falsetto or sneering delivery. The structure of the songs, thom is just a great songwriter simply, from the more conventional simplicity of 'gagging order' and 'street spirit' to the weirder affairs of 'dollars and cents' and 'national anthem'. I just appreciate all the different twists and turns in the songs. I love that they have tried different things over the course of their albums, 'the bends' straight forward guitar fuelled affair which reveals some classic songs. 'amnesiac' with its moody, dark exterior which eventually reveals a warmth in the details of the song elements. I dont really know what else to comment on....this probably doesnt help at all  but it really is hard to explain.

This is why I find this so perplexing...I completely disagree with almost everything you said. For me, the lead singer's voice is by far the worst part of Radiohead; I might actually like some of their songs if it was different. I just forced myself to try listening to "Karma Police" again, and like all their songs, the singer has no emotion that I can detect. The lyrics are pretty much always a blend of horror and dejectedness, making it hard for me to like them no matter what they're supposed to be about. The twists and turns do make their songs interesting, but besides "Paranoid Android," the songs of theirs I've heard don't have any. They may have changed their songs somewhat over time, but I hate their old songs just as much as their new ones, so I'd guess their core style hasn't really changed. So...yeah. As long as they don't wipe out Coldplay, you can have your Radiohead, but don't try to convert me; it won't work. :P

At Coldplay's expense, though, on Coldplaying.com...

Very Poor Show :(

sorry about that , but I believe being that this is a Coldplay messageboard , they should come out victorious anyway , if the people around here are the true fans that they very well should be , it is Coldplaying.com after all...

I'm not voting.

I really don't know. I love both. I fell in love with In Rainbows which made me fall in love with Radiohead again. But VLV made me fall in love with Coldplay again. More then X&Y has. Both are brilliant. Who cares which is better? Two different bands, two different styles.

I love Radiohead, but for me what makes coldplay my fav band and not radiohead is Chris's voice... yes Chris Martin's voice, Yorke has a better voice than Chris but the way he sings can be annoying sometimes. Coldplay are not perfect, but they are my fav band. Coldplay need a more agressive use of guitar and have some little more musicianship... for me radiohead music is almost flawless but the singers sometimes annoys me.

Well you see, I could super-clearly explain why I like Radiohead just like you explained about Coldplay, but the thing is, as soon as you start using words like "awful" or "good" etc etc it becomes your own objective opinion. In my opinion of RH:

1. Radiohead have insanely intelligent, meaningful lyrics that open up new worlds each time you listen to them.

2. I can understand what the singer is singing.

3. Their electronic noise and computer-enhanced vocals aren't "awful" but rather brilliant on the other hand.

4. Volume is quite normal. (?)

5. Instrumentals are amazing, from guitar and piano solos to orchestra pieces.

6. The lead singer has a perfect way of expressing emotions and a beautiful voice.

7. The band are never afraid to try something new, which is the reason it's hard for me to get tired of their music.

But see, this isn't fact. that's my opinion, which could be debated. Which is why there's no better or worse band in general, just in the eyes of different people. We're not trying to convert you at all.

I know this is all just opinion, and I'd never say there's something wrong with liking Radiohead. But, I guess what I really can't figure out is why there's such a strong correlation between Coldplay fans and Radiohead fans. I do like a few of Radiohead's songs, but they all seem completely different from any of Coldplay's songs. It's as if all Coldplay fans were also huge fans of country music for no apparent reason. Even ignoring all the things I like about Coldplay and dislike about Radiohead, the difference between them is like night and day. But they must be similar somehow...

And I know you aren't trying to convert me, but there are always some fans who think anyone that doesn't like their band must be crazy...they'll show up soon enough. :P

Okay I know what you mean.. why there's a lot of people who originally like Coldplay and end up becoming Radiohead fans. Well I guess they just find out about Radiohead by way of Coldplay cause CP have been influenced by them (they say so themselves), and then they start to like them a lot for their own reasons. Honestly now that I think about it I don't really see what Coldplay actually have taken from Rh...

no, it is much simpler , all of that is not necessary...

Well, whatever you're doing is cheating in some way...both the poll and the other people. Poor show :(

Twisted logic indeed. If you were in any sense a fan of Coldplay, you wouldn't try to prove what the lads wrote in that song true, imo.

In a straight fight in musical quality when played back-to-back on my CD player, Viva La Vida wins.

In a not-so-straight fight, Viva La Vida wins. It's just the better album

Agreed. And agreed. :)

maybe I'm just insane but I am the only one who sees no resemblance between radiohead and coldplay, they are just so different in many ways, the only song I could relate both would be such a rush or maybe high speed. And btw I love much more Karma Police than Paranoid Android... I consider Karma Police one of the best songs ever (imo of course) while the critics and most of the people like more Paranoid Android. In fact I don't like Paranoid Android

No, I don't see it either, they're incomparable for me. It's like trying to equate The Beatles to Pink Floyd - not possible.

But then again, this thread's (meant to be) just about which of the two albums we all prefer, I think...and so I do hope the mods are talking to EL_TOPO about how and why he's cheating the system and ruining the results...

yes sorry for going off topic.

I just think Viva la Vida has more uh life... more colours (ironic)

Sorry, you weren't off topic at all really, and it was a great point. I just don't see why someone would knowingly try to fix this poll :(

Yeah, I agree I think people mistake influenced with plagarism
