  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Dear Oracle,

what was the rubbish film you saw?

:D

The Oracle replies:

Thanks to the cinema having the wrong information listed on their website I saw Little Fockers instead of Somewhere. It wasn't as good as Meet the Parents and that was not helped by the behaviour of some audience members who clearly know nothing of cinema etiquette.

That's my bah humbug rant over. I shall be seeing Somewhere on Boxing Day instead.

Q. Hello!

I had a vacation in London last week and when I was at the underground there was a man sitting next to me and he looked SO much like Guy, that I'm so curious if it could even be possible that it was him! I didn't dare to look much because it would be kinda weird if someone's watching you very closely, right? ;) He (pretended?) to be asleep, so I couldn't see his face that good, so that's why I'm really wondering if it could have been Guy or not. I'll regret it for life if it was him, and I didn't say anything.. :( But it will be cool anyway! By the way, it was on the circle line on the 22th of December.

The Oracle replies:

It wasn't him.

Q. WHO'D LIKE TO JOIN TEAM ORACLE?

When I answer questions of a personal/emotional nature, Coldplay.com readers often get in touch with their own thoughts. So, we thought we'd launch a new weekly feature, Team Oracle, whereby each Friday (with the question asker's permission) we open up a question to all of you to answer too. Then, the following Friday, I'll post a selection of the best answers, alongside my own reply.

So, if you'd like to join in, please email your response to the following question, in no more than 200 words, to [email protected] before Thursday 30th December.

"It's so hard to live without one of your parents. And I do not really know what to do. I live with my dad, but it's annoying. I can't understand all the things he does. I'm a teenager and I just can't live with dad. I need my mum. She's in England now, she and her family. What should I do? Marta".

Look forward to seeing your replies.

Q. Q. TEAM ORACLE QUESTION - #5

"If you were to bring back one musical artist/band that has passed away, who would it be and why?

I have to say it'd be a treat to have John Lennon back. Kaley"

The Oracle replies:

I'm going to stick with my original thought from when I first received the question - Jeff Buckley. The reason is because many years ago I was making what was usually a 20 minute journey from work to home but as it was snowing heavily, that journey took 3 hours. I didn't get to see Jeff's gig that night and therefore I'd love the chance to see him perform. I could say this for so many creative inspirations but he was gone too soon. Over to you:

If I had an opportunity to bring back one musical artist, it would be Keith Moon. The best drummer I have ever heard. The word that could describe his personality would be: cool. He was an amazing, easy-going and funny guy and what is most important a great artist. He had this sense of music that is hard to describe.

Monika, Poland.

If I could bring back a person it would be the great Freddie Mercury. He was an artist, a showman & we saw that the music came from the gut. He had an incredible voice and attitude. I was only 12 when he died and I started listening to Queen. I loved listening to them and I wanted to have the pleasure of seeing them on stage to be able to share this show with thousands of people.

Stephanie, France.

Tim and Jeff Buckley met untimely deaths. Their music is deep, moody, and very moving. What they left behind will always be treasured. MM

I would bring back Ray Charles. He had so much soul, something that lacks in a lot of music today (but not Coldplay!). Caitlin.

Bring back Captain Beefheart - although very recently passed, I know I'll miss my dad's references to his music. And who else these days is cool enough to take on a moniker like that?

Luisa, USA

I would bring back Tupac Shakur. So much evolution he was making inside that he would probably transform his angry in something good outside and really help his cause. Victor.

I'm gonna go with Bo Diddley, he is one of the most under-rated founders of rock music, and he bridged a gap between rock & blues music. I would love to see him recognized more in modern culture.

I live in his hometown, a small city in southern Mississippi, and the only thing commemorating him is a picture in a stereotypical American chain restaurant.

Bradley.

I think we can all agree here... Elvis ~ thank you very muuuuch. Joshua.

I'd like Jim Croce to still be among us. He had a nice, warm, gravelly voice, an everyman energy. Lisa

Lennon aside, as an obvious choice, I'd say Stevie Ray Vaughn; If you'd ever the fortune to see him play, you definitely know why. Racer X.

The person I would most like to bring back would be Buddy Holly.

My reason, he started it all for rock and roll! A voice and musical genius that was silenced far too soon!

Joanne, Canada.

Jimi Hendrix. Just to see and hear for myself what's possible with a guitar. Phil Harvey.

Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. He had a short but brilliant artistic life. Then, after he died, his ex-bandmates became New Order, one of my favourite acts of all-time. I'd love to know what music they'd have made if Curtis had stayed alive and they'd all gone forward together. Anchorman.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their thoughts. If you're interested the most missed person of our contributors is Freddie Mercury closely followed by John Lennon.

Q. Hello again Oracle... :)

On Christmas Lights video the vinyl on the beginning, does it really exist? Is it available for purchasing?

Thank you and happy new year. Greetings.

The Oracle replies:

That record was merely a prop and the fantastic authentic central label on the vinyl was made by the multi-talented roadie, Miller.

Is that you, Jilly?? :)

Q. Hello and Merry Christmas, Oracle!

I was at the Liverpool Crisis gig, seated in the Circle, and saw Miller roaming about taking photos. There was someone with him who, now that I look at the pictures, looked a lot like Matt Whitecross. Was it he?

Please give the band and all the Coldplay family my wishes for a happy holiday and great New Year!

The Oracle replies:

I saw him too and he does bear a resemblance to Mat but it wasn't him.

Q. Hi dearest Oracle

Browsing the website of The Museum Of Everything, I found a name Peter Blake. I think I know this name, did you ever speak of him in Coldplay.com?

Thank you!

The Oracle replies:

Peter Blake is the curator of The Museum of Everything and I am not surpised you recognize his name; he designed the sleeve for the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

He's a famous artist well worth looking up.

Yes! How cool, Oracle answered my question! :smug:

Q. What does the pH at the end of Coldplay's tweets mean?

The Oracle replies:

It's Phil's sign-off so it stands for Phil Harvey or rather, phil Harvey.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I hope you are well, yes? I've watched the Christmas Lights video numerous times, and I just love it. How on earth did the fans on the boat find out about it?! And why wasn't I invited? Ok, so I live far off on the other side of the pond . . .

Thanks and Merry Christmas! : )

The Oracle replies:

Once the idea for the video was confirmed we called on coldplaying.com for help to recruit fans to be part of the boat scene. In fact there were fans who travelled from the 'other side of the pond' as it wasn't restricted to U.K residents.

In addition to his initials, based on the way he signs it I always thought of it as a reference to the chemistry concept of pH: he provides neutrality to the band.

i thought of that too

but then i thought i was just a little too nerdy:uhoh:

Q. Do you know the prename of Mr.Bean?? ;-)

The Oracle replies:

Well his name hasn't ever really been confirmed as he refers to himself as Bean to others. There were two episodes where it seemed his name was revealed - the first name field of his passport was shown; in one episode it was "Mr." in the other Rowan which is of course the actor who plays Bean's first name. However, Rowan Atkinson has been quoted as saying he imagined Mr.Bean's name to be Julian.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Is it true that Glee will do an episode of Coldplay? If so I would like to know any Coldplay member would be star guest/s ??

Thanks

The Oracle replies:

I have it on good authority that Viva la Vida will feature in an episode; but not the band.

Q. Hey Oracle!

Is the piano in the Christmas Lights video hand painted by the crew making the video or was it already painted when it arrived on set? It is stunning!

The Oracle replies:

Beautiful isn't it? It was hand painted by an artist prior to the video shoot.
