  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

It's just how we roll

if you really want to get answered, hide it in a relationship question.

i did that once. :blank:

You would.

My girlfriend wants to break up with me because I'm too fat and I always talk about cheeseburgers (hey could Coldplay hand them out at concerts plz thx) and I don't know what to do. I like eating as well as sex, what to do, oh holy Oracle?

Oracle: Two cheeseburgers is the equivalent of one orgasm! So yeah we'll hand them out to all the fat and ugly dudes who can't get laid because they love food more than their girlfriends!

They should give everyone two cheeseburgers then. I don't like half orgasms. You wouldn't know.

Q. Hi Mr the Oracle,

I saw that the Rock am Ring festival was broadcast, but I didn't know it, and I am quite disappointed to have missed such an opportunity. So I wanted to ask you, do you know if others shows of Coldplay are gonna be broadcast?

Thank you very very much!

The Oracle replies:

Yes, quite a few of these big festivals will be televised. They may only be showing in certain territories as is quite normal. I don't have transmission times for the globe but I will endeavour to get some/all of them and ask Anchorman to post them. BBC always show Glastonbury for example so maybe you have a big TV company who broadcast such events. It may be easier to look at your local TV listings around the time of the festival.

Q. Dear Oracle,

At the Rock Am Ring festival Coldplay performed a new song called Charlie Brown. My question is: who is he, and why has Coldplay dedicated this song to him?

Greetings from The Netherlands!

The Oracle replies:

It's definitely not dedicated to a real person. The only Charlie Brown I know of is the comic strip creation by Charles M. Schulz. Given the lyric that led most fans to think the song was called Cartoon Heart, I'd say it's named after him.

Signed: Charlie Brown.

You're funny (and wrong)

How am I taking thing seriously if I'm posting that the Netherlands is this make believe place where Peter Pan and Tinkerbell come from?

Q. Dear Oracle

I really need to know, have Coldplay lost their touch? I know that they've Collaborated with Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson to write Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, but do they now need to rely on other people writing their music for them? Is this the direction the band is headed?

The Oracle replies:

Er, Peter Allen is dead so that's impossible! There has been NO collaboration. I don't think people are quite understanding the song's composition. To clarify: Chris was inspired to write Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall after hearing some chords in a nightclub scene in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's film Biutiful (2010).

The chords in the film are part of a track that is based on I Go To Rio written by Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson, released by Peter Allen in 1976. If you look at a clip on YouTube you'll hear the chords for yourself.

As for other people asking if Ritmo de la noche by the Sacados should also be credited the answer is "no". Firstly, that is a cover of Chocolate's song by the same name who sampled I Go To Rio. Secondly, they both came later in 1990 so hopefully they should have credited Peter & Adrienne.

Q. Dear All-Knowing Oracle,

Is there any chance that the band might officially release the alternate mix of The Escapist that plays over the end credits of the film The Escapist? Possibly as a free download for their fans? (Hint hint).

The Oracle replies:

I'm afraid that's not likely. We're moving forward with the new album campaign you see.

I thought I'd ask Jon Hopkins to give more info on its existence: "That version of The Escapist actually only appears at the end of the film. It is a different, longer version which was how it originally sounded. I wrote it with Chris in LA back in 2007. I mixed it in surround sound at Air later that year.

We then trimmed it down for the album version, and Rik and I mixed it to normal stereo."

Biutiful is such a great movie, it makes me happy to hear that's where he got it from.

Daniel vs Coldplay vs Me

Sorry if there is a similar tread going on but I couldn't find it. And I'm not even sure if this is allowed on here. If not, sorry :(

Now here is my rant,

This goes out to all the "Daniel"

--Just because you don't like 1 song doesn't mean that they lost their touch.

--There is NOTHING wrong with sampling and being inspired. The boys can only do much with the few guitars chords and piano notes. There is a limit. Also there are a least 100 billions songs out there so anything that you hear now might be similar to something else. Right now 99% of the songs on radio and itunes are from samples. You'll be surprised with how many of your favorite songs are "inspired"

--You shouldn't call yourself a "Coldplayer" if you go out and judge and dismiss your band after just 1 song, at least wait till you hear the full album.

--If you want to hear Parachutes again, just play it on your Ipod. Don't ask them to make the same album over and over again.

And I'm sure you have evolved since 2000. I'll be really sad for you if you haven't. As the boys grow and change with age and experiences, their sound will evolve as well.

I already feel better :)

Good job completely missing the point.

1. He never even mentioned sampling or plagiarism in his letter. Thus your whole response is moot. His whole complaint was that the song was poorly written, which is a popular opinion that should be acknowledged. You never defended the song, so his question is completely valid.

2. He didn't dismiss the band, the whole reason he was writing the letter was to ask if their new direction was somehow consistent with the sound of ETIAW.

3. Furthermore, he never called himself a "coldplayer" (which refers to forum goers, not fans in general), nor did he say he wanted them to sound like parachutes. These rguments are not started by differing opinions, but people who don't even care to understand what others are saying, like you've done here.

3 was correct, but you missed the point. By "Coldplayer", he meant Coldplay fan. If this Daniel isn't a fan then he shouldn't be asking the Oracle questions (probably). So he is a Coldplay fan, not a Coldplayer though.

Daniel did dismiss the band based on one song and he did get upset about the sampling.
