LOVED the question about the guys at a party!

but i wish the oracle answered the voting question a bit more directly. yeah, obviously chris is concerned about the outcome of the election, but i'm quite curious to know if he took the citizenship test so he can vote. i wouldn't be at all surprised if he did :D

I think if he had, the press would have reported it.

Don't you have to live out there so long before you can take the test? And wouldn't that mean him giving up his UK passport?

Also can you become a US citizen if you already have a criminal record?

you can get dual citizenship & have 2 passports. but have no idea how that works

Also can you become a US citizen if you already have a criminal record?

Does he??? I assuming it's something Pap related???

I think they're really harsh on people with drugs offences, but I'm not sure they're bothered about other stuff

Yeah. He's been arrested a few times for pap related incidents, he definitely got a record for the incident in Australia.

Well my friends' partner has a criminal record from when he was younger (not drug related) and his dad lives in America and she says that he always has a nightmare at customs just going to visit him for a few days.

A friend of my Dad has an Irish passport and getting in when the IRA was still bombing used to be a problem.

Still think the press would have reported it, if he had done it

I think the question about Obama completely misses the point, as does the answer. Who becomes President affects the whole world hugely, and therefore everyone has an interest in it, whether they realise it or not, or even care or not. You don't have to have a US vote to feel the need to try to influence the outcome of this election, just a conscience.

True, and he was vocal about Kerry last time around (let's hope he's not a jinx!!!)

What is Dual Citizenship: Dual citizenship means that an individual is a citizen of two countries at the same time. It is also possible to be a citizen of three or more countries. However, every country has its own laws regarding dual citizenship. Some countries allow it; others do not, while some have no particular laws regarding dual citizenship. Dual citizenship is not something that can be applied for. It is a process that happens when a person becomes a citizen of another country, in addition to his or her country of birth. Dual citizenship occurs automatically to some individuals, for example: a child is born in the United States to foreign parents. In this example this child has U.S. Dual Citizenship since the child is automatically a citizen of the United States and a citizen of its parent's home country. The same applies to children of U.S. citizens born abroad where the child is both a U.S. citizen and a citizen of the country of birth.

US Dual Citizenship: The U.S. government allows dual citizenship. United States law recognizes U.S. Dual Citizenship, but the U.S. government does not encourage it is as a matter of policy due to the problems that may arise from it. It is important to understand that a foreign citizen does NOT lose his or her citizenship when becoming a U.S. citizen. An individual that becomes a U.S. citizen through naturalization may keep his or her original citizenship. However, as some countries do not recognize dual citizenship, it is important to consider it carefully before applying for U.S. citizenship.

Dual citizenship is a complex issue and it is important that you understand that there also obligations and not only benefits that comes with being a dual citizen. Being a citizen of two countries means that you need to obey the laws of both countries, including paying taxes and serving in the military (if required by any of the countries).

soooo both Apple & Moses have dual citizenship, if I've read that correctly.

I agree!

Do you need sole US citizenship to become US President? I know you need to have been born a US citizen not simply be a naturalised citizen, but not sure if that means sole citizenship or includes dual.

yeah, you have to be born here to be president. apple's out, unfortunately, as is chris :P

i don't know how long you have to live here to be able to take the test, but i think the rules might bend if you own property here AND are married to an american AND have american kids, as chris does :P

i didn't know kids of americans born in other countries were american, necessarily... i guess it makes sense, but i never thought about it, really.

Actually born in the country? Wow! Come on Arnie get that sorted out quicksmart, we want Apple for President 2049 :P

I'm pretty sure they are, that's how most other countries work it. The US is one of only a few nations I've ever heard of where being born there guarantees citizenship - usually it's determined by the parents' country/ies of origin.

If you're from the States, btw, ever notice all the heavily pregnant Japanese ladies coming through customs? It's not just for the shopping, though I'm sure that's an attraction too!!

Same in Australia. My parents were born elsewhere but sine I was born here, I was immediately an Australian citizen

Q. Hey dude. My question is:

What would be the weirdest question you would ask and be able to answer yourself?

The Oracle replies:

Well there are countless weird questions that I know the answer to, that's part & parcel of being an Oracle so how about one I can't answer? I dont want to be morbid but hey, it is Halloween in 2 days so I guess it would have to be when am I going to die?

Q. Hi Oracle,

You now how people speak of decades as the 90's, 80's or 10's, for example. How do you refer to the decade before the "10's" without saying it like you are referring to the whole century (ex. 1900's)?

Thanks.

The Oracle replies:

They're known as the Noughties, not to be confused with the naughties as often happens. Unless of course one spends the entire 00's being naughty that is.
