  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Dear Oracle, I really need to know more about the Lost Video Competition. I have been thinking of ideas and getting things ready to start my project. I checked out the dates when Coldplay will be playing in the UK. But I need to know if the person who wins will get to choose what day they can make it, 'cuz I have exams until mid Dec. and I really don't want to spend time making this video if I won't be able to go anyway.. please answer me! this may be the only chance for me to ever get to see my favourite band of all time play! Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

I don't want to seem pessimistic, see it as realistic, but surely this is something to worry about IF you win? As we say, let's cross that bridge when we come to it...

Q. Why in every album of Coldplay, there's always a "color" song. Yellow, Green Eyes, White Shadows, and finally Violet Hill....what next?

What is the different of Life in Technicolor and The Escapist? These songs have the same intro..

(Sorry for my bad english).

The Oracle replies:

So there is. There's no reason for it and it's definitely not a deliberate decision but I guess life is a colourful place!

The second part of your question has already been answered so rather than answer again, I will just say Jon Hopkins*** and hope you can find out from that.

Q. Hi, uncle O!

I Know the answer to that weird question you made! Someday, my friend, someday! The real question is what will you do while your still around? Look at me for example, i`m going to change the world. Wanna help?

The Oracle replies:

That is indeed the answer but to be honest I do believe in living your life to the maximum. I think it's better to live with a sense of adventure, going after what you want, having self-belief, bettering yourself without regret and without missing opportunities. Life is for living and also for the living so we all may as well make the best of it for however long we're here and help others do the same who are less fortunate.

Right, that's deep enough for one session!

Q. Coldplay has been saying that Life in Technicolor has a full version with lyrics, but I feel like that song and The Escapist are very similar, are they one in the same?

The Oracle replies:

The album version of Life in Technicolor has an intro before it starts which is indeed the same as the backing music of The Escapist. What you hear is actually an adapted version of Jon Hopkin's track Light Through The Veins. For those who don't know The Escapist is a hidden track tagged onto the end of Death And All His Friends. Anyway, yes there is a full version of Life in Technicolor with lyrics that's about 2 minutes longer than the instrumental version. Very nice it is too. Sure you'll get to hear it one day...

Q. If Coldplay were hosting a party, which of the four band members would be:

a) DJ?

b) bartender?

c) off in the corner caught up in an intellectual conversation?

d) last man standing?

The Oracle replies:

Super question Raymond!

a) Will

b) Guy

c) Chris

d) Jonny

I Love this ! :D

Q. Hello. we were recently priviledged enough to stumble across Coldplay's "Hardest Part" video and to let Barbara the 84 year old dancer into our lives. Is there anywhere that we might obtain some further information about the legend herself (and perhaps a tad about Spencer her tanned, g-string clad companion)? thanks oracle, you're a champ. Whisp and Thong xxx

The Oracle replies:

That video was made 16 years after Barbara (R.I.P) and Spencer appeared on the Attitudes show. There's not much information about the pair, which is a shame, but you can see a variation of the routine here.

Q. Is the song Viva la Vida about playing Risk? The second verse "I used to roll the dice/feel the fear in my enemies eyes..." seems to very much allude to the best-selling board game. Care to confirm or Deny?

The Oracle replies:

Deny, deny, deny! Nor is it about Monopoly, Snakes & Ladders and not even the murderous Cleudo.

Q. Hi I am 14 years old and am entering the Lost? contest. I have my own ways of interpreting the song however I do not want to lose the message the writer is trying to get across. in other words what does the song mean to Coldplay? Any input?

The Oracle replies:

Don't worry about that. The point of the competition is to find your own interpretation and what it means to YOU.

Q. I have a beuatiful black cat, she is mischievous, intelligent, great oracle colud you please choose the best name for her?

The Oracle replies:

I quite like Molly, short for Molasses which is dark and sweet. In fact Treacle is another good name because not only is that also Molasses but it's a term of endearment for females used by Cockneys.

Q. Dear oracle, who is the most important person in the world?

The Oracle replies:

That'd be you wouldn't it? My point is that I am the most important person in my world and I don't think it's selfish to be that way, I find it can be very productive and beneficial to everyone else when I consider myself first. I'm sure parents would say their children but as a childless adult - it's me.

Q. This is my third question please answer this one. I recently found out that Rilo Kiley opened for Coldplay in the 2005 tour. Did Coldplay choose them? Or what? Do they know each other personally? And how did they meet?

Thanks oracle

The Oracle replies:

The bands share the same management and that's how they met and also how the tour came about.

Q. dear oracle...

why exactly is it that in a venua the seats all the way in the are reffered to as the nosebleed section?

The Oracle replies:

Ooh I think you missed a bit out... the seats all the way at the top... are referred to nosebleed seats because It's common for high altitudes to cause nosebleeds and some of those seats are extremely high.

yes it is hahahahaha

damn... i hadn't send in anything for a while and then just felt like sending in a simpel question.... should;ve asked for something we really wanted ....

weird btw i checked my message before i send it... it was complete... now... it's not!

Q. Dear great oracle, I dont know if this question was already made, I just want to know about the non oficial cd or recopilation named "Castles" , it is true that it came from some Coldplay fans on the web?, what do the band think about this? I just found it really cool and amazing!!

thanks!

The Oracle replies:

Castles is a bootleg CD. A bootleg is an unofficial release and is therefore not endorsed by the band or their label. In fact, they're illegal! They frequently start with a fan gathering recordings or live versions of tracks and making a compilation and that's what happened here. The problem with Castles is it's often mistaken for an official release. When it first appeared it had a different cover to the one they've got now, they've made it look very professional and used the official font (at the time). As it's being sold it's a total copyright infringement.

Q. I'm entering the Lost!-competition, but I'm only 16, and doesn't have an extremly advanced understanding of English. So I have difficulties understanding the meaning of the song, and that makes it hard to shoot a video with the right theme.

First I thought the song was about love, and wanting to see the real person behind a mask or something.

Please answer me ...

The Oracle replies:

Honestly, don't worry about the themes of the song; just make the video you want to. There are a few that have come in that don't relate to the song at all and they're great so it's not at all important.

Q. Dear Oracle:

I dont want bother you, but I must comment that I'm so tired of the relationship that I have with my mom. She does not understand there are different people in the whole world and in our house, and is impossible that all of us meet her understandable expectations. In fact, my brothers and I are ported better than our friends and other guys that I know of our age. But she dont want let us talk and be listened. I can't maintain my relationship with her under control, all the time, it seems to me that I am going to get crazy (more than it already). In reality all mothers are devoted only to annoy?, what can I do to dont have more problems, or make she changes? Love ya, this site is very funny.

The Oracle replies:

Family relationships can sometimes be very difficult but where we can choose our friends we cannot choose our relatives. So, whilst you are still living at home and are of a certain age its wise to hold your tongue and accept that a lot of the time, parents are right even if we disagree. It doesnt mean you have to agree with her but until you have your own place it will mean she will voice her opinions in her own home and so its best to try not to get drawn into any arguments as hard as that will be.

Not all mothers are sent to test us but the ones that may seem like they are, are probably trying their best to guide you. Maybe she thinks that when youre a parent youll realize that she was right. And you know what? She might even be right about THAT!

Q. Dear Oracle,

There are two things I really wondered about:

first thing is that Chris sometimes speaks German (when he told about the contact with Kraftwerk ("Ich bin ein Coldplayer") and he counted the rhythm before White Shadows at Glastonbury 2005 ("zwei, drei, vier"). So is there any relationship between Chris and Germany?

Second thing you know about (because you know everything) is what Coldplay thinks about the song "Brothers & Sisters". It has been recorded AND released thrice, so i wondered if, to Coldplay'S mind, it might be the best song ever written.

Thanks

The Oracle replies:

Actually no there isn't. The Kraftwerk reference makes sense because the band are obviously German but the counting at Glastonbury must have been a spontaneous outburst. Maybe he'd just listened to Vertigo by U2 and decided to opt for his own version of counting in.

Brothers & Sisters hasn't been released three times. It has been re-issued and that is different. It was released by a small independent label so has nothing to do with the band so again the answer is no, they don't think it's the best song ever written.

Updates for November 5th

Q. Why did you have to yell 'Barack Obama' at the end of your song on SNL? You lost a lot of fans (including me) with that statement. People listen to music to escape from all of the junk and the politics. I just didn't see the point after all you are from the UK what does it matter?

Q. Hi oracle, could you help me please? Being a lady painter/decorator, i go onto construction sites which entails me to wear a hardhat. i need to replace the one i have and would love to get a girly pink hardhat. where could i buy one in the uk? I cant find one ANYWHERE!! Thanks!xx if you can help!

The Oracle replies:

There are a few companies that do them and it seems they're more popular in the States. Pink hard hats were available for a minimum donation of 10 (excl P&P) from Melanie Salter tel: 0113 237 3017 with funds benefiting Breast Cancer Havens Yorkshire Appeal so get in touch to see if they still have them.

Failing that try here or here.

Q. Hey Oracle,

Exactly how many types of the song lost are there? I've heard three but I think there might be more?

The Oracle replies:

There are 4 versions of the song:

Lost! (album version)

Lost? (acoustic version)

Lost@ (live at Chicago)

Lost+ (with Jay-Z)

The Oracle replies:

You are of course entitled to your opinion, as are we, that is the nation, the band and me. I'd normally agree with your sentiment but in this case you have to remember that although we may be British and cannot vote in your election, whom you vote in does have an effect on us, on the entire human race in fact. And if you don't agree with that, just look how many loved ones are posted in Iraq, which essentially came from a president we didn't vote for either. All I'm saying is that this election was important to people the world over.

Whatever your political stance, this was an historic outcome and we will now see what effect this decision has on the world too.

Q. dear mr oracle as you seem to know everything and has the solution to all i'm having a little problem as i listen to coldplay's viva la vida i like to increase the sound volume a little especially on Lost! i like it loud so that makes my parents go crazy on me and i swear that so far i never listened to the song just one time with no interrupting !!! what should i do?? !!

The Oracle replies:

Get yourself a pair of headphones (and an adaptor for the stereo if needed) and listen to it that way but don't blast it too loud, as you'll cause permanent damage! Part of the child/parent relationship is playing music loud until you're told to turn it down just as part of a parent/child relationship is constantly asking their offspring to reduce volumes. It's part of the circle of life my friend.

Q. Dear O.

The new tracklist of Prospekt's March includes a song named "Now my feet wont touch the ground! Is it a remix of the old coldplay song "No more keeping my feet on the ground ". Are they related?

Thank you.

The Oracle replies:

This is a popular question but no, they're not related. If you listen to all of Coldplay's tracks you will often see running and recurring themes: spider webs, bubbles and ladders to the sun to name a few.

And this one's mine...

Q. Is the reason you've ignored my question "When will we get to hear Lhuna?" fifteen times, that you simply don't know the answer? I'm not trying to be rude, I just really want to hear that song and I think my question is as valid post of the ones answered. Much love, Alison

The Oracle replies:

I admire your tenacity I really do and I'm aware that you have repeatedly sent that question. I don't answer every question and by now I was hoping people would see a pattern emerging. Some answers are being kept quiet as there's a time and a place for announcements and this isn't it. Anchorman reports news and so any questions about the future that I know the answer to may not be appropriate to reveal. Patience Alison is a virtue and you strike me as the virtuous kind.
