After a few listens it is indeed Norfolk.

And poor Oracle, having to answer painfully obvious questions.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Is it also a coincidence that when I see the Guy puppet I feel a bout of nausea..?

Q. I noticed that Coldplay's new video for Life in Technicolor ii contained puppets of the band. Beck's video for Nausea contained puppets as well. Did the band take this idea from Beck, or was it just a coincidence? Please let me know, this is really bugging me.

The Oracle replies:

In fact Supergrass did it before Beck and I'm sure they weren't the first either! No one holds the exclusive copyright to use puppets in videos; it's just a co-incidence.

So that's where that freaky-looking SATC pic came from!

Q. Dear Oracle, I know that many fans will ask this question, but given that I am from a country a bit far away and the post is REALLY slow, I just wanna make sure that my postcards made it to the band, and if they did, what the impressions were... Me and my friends sent about 4-5 postcards and one of them, the most authentic one was a picture of the guys as the girls from Sex and The City - with their faces instead of the girls'. The other authentic one has butterflies which say Serbian Reign of Love and Lovers in Serbia... Is there a way that you could at least tell me whether they got there on time? It would mean the world to me... Thanks a lot... Much love from Serbia.

Milan...

The Oracle replies:

Yes those cards definitely did make it. Apparently the Sex and the City card raised some laughs!

We can't confirm we received every one, as there were so many, therefore this is the only question I can answer about it.

Why are people so obsessed with the idea that Coldplay copies other band's ideas/music??

THEY DON'T! :dozey:

Q. I heard you on "60 Minutes" last night say you were looking for a Christmas song. My grandmother Genevieve Brooks wrote 'Christmas Time' which was copyrighted in December 1956 and it is so beautiful. I would like to send it/scan email it so you could see it. Is there an email address I can send it to? Thanks for your time.

Maureen, Daytona Beach, FL

The Oracle replies:

That's very sweet of you Maureen but Chris didn't say he was looking for a Christmas song by/from anyone else. In fact, did you not hear his little Christmas song?

Haha, worth the try I guess

Oooh, we've upset someone...

Q. Ok, so, why have I not ever heard of this postcard sending shinagagy?! I would of LOVED to send Coldplay a postcard from my country and I check coldplay.com virtually everyday but I NEVER saw an anouncement or anything saying that you can send postcards to coldplay. Please, please oracle- can we still send them postcards and if so whats there address?

The Oracle replies:

It wasn't anything to do with the band or therefore, Coldplay.com. Fans who gather on the fansite Coldplaying.com's forum arranged it. It was a one-off project called Postcards From far Away (after the Coldplay song of the same name) and the fans also decided how long it would run for; the last posting date was many weeks ago.

No, I'm afraid you can't still send them; as you see from the video, the cards have been delivered.

Q. Dear Oracle,

First of all I would like to say that Coldplay's music is beyond amazing and I would like to thank the members for making such incredible music that truly inspires so many people. My question is in regard to The Bakery. I recently went backpacking through Europe (I went to the Louvre and OF COURSE, I took a picture with Delacroix's Liberty Leading The People, which is absolutely stunning!) and I also went to London. After checking out all the typical tourist sites, I was determined to hop on a train, get off on Hampstead Heath and walk to The Bakery. My questions is does the band really use The Bakery? I took some pictures there and since I'm such a huge fan, some of my friends say that they really don't use The Bakery at all and to be honest, I want to prove them wrong and who else to help me out than the amazing Oracle! =)

I would also like to add that one of my most cherished memories from my time near The Bakery was that since it was very chilly, I stopped in a small diner and as I was waiting for my hot chocolate, the Viva La Vida video started playing and it just added to the fact that I felt so close to Coldplay and their music.

Thank you for your time and have a lovely day =)

The Oracle replies:

Yes they do use the Bakery; it's their HQ. They have a studio there and offices; it's where they work.

They might have been there the day you took photos but as we ask fans to respect their workspace, I applaud you for not attempting to find out. It's nice there was a sign that made you feel close as indeed you were.

Q. Hello there all knowing wise one.

I have a little cheeky question to ask, I have been so so so! Lucky to get tickets to see Coldplay at The War Child concert. I was wondering will Coldplay or any members of the band be doing any autographs or pictures after the show??? Even if it means putting something in for the cause? Big, Massive fan. Vicky x x x

The Oracle replies:

It's highly unlikely given that it's going to be such a late finish tonight. Beforehand they'll be leaving the Brit Awards to go to straight to the venue so there won't be any time for hanging around either side of the show. To anyone who is lucky enough to be going please make sure you've arranged safe plans to get home afterwards.

Another day, another Postcards question...

Q. Dear Oracle,

I was disappointed with your handling of the young man from the UAE's request to send Coldplay a postcard. You suggested it is too late to send a the band a postcard. It certainly is not too late, it's more a question of 1. what's the address 2. will it be promptly thrown in the garbage by the support staff. Anyway, the point is that nothing is impossible. I'm surprised that you'd suggest otherwise...

The Oracle replies:

I tried to email you but it seems you used a false address... I'm afraid you have misunderstood. An address for sending regular mail can be found in our tags on this very Oracle section of the site.

But Yusef asked specifically about a project that ended in December!

That is what I replied to as you can be reminded of below. Sorry for confusion but of course anyone can write to the band although we prefer emails.

Q. Do you feel that this 60 minutes quote is accurate of Coldplay?

"You won't catch this band wearing tight leather pants or snorting drugs off the back of a stripper"

The Oracle replies:

I laughed out loud when I heard that on the show. He's right I can't see them doing either, they're just not that sort of band! It's a sad clich though I am not sure the image of leather pants and cocaine necessarily go hand in hand, it's all very Spinal Tap!

What sort of answer did he expect???

Q. Why oh why didnt the band win a Brit award! Was gutted!

The Oracle replies:

Well that's the way it goes sometimes. Iron Maiden have been around for over 25 years and have a hardcore fan base that were voting for the Best Live Act category. Let's be honest, they don't get a lot of opportunity to win at the Brits so it was always gonna be tough. Plus we weren't just competing with the band, but also Eddie!

Coldplay have always done so well at the Brits but this year it was someone else's turn. To see a band such as Elbow finally get some recognition was great! Duffy had an amazing year too. The Girls Aloud's single was stiff competition.

As you may guess by the fact they have all been invited to perform with Coldplay on tour, they have the band's support and congratulations.

It's always fantastic to win but performing, being nominated and taking part are great too.

Here's an interesting one...

This is Oracle vs. Anchorman. I think they were, he says not. I think I am right. I am usually aren't I?

I think the first half sounded live and the second half didn't

Q. Hello dearest oracle :)

I was wondering why there isn't a search engine for these questions? It would be easier for us to know if you've answered something before :) That would also lead to less questions of the same thing for you to read :)we would just search on something that we are curious about, and if you have not answered such a question, we could try and submit it :D

xoxo

The Oracle replies:

Tags are the new search engines... That should help and it's nice of you to ask seeing as though someone asked me today why the band are called Coldplay... Tags baby, tags.

Coldplay... fun for all the family!

Q. Dear Oracle

We are taking our kids (aged 13 and 9) to the Perth concert next weekend, and my daughter was wondering if the Oracle has any advice for parents not wishing to embarrass their children at the concert ..... or should the kids not just be extremely grateful they're even getting to go see Coldplay?

Any handy hints would be gratefully received.

The Oracle replies:

Not only should they be grateful for seeing the band but they get the bonus of laughing at their parents too! Win win situation surely?

I took my parents to see Coldplay in December, both turn 70 this year. I had my Pa on one side frowning at the volume of the intro music (to which he asked, "Is this Jay Zed? You don't like this do you?") And my Ma was singing her head off at the other side of me (not to Jay-Z). It was priceless so tell your children to enjoy themselves and that goes for you as parents too!
