Q. Dear Oracle, if you know all things, then you will know why you havent answered my question about misheard lyrics!? (I think you are maybe more for pro-motion than inform-ation, yes?) Still, would like to see the OFFICIAL lyrics to Vida, as they are clearly wrong all over the Web. Thank you.

The Oracle replies:

If you'd sent this a week ago I could forgive you but as it was in the last 24 hours I'm finding it hard. There's now a discography on this very site so you can check the official lyrics easily without accusing me of promotion. Then again, I just promoted the discography so I can't win this argument...

Q. Dear Oracle,

I'm a 15 year old girl who dosn't know what to do. me and my best friend both got gifts for each other. she got me this really cool tee she made. but I didn't get her anything. I have this other friend who had 2 Coldplay tickets. so I said I would take them because my friend (the one who made me the tee) is a Coldplay fan. So my other friend (with the tickets) liked the tee and he said if I gave him the tee I could get the Coldplay tickets. So I gave him the tee and got 2 tickets to see Coldplay. then when I told her how I got the tickets she got mad because she now thinks that I don't care about our friendship. What should I do?

get the tee back or go see coldplay with someone else? PLease write back!!

The Oracle replies:

I think you need to talk to your friend again and be honest with her. Explain that your intention was to do something nice for her. You say you got gifts for each other but go on to say that you hadn't got her anything. I know feelings of guilt can rear their head when such things happen but perhaps giving her present away was a mistake made in haste. I think you need to get the t-shirt back as it was a gift from her but think of other ways to keep the tickets. Perhaps she could make another one for the original holder of the tickets, that way you will have her gift and she will have yours. It'd be a shame for you to both miss the show over this.

Q. Hi, Oracle I haave a ticket to the Coldplay concert in Bergen. Will there be people that sells Coldplay stuff (t-shirts or posters) on the concert? And when, before it starts or after?? Thanks =)

The Oracle replies:

The merchandise stalls will be easy to find. At Koengen I'd imagine they'll be plenty both outside before you surrender your ticket and inside with it being an outdoor venue.

With arena gigs they're usually just inside where the refreshments are located.

Programme sellers patrol the inner sanctum once you're in the show area.

Q. Besides being an Oracle, would you consider yourself a therapist? Someone people always tells their problems to?

The Oracle replies:

It just so happens I have some counselling training so have knowledge of therapy. I'm qualified in coaching too so that helps. Truth be told, people have always come to me with their problems, being an Oracle you get that, and it's something I enjoy helping with if I can. I just always hope people find their own answers from within.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I'm going to post this question every day until you answer it, so save us both the trouble and just tell me; which song does Chris sing at the end of Yellow in blog #74?

Thanks

The Oracle replies:

It was the John Farnham hit You're the Voice from back in 1986. John was born in England but emigrated to Australia with his family when he was a child.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Just looking through the fantastic new discography page on the Coldplay website, and looking through all the singles released on the Viva La Vida album, but where's Lhuna? Was it a single as such? It's the only Coldplay song that I can't find.

Thanks,

Mark

(Looking forward to seeing Coldplay at Wembley in 190 days - 18/09!!!)

The Oracle replies:

It wasn't a Coldplay single per se, it was a collaboration and as you'll see in the discography, collaborations are not listed.

Q. I just heard yesterday a great Christian song. I called the radio station and they told me that that was an Coldplay "spanish" song. Where I can find it if it is true?

The Oracle replies:

There aren't really any "Christian" songs but due to the fact Viva la Vida has a Spanish title and has religious references that could lead the listener to believe it is a Christian song.

Q. Dear Oracle,

A friend of mine sent me a song with the title "Swallowed in the Sea" so I assumed it was it, but when I came to hear it, it wasn't Swallowed in the Sea at all, my friend had clearly made a mistake. I really loved this "mysterious song" and I would love to know the title and what album it's on. The lyrics go like this:

"Well I had a girl, she was the best around,

I was in love, now I'm just hanging out.

Burning in the sun, losing my mind,

Hearts break in the summer time..."

Please I'd love to know

The Oracle replies:

This has been doing the rounds for years wrongly credited as a Coldplay track. It is in fact Burning in the Sun by Blue Merle and not in fact by Coldplay at all.

Q. Hello!

At the Sydney concert I went to there was a dancer before Coldplay came on. He danced to the Jay Z song and the classical piece (he was really good at both!). He came on stage sweeping, with the spot light on him and I was wondering if he was a hired dancer or a roadie who can dance? Also, was he at all the concert dates?

P.S. I was at Sound Relief yesterday: Coldplay + John Farnham = absolutely amazing!! What a great day!

The Oracle replies:

The dancing roadie is called Wayne and he's a lampie, which is a term used for the lighting staff. He's become a regular feature at the current shows.

Q. Dear all knowing Oracle.

In the photos from Auckland it looks like the puppet of Chris has some extra loops or something attached to his feet, what are they?

Also, did they pay adult or childs prices to get the puppets up the tower?

The Oracle replies:

There are some small rods attached to his feet to help manoeuvre the puppet during the video shoot. The adult who accompanied the puppets was the only paying customer because, er, they're not real. In the words of Brian Conley; "It's a puppet!"

Q. Dearest Oracle,

This question is killing me and I must know the answer. Who started the Cellphone ColdWAVE??

Thanks.

The Oracle replies:

It was actually the band's idea. During their acoustic set on stage C, Chris announced to the crowd that they wanted to try something that had never been done before as a special event to mark their first show in New Zealand for 6 years. Everyone with a cell phone was asked to switch the light on and then he instructed the audience where to start and what to do. The lights were lowered and Chris counted down to the start of the first mobile Mexican wave.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I have been unemployed for several months now and each day that goes by I lose a bit of my hope. I went to the concert yesterday and I had an awesome time. I started crying so much in Death and all his friends... just come over, be patient and don't worry....

Is this a sign? Am I going to find job soon? Will I get married in the near future? Please Oracle, throw in some light to my troubled mind, please help meeeeee!!!!

The Oracle replies:

I understand what a difficult time this must be for you right now, but don't give up hope. Sometimes it may seem like hope is all you have but it's better than nothing.

The lyrics clearly resonate with you but take heed; "don't worry". Rather than ask if it's a sign, take it as a sign.

Sit yourself down, take some deep breaths and with as calm a mind as possible write down what it is you're looking for.

Answer the following questions:

What are you doing that is not working that you need to do less of?

What are you currently doing that you could do more of?

What are you not doing that you could try to see if it works?

Rather than let it get the better of you, take each day as it comes, as a new opportunity. Have a list of things to try and stay pro-active.

Try not to think too much about whether you're going to get married soon, one thing at a time.

Q. Dear Oracle, I have an interesting question for you. As a Lampie (or light technician) myself, I really like the light bulb effect in Fix You in the Twisted Logic tour! So how did they do it and what was the idea behind it? And what happend to it in this tour? Will it ever return during one of the tours/concerts? I hope you will answer my question! Greetings from Holland!

The Oracle replies:

During preparations for the Twisted Logic Tour Chris drew sketches of various ideas; the swinging light bulb being one of them. At rehearsals the light proved difficult to integrate into the set. It wasn't originally planned to use it during Fix You but the more practice, the more it seemed to fit perfectly well with the climax of the song. There was no turning back. However as is usual with tour production, it's rare to repeat exact effects with the exception of large balloons during Yellow which were brought back as they worked so well and give a great audience participation opportunity.

Q. Hi dear Oracle,

I always believed and I still do, that guys are playing everything live...but from current tour I have seen many performances and I really liked it! :o) BUT, in songs like Viva la vida or Lovers in Japan there are some parts (strings in VLV or the sound I cannot describe in LIJ) - and those parts sound always the same, as if they were pre-prepared and recorded (and of course I can't see who should be playing those parts), do you know what I mean?

I can't wait for your answer...

R

The Oracle replies:

I do know what you mean. The guys are playing their parts live and as you can probably work out, they aren't able to play every single sound we hear on the album as there's rather a lot going on. It's usual to have pre-recorded parts in these circumstances. There have been occasions where live music was played off stage. For example, Matt McGinn used to play Chris' guitar part in Yellow during one tour, as Chris decided he wanted to run around the stage more.

Q. Oh humble Oracle, I am so confused and at loss for what to do! everyone says my boyfriend is a hustler and he is using me for my money (mind you, which isnt a lot!) and I dont know if I should break up with him for it. I have liked him for such a long time, and since we have been only going out for 3 weeks I feel I havent given him a chance!

p.s maybe i should seek revenge and make him buy something insanely expensive for me?

YOU ARE THE BESTT say hello to the boys for me ;)

The Oracle replies:

There's rather a lot to cover in my response. Firstly, if you haven't got much money, how can he be using you for it? As you say, 3 weeks isn't long and perhaps not long enough to know him well. You say you don't know whether to break up with him for "it" but it seems you don't know exactly what "it" is.

I truly believe in following your gut instinct. Ask yourself what YOU feel, what you think, not 'everyone' else. It's great they're looking out for you but ultimately the decision lies with you. If you really like him and he has given you no reason to believe he is using you, why not give him the benefit of the doubt?

If it turns out that you don't feel he's being straight with you, you can always re-think your decision.

The oracle is really nice again today. There is this question from a girl whose father died, very sad. But the Oracle gives a really nice reply. I hope that it can help the girl.
