  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Lovely Oracle,

I've saw here a question about a sketch at the 2005 EMA, featuring Chris and Borat...

Where do I can watch this??

Hugs

The Oracle replies:

Here you go, Chris Martin in a [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdEafjlJsPM]brief[/ame] clip. I made a joke there but not sure it will translate very well..

Q. Dear Oracle,

Can Chris do flips like in the LITii Video clip or is that why they used puppets???

from jess

The Oracle replies:

Supple as Chris is, he doesn't do flips or the splits but that's not why puppets were used.

On the subject of the video, there have been a few more questions...

Crew members in the video aren't modelled on the real crew so no, you can't spot Roadie #42.

I can't believe I'm about to talk butts but someone DID ask, this also means that no-one had to show their plumber's crack (we call it a builder's crack here)!

(Jen wasn't that your question? :D)

Q. Ola Oh Oracle!

Wondering if you could help with a dilemma. As over a million of other people did, I watched the inauguration of Obama. And I fell in love with the piece played by the quartet with Yo Yo Ma. Is there anyway whats so ever I could get it, or at least something like it?

Thanks

Viva La COLDPLAY!

The Oracle replies:

Yo-Yo Ma along with Itzhak Perlman on violin, Gabriela Montero on piano and Anthony McGill on clarinet performed the new work composed by John Williams, Air and Simple Gifts.

As you love it so, I sourced [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQzZEK7jVaE]this clip[/ame] for you. Enjoy!

Q. I just noticed when watching the Life in Technicolor ii video that Chris starts singing quite a bit earlier than he does on Prospekt's March; straight after the drums start. Is there any particular reason for this?

The Oracle replies:

The majority of singles that are released are Radio Edit versions of the original. They're usually under 4 minutes and as the name suggests, tailored for radio airplay. Some songs lose part of their intro (as in the case of LiTii), some fade out sooner at the end and others are a complete remix.

Q. Dear Oracle

I have been wondering now, for a few weeks, wasn't the collaboration with Kylie Minogue-Lhuna- released on the first of December? I can't find it anywhere for digital download. Can you please help me out here? It sounds really good.

The Oracle replies:

Lhuna was released as a digital download via (Red) Wire which launched on 1st December 2008. As it's for a great cause I wouldn't want to discourage people from supporting by posting a YouTube link, but you can hear it on there if you just use their search option.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Coldplay got a major start in the US with Trouble. But out of curiousity, was there a time that Trouble was not the mellow piano ballad that we're used to hearing now (released on the Parachutes LP)? And if so, is there a way that I can find a copy of the song? Thank you for your time. :D

The Oracle replies:

I know not of a time that Trouble was not a mellow piano ballad... There has only ever been this version. The only other time I have heard Trouble played another way was a very short clip on their Live 2003 DVD of a sound check but it was never performed.

Q. Hi Oracle, has Coldplay ever been to Leicester? I woz wondering where I could get my hands on some Coldplay merchandise in shops,I cant buy online coz I haven't got a credit card and I'm a really big fan of Coldplay yet I have no posters or anthything,

pleeeeeeeaaaaasssseeee !!! help me thanks

The Oracle replies:

It seems 2000/01 were the years to catch Coldplay round your way. They played FOUR times in 2000!

January 21st as part of the NME tour at De Montfort University, June 15th they played at Princess Charlotte August 2nd at Radio 1's One Big Sunday at Victoria Park and finally October 4th at DMU again.

They returned for One Big Sunday in 2001 on 2nd September.

All the official Coldplay merch is available in the online shop (maybe you could ask someone to get it for you and you give them the cash?) or at the live shows, if you're lucky enough to be going to one of the U.K dates later this year...

Roadie #42 is back! You can read his blog to find out what happened to Will. Your English is very good!

Q. If Coldplay are British, why when they named their song "Life in Technicolor" they spelt it the American way and not the English way?

The Oracle replies:

You can opt for a British spelling with a u but Technicolor is usually spelt the American/trademark way

Q. kk, 2 questions.

#1: My dad won't believe me that the "dancing politicians" version of Violet Hill on youtube is official. Would you mind giving me proof of this so i can win this arguement once and for all?

#2 Why is there a delay in posting the LiT ii music video to iTunes? I want to buy it so i can show all my buddies...

The Oracle replies:

#1 Yes it is. The same chap who filmed the Bigger Stronger video made it. Seems both band and director have done pretty well. Mat Whitecross

also directed the Lost!/Lost? videos amongst others.

#2 Although the single isnt officially released its on there.

Q. If I were to write a book, do I have permission to have references to Coldplay's songs? Is this copyright infringement?

The Oracle replies:

Yes you do, youd need permission from their publisher (Universal), as they dont retain their own copyright. Even if Chris were writing a book hed have to credit the publisher for their kind permission to reproduce their lyrics!

Q. Dear Oracle,

Another website lists songs used in TV shows. According to this website, there is supposed to be a Coldplay song called, It's Not Easy To Be Me. I have nearly ALL The Coldplay single B-sides and have never heard or this song. If it exists, where can it be found?

The Oracle replies:

The song exists but it isn't written and/or performed by Coldplay. There are many mistakes when it comes to songs, Im always getting asked about Under the Tracks by Creeper Lagoon. I dont know why because it sounds nothing like them!

Q. So I just watched LIT2 and its really awesome.

I noticed that Chris, or well the doll playing Chris has writing on his left hand. Looks like two bars from afar but it might be scribbled writing. Does that represent the "Make Trade Fair" that he writes on his hand during concerts?

The Oracle replies:

"The doll playing Chris" made me chuckle but I know what you mean. The puppet does indeed have the MTF equal sign on his left hand even though Chris no longer has the symbol on his own real hand during concerts. He's still actively supporting the cause though.

Q. Dearest all seeing, all knowing oracle.

I've been watching Grey's Anatomy, and I've noticed that one of the songs on there, 'In the Sun', is a duet by Chris and Michael Stipe. I was wondering whether it will be released as a single, and if so, where can I get it? I find it a truly enthralling song, and I really hope it has been released.

Thanks for bestowing all of your knowledge on a poor, non-future-seeing soul like moi.

Amelia

The Oracle replies:

Michael released the In The Sun EP in 2006 for the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief fund.

It included six different cover versions of Joseph Arthur's track In The Sun. Mr. Stipe's venture raised a significant amount for Mercy Corps. Check iTunes as you can buy it there.

Q. Hello Oracle !

How is Will's nose since "the bell episode" ?

Thanks in advance...

Kisses from my Normandy !

He has a small mark on the side of his nose but it's barely visible; he's fine. Thanks for asking one and all.

Q. Hi Oracle! Im sorry but when did Chris Martin become a solo artist?

The Oracle replies:

Don't worry he's not. Chris has been doing some promotional radio appearances on his own while the band are in the studio and getting ready for their road trip. He's been there too working so there's no solo artist emerging.

Q. I've noticed in the "LiTii" video and the "Lost?" contest winner video both had clay animations in them.

I never really saw clay while listening to Coldplay. Why do you think these videos do so well?

The Oracle replies:

LiTii isn't Claymation, they're puppets and that's completely different. It means you can shoot the film seamlessly and not frame by frame for starters.

Q. Dear Oracle,

everybody knows that in the show-biz circulates a lot of drug, especially cocaine..

can I believe without feelin'naive or stupid that someone can be part of that system without usin' that stuff? I'm askin'you this 'cause I've recently had an argue with some friends about it..

I'd like to know your opinion..thank you very much and, if someone else has already asked you this, sorry for botherin' you!

The Oracle replies:

I can tell you from personal experience that there's a lot of it about but I can also vouch for your theory that yes, you can be part of that industry and refrain from recreational drug taking. I don't want to get in a heated drug debate but cocaine is not just rife in show biz circles. I have seen it within every single professional sector you care to think of! I have seen people lose everything to it. Just say no kids, it's evil!

Q. Hi Oracle..I attended Chris's acoustic session in London today (which was amazing) and as we drove on the M4 to get there, we saw a huge sign that read.."FOR THE ORACLE, LEAVE AT JUNCTION 11". Is this TRULY the residing place of the 'all wise one'? If it isn't, it at least brought a smile to our faces. x

The Oracle replies:

Ha! The Oracle has been to The Oracle a number of times which sounds like some kind of psychosis! The vast shopping mall in Reading, home to the festival has super shops, restaurants and a cinema plus ample parking. Now I sound like an advert...

Q. Is it just me or does the piano work in the beginning of Coldplay's Clocks sound awfully similiar to the beginning of Aqualung's Left Behind? which came first..the chicken or the egg? or in this case...Coldplay or Aqualung.

The Oracle replies:

I remember seeing Matt Hales previous band the 45's just before they were dropped and he became Aqualung, jolly good they were too. Anyway, as that was 2002 you can see that both were around at the same time but A Rush of Blood to the Head was released August 2002 and Aqualung's Still Life (album on which Left Behind appears) was released October 2003 so you can see which came first.

Q. Hey Oracle, like many people I watched the Superbowl (though mostly for the commercials and half time show). So, I was wondering what the first song Bruce Springsteen sang during the half time show was and can I get it any where?

The Oracle replies:

The Boss kicked off his 12 minute set with a golden oldie from the brilliant 1975 album Born to Run. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out was followed by the appropriately titled Born To Run, Working on a Dream (title track from his new album) and Glory Days.

Q. Hey Oracle. Here's a pretty random question - what book are you reading at the moment and what is it doing for you? Keep up the good work. Reading the Oracle entries helps to pass a tea break when working from home and feeling rather isolated and snowed in today. SM

The Oracle replies:

I have just started reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. And what it's doing...? My head in! No, it's interesting actually but a bit deep in places but then what would you expect from a book about Spiritual Enlightenment? I'm also slowly working my way through Toby Young's How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. I haven't seen the film but have reserved it on DVD, well Simon Pegg's in it isn't he and as you know he's a friend of the band.

Q. Because you know everything dear Oracle I want to ask you a thing. How many people visit coldplay.com each day?

The Oracle replies:

Lots! Well it depends on what we have going on as the numbers go up when there's a lot of activity. For instance, thanks to you guys the day Violet Hill was released, this website ranked as the most visited website among the Bands and Artists category. A little more than 1 out of every 40 visits to Bands and Artists category came here!
