Good pics of Jonny's new Rig!

I have:

2 '72 reissue thinlines

Hotrod Deville 2x12 amp

MXR Micro Amp (not in the new rig)

Boss TU2

MXR Phase 90

Ibanez Tube Screamer

Line 6 DL4

BTW- Jon has said in interviews that all of his thinlines are stock. Of course, being vintage, they have the actual WideRange pickups.

I've been playing for 6 months and i'm already drooling over that gear, don't have the money for it, so for now i just stick the Behringer remakes of all that gear.:laugh3:

I only have a Telecaster lol.

But I'm saving up lots so that I can purchase a Jazzmaster and several effects.

As you can guess...that much stuff will take a lot of saving up..

But just looking at Jonnys effect board makes me confused! I'd love to sit in a room with him for a couple days and just get him to take me through it all.

Imagine that: a one on one with the Jonny Buckland on his guitars and effects...*collapses*

Once you break it down, the rig's really not as complex as it seems at first glance. It's just that Jon tends to have several of each type of effect. by my count he has 3 seperate distortions, 6 delays, 2 revebs and 2 tuners, and 2 pedals capable of octive effects.

BTW-Good luck on getting that Jazzmaster, they're great guitars and a lot more versitile than most people think.

Yer. I've been in love with them for ages now. It'll be such a good guitar to have as well, cos everyone usually just has teles or strats. To have a jazzmaster will be unique and it also has the types of sounds I want.

I don't really know if i should step in the more expensive gear, because i really want to get a sound like Jonny but i don't know whether i'm good enough yet:\

I think us guitarist should all turn up at the bakery one day and demand Jonny to take us to take us through his gear:laugh3::laugh3:

I'm sure you'll improve with practice and time...:)

The main thing to keep in mind (especially with Jonny's new rig) is that a lot of that gear is esentially professional quality equipment. You can get great sounds out of a few Boss pedals. You don't need great gear to be good guitarist.

That's why they pay me the big money!:laugh3:

Seriously though, If you want a frame of refrence, I currently play guitar in a band that covers Coldplay, Radiohead, The Editors, U2, Bloc Party etc. as well as playing some original material in the style of the above bands, and my rig is:

2 Reissue Fender '72 Thinline Telecasters

Reissue Epiphone Casino

Fender Hotrod Deville 2x12 Combo Amp

MXR Micro Amp

MXR Phase 90

Ibanez Tube Screamer

Boss TU2

Line Six DL4

Boss TR2

Sweet, what is your band called?

Also, do you reckon you'll be purchasing new gear from Jon's new gig?

I thinking of buy an E-bow, it'll come in handy for the band i'm in:)

It's fun, I'm only just starting out in a band, writing new material can be frustrating if song ideas don't work

My band is called String Theory (it's a physics thing...yes we're all nerds:laugh3:)

As for the gear, I do want the Fulltone OCD and some George L's cable, but I've wanted those for a long time, way before Jonny started using them. Both are expensive though. At the moment though, I'm saving up to buy a Hughes and Kettner Rotosphere which is an extremely expensive pedal.

As for the E-bow, I've never actually played one (considered it a while back but my amp exploded and I had to spend the money on that), but I've heard from a lot of people that they are very difficult to use well.

I realized I never answered this question from an old post (unless I in fact have, in which case ignore my ramblings...)

"so does his Pandora box control the different Rack units?"

Here's how I THINK the system works (based on what I KNOW about other similar systems)

The gear (rack and pedals is all programmed into a bank of "presets" (which pedals/effects are on for which song and portion thereof). Each song has a number of presets (say 3-5) As the computer cycles through the setlist (which must also be pre-programmed) these banked presets are assigned to a series of bypass switches (usually the bottom row). Jon can cycle through the presets by engaging the assigned switch. The other switches are likely assigned to individual pedals, allowing Jon to call any one of them up at will.

i have that OCD pedal, im very sure jonny uses it for violet hill. Its such a great pedal.

  • Author

I think I can here bothe the OCD and the HBE distortion at different points in Violet Hill. Both are great pedals...

  • 2 weeks later...

Like yellowtalk, I'm a new guitarist, about 6 months or so and still fumbling a lot.

I don't have any pedals because I'm playing with a practice amp atm, but I would like to advance to proper pedals and effects soon. What Jonny has looks quite cool, though I know I don't have the budget nor the skills to warrant getting anything close to his pedalboard.

I'm not too sure what I ought to get to achieve a similar type of Buckland sound though :\

"I'm not too sure what I ought to get to achieve a similar type of Buckland sound though"

I'd suggest starting with a Line 6 Multi-FX unit, or perhaps a few Boss Pedals. Most of Jon's pedals in this rig are super high end professional quality stuff. You can get the basic delay/reverb sound pretty well out of a multi FX (like the POD pro).

Hmmm thanks for the recommendation. Will keep that in mind when shopping around. I've heard that the PODxt Live is quite nifty for a beginner too... Guess I just gotta try stuff out and see for myself.

Well, my 'band' is easy.

Its only me in it.. well.. I need others.. but the band name is my real name to. :P

See here my bandsite: http://www.stuff4all.nl/band/ =)

very nice! I like your style, looks like you all really need is some people to do what you say. :P

" Guess I just gotta try stuff out and see for myself."

That really is the key. Nobody can really tell what's best for you and your situation. It's what sounds good to your ears...

  • 2 weeks later...

My suggestion is to not build off this rig of Jon's. His Parachutes-X&Y set up is a little more basic and what Im building around. While also making independent choices for myself.

  • Author

"...His Parachutes-X&Y set up ..."

Well, by the time X&Y rolled around, he already had several rare and vintage pedals in his setup, as well as a custom built MIDI switcher, but yeah, his Parachutes era board is a good place to start if you want to build a nice rig that's pretty comprehensive without going overboard.

  • 1 month later...

Don't know whether this has been posted before. But here's a great overview of the fx that are being used in which song. Not the current tour though ....
