Your opinion's/views/beliefs/ about Australia and Australians

Featured Replies

Alright, well I have to do an assignment about Australians and Australia. It is a fairly broad topic, so you can basically say anything you feel like but the main reason why I want to hear your opinions, is because I'm Australian and I don't want to be one-sided. Besides, it would be really interesting to see what you have to say. So, if possible, whatever you post give me a reason too please. Thank you.

Actually I don't think that my opinion about Australians should be something different from the rest of the nations :D

But - about Australia - I think it must be cool to celebrate Christmas when it's sunny and warm

I'll be honest, I have never had any personal relationships with any Australians. However, my general impression is that Aussies are a very polite people. The first three things that come to mind about Australia are the Sydney Operahouse, aboriginal tribesman, and the Australian flag.

I happened to watch a documentary the other night about Schapelle Corby and my impression from that family is that they are all good people. I felt emotionally connected to the family somehow in watching it.

Hope that made some sense! It's 4:30 am here and I am quite tired. ;)

I THINK ALL AUSTRALIANS ARE NOT COOL. THEY ALL SWEAR TOO MUCH AND DRINK TOO MUCH AND WALK AROUND IN RIPPED CLOTHING.

As you can tell Cavenow is politically incorrect.

In that case you forgot to mention the fact they all have kangaroos in their back gardens have "barbies" on the beach every day, and say "G'day me old cobber" all the time!!:P

Woo, go Cavenow for being brave enough to say it and Carolyn I have to laugh. A lot of Australians are disgusted with Schapelle and personally we're not all that polite, we just pretend to be and then we go back to our little groups and joke around and as Cavenow said we swear, we are very blunt but thankyou guys so much, because there is a lot of stuff that is just umm surprising I suppose.

Ripped Shirts, WTF?

Wait I don't even know what a cobber is?

Are you sure you're Australian??:P

By the way, there's also Dame Edna, Rolf Harris, Neighbours and Kylie!!:D

ugh that would be horrible if we lived a life like Neighbours!! Then again Chris said he liked neighbours.

But it's been rubbish for many years now, like nearly ALL soaps!

Australia is a beautiful wonderful place, with brilliant cities, and a diverse natural and cultural landscape.

That aside a lot of people can be, well, dickheads I have found. I'm not saying everyone, a lot of people are nice, and friendly, but people here are very, how to put it "isolated" within who they are, they don't really break out from what they know.

Still, plenty of nice people :nice:

Sad to say, Australia suffers from a high soapie addict rate and in Australia ow Soapie stars are practically our celebrities and another thing almost every Australian hates Kylie (we/they kind of think she is the fakest Australian ever ** please don't kill me) Unless you are from the city, then it is completely the opposite

Ha ha! If she's fake, then what does that make Dannii??:laugh3:

Soapie stars are practically our celebrities

Well theres nobody else to be celebrities :P.

me and Jizo speak the language. Haha, Danni, she is barely known. AND I MEAN BARELY. And Steve Irwin I was heart broken. He was a celeb who we could identify with. He represented us. I mean we don't have a range of classes it is really just the working class man - no upper class - no lower class. And Nicole, I don't think she is really that respected but probably more than Kylie but still it's a no.

WTF IS A COBBER

I heard, that in Australia, they eat kangaroo's everyday, whilst drinking their blood. And one time, I went to Australia, and I went into the outback too look at the big rock in the centre, and this man in shorts tried to kill me. I never returned.

Soooooooo Australia & the Australians?

- Britain used to use it as a dumping ground for convicts. Although when you look at the Old Bailey records, some of those weren't particularly bad. you could get deported for stealing a loaf of bread.

- its a very diverse continent with a lot of different habitats. a friend's Dad and his new family live in Australia (I don't remember where), and its apparently very similar to England

- one of my favourite children's authors is from Australia. Elyne Mitchell, who writes the Silver Brumby stories.

Don't you get those really big scary spiders in Australia?

But on the plus side you have the 'Roos. Is that the cool way to say kangaroo? I dunno. *shrugs*

Australia does seem like a really nice place though, I'd love to go there someday

WHAT ABOUT HEAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHH :(

Some people I've met get very offended if they are either from Australia or New Zealand, and you get it the wrong way round. and I mean really offended. eek :dozey: :laugh3:

I have a friend who lives there and she's awesome. She has quite a vulgar sense of humour, lol..... dunno if all Aussies are the same.

Neighbours has been my view of what Aus 'might' be like? heh.

I want to go visit someday. :D

A few days ago this was written on my msn: Australia & Australians = (L)! ;)

So. When I think of Australia, this is what pops into my mind:

SYdney Opera house, Melbourne, Canberra, kangaroos, coalas, dingos, surfing, Ayers Rock.

I've met some Australians while I was in England, and I must say that they were all fun and friendly. I only had some minor problems with a guy from Perth - I couldn't really understand what he was saying because he was talking too fast and was using "mate" and "ay" too much. :P But otherwise I admire their independency because they all were travelling round the world or Europe for 5-6 months.

Plus I think of Slovenia when I hear about Australians - a lot of people moved there in between the wars and after the 2nd WW. I actually have some relatives there but I don't know them. :(
