Hey C0ldplay420,

like you, I first fell in love with Coldplay's music through the album X & Y with the song Fix You. From there, I bought the X & Y album and enjoyed it thoroughly and couldn't stop playing it. After that, I bought the albums backwards (AROBTTH, followed by Parachutes) and the songs just kept getting better and better.

I don't think people are trying to say that X & Y is not a good album. It's fantastic. But compared to the other works that Coldplay has done previously, there were other albums that were better than it. (:

Don't get me wrong, I love X & Y to death and I owe it to my love for this fantastic band, but Parachutes and AROBTTH are very different and less mainstream compared to X & Y, more personal. This may be why other coldplayers love it much more than X & Y? haha...

All, in all, i think it's a matter of your own opinion in the end. An analogy... Some people who like rock music won't like folk music and some people who like folk music won't like rock music. It's a personal opinion. (:

I FUCKEN LOOOOOVE X&Y WITH ALL MY HEART.....that album made me fall in love with their music.....i think the weakest passsion wise/all in all is VLV......so their u have it!!!!!

Its my favourite Album, and i would defend it too the hilt. I agree with the critics, when they say that it is coldplays most mainstream, and unnatural album, But the music produced, i feal is extremely strong, and very good. I think that it was badly directed, and the music on it are very experimental, with the use of Synths, more catchy riffs etc. but we do not recognise it as being very experimental, as the tracks are all over the place, with no real flow as we see in VLV.

Yes the lead single "Speed of Sound" is very similar to the grammy award winning "clocks" Yet i love it and will always be in my playlist til kingdom come.;)

Album doesn't contain any emotion? "Fix you" Written for Gweneth Regardinge Bruce Paltrows death as she suffered from depression after the event. "What if" A Song Written and dedicated to their Daughter Apple."A Message" and "Swallowed in the Sea" two love songs each starting with a slow melodic accoustic, which build into a more fast paced finlale.

Others say that the album contains a strong "Spacey" theme that continues throughout the album. But did we not heavily want a theme for VLV?

I agree that Chris's voice doesnt sound as natural as the previous, but does it sound any worse?

It is all a matter of oppinion in life. Love & Loath. X & Y.

FIX YOU IS OVERRATED.

So is Viva La Vida.

End pointing-out-via-random-shoutouts.

It's all a matter of opinion. It sold a million billion trillion copies, and is still selling today. A lot of people like it, a lot of people don't. I like it. Tweak the tracklisting in a few places, swap a couple of album tracks for a couple of B-Sides and you've got yourself a bloody fantastic album.

It's all a matter of opinion. It sold a million billion trillion copies

WRONG!!

(sorry, i had to)

Well I don't know the exact figure, but it was a lot right.

But not that much

therefore

you are incorrect

Opinion isn't a myth.

It isn't a myth that many people don't like it as much as the others, it's a fact.

Yes it sold loads, but there's still a hell of a lot of people who see it as their weakest.

Each to their own, if you personally love it, then great :)

Millions of copies sold dosent mean anything.

Spice Girls, thats all I got to say, and Xandy was their weakest in my opinion. Lacked soul and drive, and anything that made them great! It will NOT be remembered as a greatest album of all-time kinda thing. But there other albums are good enough to atleated be mentioned as a nominee kinda thing!!

It's a good album, but incredibly uncreative.

^ i know dath hill.

it's a great album... but it was nothing new or spectacular:dozey:

but still an awsome album:D

As for many others, X&Y was the album that made me fall in love with their music. Fix You is overrated though, as someone wrote.

theres no way to really prove that it is or isnt as good...but one thing is concrete, a lot more people dislike X&Y compared to the other 3 albums...but thats just opinion, it doesnt make it true or anything

OK I think that X&Y does have some very similar songs, but I like the spacey feel to it...

A short review...

1.SQUARE ONE - One of my favorite Coldplay songs ever. Such an amazing starter. I wish to hear this live, and it should have been a single instead of Speed of Sound IMO. A true Coldplay track, unbelievably moving and out-of-this-world.

2.WHAT IF Might sound like a Scientist rip-off, but it's really really beautiful. The text is really nice. The only thing I don't like are too many choruses at the end of the song.

3.WHITE SHADOWS At first I really liked the song, but now I am kind of bored by it a bit now. But maybe that's just NOW, as I really think it is a nice song as well.

4.FIX YOU HATED IT at start. But now I really really love it. I can't wait to hear it live. The arrangement in the song is beautiful and the text is like this wonderful ODE to friendship... When I learned what it's about, God, I loved it even more...

5.TALK One of the rare songs I liked from Coldplay at the start. It's a good song, really. Love the lyrics, and I think he is talking to God? Or no? Prefer this to White Shadows, though.

6.X&Y Seemed whatever to me, but now... well it is a great song for being with someone you love, and just lying in the dark, watching each other and "floating into outer space"... Love the end.

7.SPEED OF SOUND My least favorite Coldplay song, next to Chinese Sleep Chant. Too boring and a rip-off of Clocks, which is one of my fav songs... And I HATE that this song was a single...

8.A MESSAGE I know many people like it, but to me it's rather boring.

9.LOW Same thing I guess.

10.HARDEST PART Didn't really like it. But it's OK now I guess. The video creeped me out a bit, but the song itself is nice :) I don't understand why they released it as a single if they hated it though...

11.SWALLOWED IN THE SEA Like X&Y, a wonderful love song... A dreamer in me wakes up (lol) whenever I hear this song... "a song a thousand miles long" - amazing.

12.TWISTED LOGIC This song is creepy in a way, it makes me scared about what future may bring. But it's interesting, I guess. Can pass.

13.TIL KINGDOM COME Didn't like it. Kinda country. But I do like it now. Really. Nice closer.

So , all in all, IMO - a decent album. Not my least fav either. I don't think I have a most and least fav album - I like how they all differ. The only thing I can say that I don't like about this album are similar tracks. Which can't be said for VLV as it consists of ALL different tracks.

So yeah...

I think each album is amazing in its own right....i would not compare them because as musicians they grow and make better music as time goes by.....i think there sound has evolved.....its unfair to say that X&Y was not up to par with other albums....i think they are all amazing

I understand what your getting at...but i view alll there albums individually

X&Y contains 3 of my 5 favorite coldplay songs (Swallowed in the Sea, What If and Fix You also love Til Kingdom Come)

The thing about it is, as an album, I don't sit down to listen to X&Y. I could listen to AROBTHT or VLV in one sitting and they stand alone as works of art. X&Y is great to listen to the couple of songs that you love. But there are songs that will almost always be skipped! I can't say the same for any of the other three.
