Two wanderers in the 1800's who started a printing business in Chicago, specializing first in railroad tickets, then railroad maps - their wax plates made it possible to print tiny lines and symbols, and make rapid changes to the maps, as the railroads quickly expanded across the country - hence their early success in "road" maps of the time, well before their famous Road Atlas of the automobile era came about.
