Barack Obama's core belief

Featured Replies

Barack Obama's core belief is that we belong not to ourselves, but to government. We are tools that the government is free to use to bring about what Obama calls "economic justice." The fruits of our labor belong to government ... and government can do with them what it pleases.

Now if this is your philosophy, then vote for this guy. Then every time you draw a paycheck why don't you drop him a line and ask him how much of it you can keep to care for your family and plan for your own future and how much he would like to have to redistribute to someone who sat on their butt while you were busting yours. After all, you voted for him.

I wonder if i'm wrong and Obama will be any different then McCain would be or Bush was. I still believe the core policies will be the same because both parties are the same. This will be interesting to find out in the next 4 to 8 years.

No matter what this is going to be fun, were all fucked no matter who wins.

Well yeah, that's what government is. The majority votes to take the minority's stuff in the name of "justice". If you don't comply they shoot you.

But at least the figurehead of government is a smiling skinny man who you'd want to have a beer with. That's what counts.

If McCain got in you'd still 'belong' to the government.

3rd party isn't a choice, because they'll never win. Its not logical to vote for someone who won't stand a chance at winning. Congress needs to change the electoral college system, then it would be reasonable and logical to vote 3rd party

They aren't a choice because we believe they aren't a choice. As long as that myth continues the corrupt politicians will stay in office. That is the main set back, we have this notion that it's impossible. Open our minds and vote for change and we could have it. Sadly most will continue to believe it's impossible and we'll suffer for that.

I'm sure people said the same things about revolutions, in the 1770s....

It's because the majority of americans deem it impossible that it is impossible...and in any case...most Americans aren't well enough informed to look beyond the two major candidates. Personally I'm so-so on Barr...

well i look at the third party candidate and i ask ,"would i want this man to be president?" and in the case of Bob Barr i say no. I do not agree at all with libertarian views. I believe it is an outdated way of thinking and impractical in a global society.

I say the same thing about the neo-cons and neo-libs. I don't see Barr as a good leader, just as a tool to bring about change in the future. If we see a larger amount vote for any 3rd party, that will give us momentum for the next election and maybe in a few elections get a 3rd party in office. Hell, I'd even support Nadar in office, at least he's more honest and less corrupt then Obama. Nadar is a more realistic Obama at least. Anyone who likes what Obama says, should be voting for Nadar not for Obama, because he's just a corrupt bastard who only makes his friends rich.

So, what you're saying is that political philosophies grow moldy with time, like a loaf of bread left uneaten.

How quaint.

mrcool, i supported ron paul due to his stance on corporate campaign donations.

This is why I'm not gonig to be voting for Obama. Not just does he want to expand government (as if it's not already big enough), he also is gonig to raise our taxes and spread the wealth. As for the whole McCain is a 3rd term of Bush is just bull, and i'm so tired of obama bringing it up.

Personally I have been switching as to who to vote for (i was originally for ron paul, then obama, then mccain, then obama, and now mccain again). At this point it appears Obama will win, and being in NY voting for McCain really won't do much because Obama will win NY, but i'm still gonna vote

Is anybody watching this 30 minute Obama advertisement?

It's pretty bleak. Basically he's portraying Americans as being people who lack the basic means to support themselves and their families.

I forgot about it until right now when it just ended, wish I could've gotten a little glimpse of it.

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

I watched it. Terribly mellow dramatic. None the less he's getting my vote

Stand up for morals and vote 3rd party. I know they don't stand a chance this election but I cannot vote for McBama nor not vote at all. I'd be betraying myself and my nation to vote for McCain or Obama, but not to vote is horrible, so I'm voting 3rd party.

I'm putting my weight into changing the process, which I have to hope is possible, just as it was possible to throw off the shackles of tyranny so many times in history. I think Barack Obama, and even McCain at one time held to a higher standard of ethical philosophy, but as Jefferson wrote about the institution of slavery as "eventually dragging everyone down all who were involved in the institution" so I feel the same about our politics here in the U.S. Such was the pull of bad ideas surrounding slavery, that it even pulled in Jefferson and debased his views of his fellow man; in essence his own prophesy became his downfall.

I was watching a bit of Link TV (haven't a clue who else watches it), and it is just plain wrong how hard it is for 3rd party candidates to get on the ballot. One 3rd party candidate needed some odd 69,000 signatures to get on the ballot (as a candidate under the Green Party ticket), while any other major party candidates needed just 2,000 signatures. That in and of itself is a crime against the citizenry - I may not always vote 3rd party, but I believe the qualifications for getting on the ballot should be the same for everyone. Period. And I think it's mostly because the big money behind the 2 major parties wants to block all opposition before it even gets off the ground - and the big money donors should be put in their place, and be no more influential than the rest of us!

There is a campaign finance bill working it's way through congress based on several states that have effectively adopted similar legislation, but it already looks compromised, allowing an end-game around it - an "opt out". We need some sort of mass movement to end the corruption, and open up the process for more honest, broad-based, and new perspective candidates! Viva La Revolution!

Vote 3rd Party? Hmmmm. To me thats just a vote for McCain at this point. Though not a landslide by any means most polls show Obama winning the election... Assuming he is the candidate we will elect any vote for a 3rd party candidate only helps the next closest contender.

I understand your idea of "change". I believe in the need for real change. Time will tell if either candidate will bring about any. I have serious doubt in either. On the face of it all. Is a percieved "black" man running against the same old "white" guy thats controlled the office since its beggings. My vote for "change" is for a "percieved" change. It may seem shallow. I think its an important election because if we as a country with real racial issues vote for Obama and he wins, we will have succeded in changing that one thing, and that may be the first step towards "real" change.

The only change will be the color of the president. The horrible policies will still be there. But hey, I'd rather see Obama in office then McCain, it'll be more interesting.
