November 5, 200817 yr Hello everyone!! I've been reading this board forever and finally decided to get off my butt and join the madness! Now let's see... I've been a Coldplay fan since Yellow but life kept me so busy that I would occasionally lose track. No worries, I always find my way back to the music! It's my last year of college so that will be one less obstacle--whoo!! Err...what else...? Oh yeah, I'm from Ohio originally but have lived around Philadelphia for the past 4 years. Philly rules!!!!!! I can't think of much to say about myself but I guess I should mention that I'm deaf. I lost my hearing in a bike accident when I was almost 7 years old. I passed out and woke up deaf, so I have those years of hearing experience to help me make my way these days. It also helped me retain a sense of speech and as I've gotten older, am able to communicate either vocally or by using Sign. It was a weird injury, technically I could be hearing but there's something blocking my ability to access my hearing (nothing fixable, yet!) ....so what I do hear with the help of hearing aids and my knowledge of sound isn't anything like y'all hear, but it's enough! The moral of the story is to ALWAYS make sure you or your kids wear helmets while riding a bike or doing anything that could result in a blow to the head. Having said that, my hearing loss was probably one of the worst, yet best things to ever happen to me. It was a blow to lose music by normal hearing but I wouldn't change what happened... I survived and had the opportunity to meet and befriend so many wonderful people I wouldn't have met otherwise. Who could ask for more? The biggest point I want to make by saying all of that is that I truly appreciate music more than I would have before. It was my biggest passion as a kid and still is to this day. When I get a new album, I have to spend a lot of time in a quiet spot focusing on what I am hearing, get the lyrics and match it up with the things I can pick out....it's exhausting completely worth the effort!! One of neatest things, I think, is to see songs translated into Sign Language, if I can follow a song well enough, chances are I end up putting the lyrics into Sign Language while listening, On the down side, it gives non-Coldplayers more ammo against Coldplay. Can't count how many times I get "Of course you like Coldplay, you can't hear them!" Nerds. Other than Coldplay, I adore U2 and The Beatles. They're my biggest loves but I give everything a chance and like quite a variety of artists. I have an occasional weakness for some 80s rock and metal bands. Oh well!! I'm off to post some very crappy pictures (thanks to the beer throwing turds at the Parade!!) from the show at Wachovia last Saturday before that thread dies! HOLY CRAP! While typing tis last bit, the news seems to have announced OBAMA as President..........!!!!!!!! My faith is almost restored in the people again!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited because in my excitement over Obama, I forgot to mention my name is Amber!

November 7, 200817 yr Hello to Philadelphia!! Hello Amber, and a warm welcome to you in Philadelphia!!! You have a beautiful story about appreciation and overcoming obstacles in life - congratulations on your ability to pick up the tune through concentration! I find that their lyrics are well written, and perhaps more the result of subconscious streams of thought - spontaneous I am sure in many ways. We all need a little lift, sympathy, drive, and inspiration at time - it's the spirit that travels through their music, and reverberates well throughout the globe - through lyric and moods of music. It's good to know another kindred spirit!! YAY!:jester:
