HAHAHAHAAHAHAAH. oh yes well now i must admit i'm wrong cuz nick told me so.

i'm not wrong. i believe what i believe.

i've seen too many things wrong with this country to say there is nothing wrong with it.

you don't know everything about america either.

but still you come here and try to prove to me that all i've said is a bunch of bull opinion of mine.

i'm not the only one who thinks things i've said.

just because only me is saying this does not mean other people don't think that too.

and don't come here saying that all you've done is been nice to me. beacause you haven't.

don't even play the victim

just because you believe in something doesn't mean you're right

and just because others here agree with you doesn't mean you're right

tracylynn is right in pointing out that you are generalizing and demanding statistics when you yourself have none.

and I'm playing no "victim". I have been only nice to you from the moment I met you and Carla can back that up. I am always nice to people unless they give me a specific reason not to be and you've given me loads of reasons today.

don't try to flatter yourself into thinking that you are some strong, opinionated, educated debater. you are nothing but a racist and an America-hater.

hahaahahah i'm beeing a racist cuz i've stated my opinion about a country i don't like?

hahaaah ok.

no. you're being a racist because you are making unwarranted accusations and insults toward a country you don't like. you are also generalizing their people and refusing to listen to other opinions

that is why you are being racist

  • Author

i'm listening to tracylinn opinions not yours.

all i've hurd from you is. yooou racisttt.. you hate my countryy. shuuut up.

so if it's an apology you're looking from me you're not gettin one cuz i'm not going to say sorry about something i'm not sorry about.

maiby you should say sorry for calling me names. that wasn't necessary.

i'm listening to tracylinn opinions not yours.

it wasn't necessary for you to insult all teenagers in my country and imply that I would use any job money to buy pointless crap. you brought any insults upon yourself by insulting my character.

and that's not all I've said. like tracylynn said, I made many good points a few pages back that you completely ignored while you ranted on about teenagers wasting their lives...you don't listen to what I have to say so I'm not gonna sit here and let you fill people's minds with your crap. just because you're bitter and hate America doesn't give you the right to try and spread that.

I don't know what this is all about, but from what I read over the last few pages its about racism and stereotyping that all US teens work in fast food outlets?

Well, teens can work anywhere as long as its not work included is work involving excavation, driving, and the operation of many types of power-driven equipment. And more places than food outlets choose to hire teenagers because, and this is fact, its cheaper than hiring adults. And, I myself, have worked with fast food (but not in a place like McDonalds) and it is good experience, customer service, cash handling, etc. Only did it for 3 months but it helped me get my second job.

Not everyone works in fast food. Video stores, supermarkets, etc, are all other first jobs for teenagers that are found far and wide.

I am not taking sides, just stating facts.

EDIT: Agreed with Nick actually, not everyone wastes their pay on crap.

Ok, look, both sides of this debate are right. Yes, the US education system is in need of repair. I stated in my first post the problem with out education system and I do believe I have a right to say that since I work in the education field. And yes, teenagers (some) do waste their lives on silly things. I see it everyday and I believe that is the result of the family more so than the education system.

Yes, it's wrong to generalize. But, when one does not like something it's hard not to generalize about that group or topic. I'm not saying it's right but it's something that we all tend to do whether intentally or unintentally. Heck, I've done it at times.

She answered my question and I was satisfied with it. Now, I wished I had just ignore this thread. Can we all this topic go?

thank you thank you thank you...you are actually thinking and making sense. and I was interviewed for a WALGREENS, a pharmacy, nationwide store, not FAST FOOD!

I don't like Izzy but Im not gonna go say "all non-Americans hate America"

no, I know that plenty of people in the world understand that not all Americans are lazy fat teens or George Bush supporters. some people (unlike Izzy) are able to open their minds and use common sense

she calls me a kid but she's the one who stereotypes like some ignorant child. You and me are able to comprehend, understand, and acknowledge things about other countries and our own.

hmm...pretty big words right there, Izzy. guess where I learned them?

AMERICAN SCHOOLS

HAHAHAAH. yep. this is the one :P

ooow. did you spend alot of money on this laptop? :\

of course is faster! its brand new! :P

yes pleaseeeeee lolaa. what do you think about this crappy education?

or maiby you love it?

i want to know!

cuz i feel like listening to someone smart like you talk about things like this. :nice:

i don't need crap from a kid..

I guess it was time to say good-bye to my 4 year-old laptop. Of course not, I spent $575 on a newer Toshiba, which was about $300 above what I would have spent on putting a new hard drive on the old one ($220). Even if I had repaired it, I would have probably bought a new one by next year. So why not get it now, and avoid trouble this year when I need my laptop to work fine while writing my thesis? Opportunity cost...I love being an Economics major :D

About U.S. education, I'll start by saying that this country has the best university/college education system in the world. There are other good universities around the world, no doubt, but USA leads when it comes to college.

U.S. high school education is another story, more like what I quoted from Tracy Lynn below.

stop insulting my country, stop insulting my education, and stop insulting my ability to learn and work at the same time. you don't know me, you don't know what I go through, you don't know what I can handle. so just stop talking because you are making it really hard to like you right now

Sorry Iz, he's right on this one. I don't know what you wrote to him, yet I absolutely hate, hate, hate insults, stereotyping, asumptions, labels and such. Don't be judgemental, and this goes to everyone who is reading.

Clearly, I don't agree with him calling you names as he did later on.

Education is not the same everywhere in the US. Education varies from student to student, school to school, district to district, and state to state. So what one may encounter in one place they more than likely will not encounter it in another place.

This is an excellent response. The reason it varies is that districts are in charge of education instead of the federal goverment as it happens in most countries. Districts collect property taxes to fund schools; thus, rich and middle class neighborhood would have better schools than inner-city ones where most people live barely above or in poverty.

However, school is what you make of it. In most states, there are magnet schools or specialized programs within a school, dual enrollment programs (go to comm college while in high school), IB programs, or each high school will offer at least some AP classes. The trick is to find and utilize whatever resources available. True, some states or district provide more opportunites, yet it's up to the student and their parents to challenge themselves and take advantage of the options available.

The same thing can be said about college.

hey lola:nice:

im glad you have a better computer now, it can be really annoying when you hve a bad hard drive:sick:

oh i know, i didnt get to see them last time because it was on a school night and my parents are real strict about that:(

i was crying the night of the concert, and it ws even worse going to school and seeing people wear their concert shirt:disappointed:

but if they come back im going to force my parents to take me:D

Oh, I'm sorry about that. You probably got mad with your parents, but they're know what they're doing even if it doesn;t make sense at the moment. Hopefully, if Coldplay goes to Houston, it would be on a non-schooll day or during the summer

BTW...experience does not mean working at a fast food place. Believe it or not but there are teenagers who work in other facilities that cater to retail (perhaps they want to go into retail management), construction, business companies (secretaries, etc), animal shelters/offices (vets), and so forth.

Certainly, teens work for different reasons, not only for having money to spend on extras. College is one reason, with tuition so expensive as well as other costs such as books (incredibly expensive), residence, food, car, insurance, etc. If someone can work and save before college is way better than having to ask for big loans. I have been fortunate to receive a scholarship and financial aid, plus studying in Florida where the tuition is the lowest, so I have only worked summers.

Oh, but I did work at Chick-fil-a (fast-food) on senior year of high school. It was cool and sucked at the same time :P

I doubt my answers will be better than Tracy's, but at least I tried.

^yes you did try. and you did well. and I said just about everything yo and tracylynn have, but I said them hours ago and Izzy ignored them and continued saying "all American teens waste their lives"

I can't handle being insulted like that. I work very hard, I don't have an easy life, and I still may not get into a great school just because I do not have a lot of money. So I am getting a job to help save for school. and I don't need some whiny racist telling em that I should be focusing on my education. working will earn money so I can get a college education. and I can easily work and study at the same time. so I really can't stand her insulting my character like that, assuming I would use that money carelessly.

I think I can summize this all in a few sentences:

American students aren't just a number in the American education system, they are a person, with different needs, wants, thoughts and feelings and not everyone has the same goals or lifestyle.

Its like a Venn diagram, just because an inner circle of say "reckless youths" lies within the circle of students, doesn't mean all students are like that, to truly see a wider view of the world you have to step back and look at thing seperately rather than generalize because it often leads to opinions that aren't justified, as it lacks understanding of how people function.

Even if the people you talk about are in a majority (not saying they are, just an example), it doesn't mean there are not many minorities with vast differences.

And off the record, how could Izzy say I haven't been nice to her up until this debate? I never ever was anything but nice, pleasant, and supporting, especially when THIS thread was being threatened to be closed.

  • Author

if you would of been supporting you would of have said close it like i wanted to.

you know who was supporting. rudy was supporting.

support is when you back up a friend when they want something.

so no. you weren't at all supporting or nice.

i for one don't go insulting a "friend" just because they don't see it my way nick.

And, I myself, have worked with fast food (but not in a place like McDonalds) and it is good experience, customer service, cash handling, etc. Only did it for 3 months but it helped me get my second job.

EDIT: Agreed with Nick actually, not everyone wastes their pay on crap.

Same here, I worked with fast food, but in a chain that is more classy than McDonald's. I agree that it does help you learn to deal with customers.

And yes, teenagers (some) do waste their lives on silly things. I see it everyday and I believe that is the result of the family more so than the education system.

Can we all this topic go?

There won't be any real, substantial reform until everyone realizes and agrees that families (not schools) are responsible for teens wasting their lives away.

Yes, we should let it go.

I can't handle being insulted like that. I work very hard, I don't have an easy life, and I still may not get into a great school just because I do not have a lot of money. She touched a "hot button," an issue dear to your heart or mind, so I understand why you got mad now (I don't spent my money on crap either, not even the one given to me by the governement thru financial aid. If they give it to me to get an education, then that's what I'm doing).

I applaud you for being brave and strong, as well as mature. So you are already doing what I suggested above: saving for college. Don't worry, all that effort you're doing will pay off. Don't sweat the I-don't-have-a-lot-of-money-therefore-I-cannot-attend-great-school. First, get into the great school(s). Second, fill out FAFSA and apply to scholarships, then wait for their financial aid package offering. If they really want you, you could negotatiate (e.g. Hey School A, there's school B offering more aid and School C giving me full ride, what can you top that?).

Also, you could look into public "Ivies," (google this) where you get quality education but for a lower price, meaning less loan burden.

I should stop now, I sound like a college counselor

If my friend wanted drugs I wouldn't support him.

Rudy told me in private messages that I was being helpful and he understood what I was trying to do, he just said you needed different support. he understood that I was trying to help you

and saying that I would blow my work money on crap, saying that all American teens waste their lives, and saying that the only job experience I can get is burger-flipping isn't insulting me?

wake up Izzy! you started this. all I did was announce I did well in a job interview. you then had to go off telling me all the reason why it's wrong for me to work and why my education sucks. if you were truly a "friend", you would have said, "Congrats, I hope you get the job." Like Tracylynn did.

and I didn't even know her when she said that

  • Author

yeah. cuz i was talking about drugs.

have some sense. i'm talking about things that won't harm a friend.

how is this thread closing going to harm me?

she did touch a "hot-button". I've had a very tough life for someone my age (and not because I "didn't get that iPod") I won't go into details because it's no one's business but mine, but ask Carla if you must, she'll back me up. and I won't have someone I don't know insulting me like that when they don't know why I need to work. she had no right to say what she did.

thank you for that advice. I already knew it all but at least you're making an attempt and not just telling me that my school and job sucks.

yeah. cuz i was talking about drugs.

I know you weren't, but you made a GENERALIZED statement so I thought I'd get specific with an example. Oh wait, I believe thats happened before....

The appropriate noise here would be *zing*

yeah. cuz i was talking about drugs.

have some sense. i'm talking about things that won't harm a friend.

how is this thread closing going to harm me?

I was merely trying to tell you (since you are newer and I've been here longer_ to not listen to Jack or Nathan or whoever. I was trying to show you that you needed to stand up for yourself. Rudy understood what I was trying to do.

Therefore, before you insulted me, I was never anything but nice to you.
