The draw for this year's Wimbledon has been made, pitting Andy Murray against American world No. 76 Robert Kendrick in the first round and placing him in the same half as World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. Assuming Nadal's fitness and form is adequate, the two could potentially square off in a blockbuster semi-final encounter.

Murray's probable route to the title is as follows:

R1 > Robert Kendrick

R2 > Gulbis

R3 > Dent/Troicki

R4 > Wawrinka/Safin

QF > Simon/Gonzalez

SF > Rafael Nadal

F > Roger Federer

The above draw route is, of course, subject to change depending on the participation of Nadal, who will decide today whether or not to take to the courts of Wimbledon following injury.

Murray has played 29-year-old Kendrick three times, winning every encounter. The last meeting was at Miami in 2007, while Murray came out on top at the 2006 US Open as well. Their only grass encounter, at Newport in 2006, ended 6-0 6-0 to the Scot.

Murray will open his Wimbledon campaign on Monday.

I think its pretty much a dream draw for Murray when you consider Nadal might pull out or will be struggling...

You have to expect hell get to the semis now and finally we can watch a British person in the semis and genuinely believe he can get further.

Iif Andy wins Wimbledon he would be only 5 pts behind Rafa.

Even sweeter is his 0-pointer at Indy drops off 2 weeks after Wimbly...to be replaced by his Queens 250!!

So the task for the number one contender for Wimby title is easy. Win makes him world number one

GOD DAMMIT NADAL ISNT PLAYING WIMBLEDON BECAUSE OF HIS KNEE. :whip:

woah, seriously? like, is that confirmed?

:edit: nevermind, it is. Well that seriously changes things, considering Rafa and Fed have been in the final for the past 3 years. (might I add that it was Roddick-Fed for 2 years before Nadal hit the scene :P )

I'd love to finally see Murray in the final. And the other Andy has a seriously easy draw, only del potro between him and semi with Fed.

Rafa's out!! That's made my day! Virtually guarantees Murray a place in the final!!:D

:surprised:

Never thought Mark could be this happy... :uhoh:

This might sound daft, but im actualy very wary of Del Potro now coming into his side of the draw. I know its grass and all that but still, he's playing some awesome tennis.

That said, if Murray can get to the final I am sure he will beat that Federror. Afterall, Fed is still the same shit player that was in decline not but a couple of months ago. Lests face it, Nadals semi match with Djokovic in Madrid meant that Rafa was playing at about 50% in the final against fed and that goat has been basking in the glory ever since. Murray has a major score to settle against the nose and i am convinced that Murray beating him in a Wimbledon final will spell the end for Fed again. It was Murray that started his decline the last time and this time round it will be nails in coffin.....Roll on Wimbledon

nails in the coffin? with the exception of the 08 Aussie the man's been in the past 16 major finals. And now with Rafa out his chances are better than ever, what makes you think he's slowing down?

Everything,he won the RG only because an average player against him in the final and his total points gained in this year until now compared to previous years at this time.

Oh right, anybody could beat everybody they played. Just a lucky coincidence that no one else did.

Well most significantly, Murray has a winning record against Fed.:D

True, but it still remains that Murray has yet to win a major (although he's overdue for one) and has only ever reached the final in last year's US open. I'm still befuzzled by Plugin's unwarranted 'federror' and 'goat' jabs.

Just posting the entire article about Nadal's withdrawal...

Champion Nadal out of Wimbledon

World number one Rafael Nadal will not defend his Wimbledon men's singles crown because of a knee injury.

Nadal, struggling with tendinitis, tested out his fitness in exhibition matches on Thursday and Friday, but was unhappy with the state of his knee.

"Not to play Wimbledon is one of the toughest decisions in my career," said the 23-year-old Mallorcan.

Nadal is the first champion not to defend his SW19 crown since Goran Ivanisevic missed the event in 2002.

"I've played with some problems in my knees for a few months but I always felt I'd try and try," added Nadal. "You don't know what your limit is, but I have now reached the limit."

But the world number one insisted the tendinitis was not career threatening.

"It's not a chronic problem, I can recover for sure," said Nadal. "I'm going to try very hard to come back and when I come back I'm going to come back with 100% mentality because when I play now, I was thinking more about the knee.

"I'm 23 and I hope to have a long career and come back next year - no one is more disappointed than me and the Wimbledon crowd must understand I tried my best."

Nadal, the four-time French Open champion, had been drawn to play Arnaud Clement at Wimbledon on Monday.

The Mallorcan was forced to withdraw from last week's tournament at Queen's Club with knee trouble and underwent intense rehabilitation in Barcelona.

He was diagnosed with tendinitis in both quadriceps tendons as well as a small amount of fluid on the kneecaps.

The 23-year-old looked to be on the mend after practising with Andy Murray at the All England Club on Wednesday, but the following day the Spaniard seemed troubled throughout his 80-minute exhibition encounter with Lleyton Hewitt, losing in two sets to the Australian.

Nadal was determined not to concede defeat in his fight to be ready for Wimbledon and played a second exhibition match at Hurlingham against Stanislas Wawrinka on Friday.

But two hours after losing to Olympic doubles champion Wawrinka, Nadal made public his decision to pull out of Wimbledon.

"I didn't feel terrible but I was not at my best," said Nadal, referring to his fitness levels against Wawrinka.

Nadal, who beat Roger Federer in a classic final in 2008, had previously stated he would not defend his Wimbledon crown if he was not 100% fit.

although murry v fed will be interesting indeed.

I have a tiny question..

He wasn't complaining about his knee during Roland Garros and the week after he lost.

And now he does?

Please, someone tell me I'm wrong, but I'm starting to think there's something behind that.
