i have to say that this thread embarrasses me a bit. i think that we americans have a right to be happy and that the people in the ignored countries have a right to be quite disappointed (but also a bit hopeful for monday :wink:). i do not, however, think that we americans have any right to complain nor feel offended by any "america hating" going on. don't you think these people have a right to be upset? the tweets got everyone all worked up, thinking that this might be something EVERYONE could enjoy, and then they find out that they don't get anything out of it, nothing. they're not angry at us or our country, they're angry at the management and the way that this was hyped up to EVERYONE. however, if people that have seen them before on this tour (or even had past tour dates in their area that they may or may not have been able to go to) keep talking and whining like they are, i think they ARE going start "america hating." the tour being in america specifically isn't the issue in my eyes--if they were visiting the UK or anywhere else for the third time on a big tour leg while ignoring other very large and loyal continents, people would be similarly angry after hyping it up like they did. i don't think these coldplayers are angry about it being in AMERICA, they're angry about it being anywhere for the third time.

 

i'm american, and i'm gettng frustrated with the americans that are whining about them not being close enough to them, even though several of those people have seen them at least once this year judging by their signatures. it embarrasses me, frankly. of course, there are those americans that haven't seen them at all this year either, but put yourself in the shoes of a person from a country that hasn't seen coldplay at all this year and think about how much WORSE that must feel.

 

the biggest mistake in all this was hyping it up through twitter without being specific to area. if this had been announced without fanfare, i have a feeling that the reactions would be slightly less strong, although still disappointed. i think a lot of this is because the spirits soared so high for one night, then crashed. let them be disappointed, and realize how lucky we are.

 

and everyone should be hopeful for monday :D. i have a good feeling about south america :wink:

Sorry I got upset if what is good news for us is a "big letdown" and "huge dissapointment" for others. Just made me feel like we shouldn't be happy they are going to more places. And I won't be seeing my two favorite bands play together because they're still a little too far away from me to see. And I never said they can't be upset!

Well first off I would just like to say, that announcing ANY tour dates I consider to be a big news. If they had announced more Europe dates, would people have come here and posted stuff like thist? Oh wait, they did announce more Europe dates. A whole summer stadium/festival tour. Funny I don't recall any moaning about how other countries where getting fucked over when those dates where announced. I seem to recall we where all quite excited for you and thought it was pretty sweet. If they are planning on announcing South American dates on Monday, I wish they would have just waited and announced all the dates together, would have caused less American hating. But they did the same thing with the European shows. They announced the UK first, then the rest of the Europe shows. Didn't hear any weeping for France when they did that, or South America either.

As far as us having 3 chances to see them, the US is a big place. Not everyone is as crazy as me, so traveling around isn't exactly an option for a lot of people. Of the new dates announced, By that logic, people in the UK should have traveled to other parts of Europe and seen them when they played there.

 

Oh and I counted 35 US/Canada shows and 39 shows for Europe and 2 for Japan so far on this tour. That does not include any of the free shows. Yes that's right, Europe has had more shows than North America.

 

Very good point! I was also happy when they announced EVERY leg of the tour. I didn't think any of the places they went were a big letdown or a dissapointment.

The jacket is back! Coldplay shells out summer tour dates

 

Just days before Chris Martin and Co. are set to be profiled by Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes (see below) and hit the stage with the slew of other musical heavy-hitters in celebration of The Grammys, the English outfit, perhaps best known to you and me as Coldplay, has rolled out dates for a summer U.S. tour.

 

Following stops in Japan, Australia, and Europe, Coldplay will return to the U.S. for what is currently a month-long endeavor beginning July 10th in Portland, Oregon. Of course, as any festival goer will tell you, the most attention grabbing part of the current itinerary is the plans around August 7-9, or the weekend that will be Lollapallooza 2009, which as of now, don’t give much credence to the current rumors that the band will be headlining the festival this year. But then again, one date (August 8th) is open, so you never know.

 

Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for the ones below will go on sale beginning Friday, February 13th via Ticketmaster.com.

 

Before heading out on tour, Coldplay will be splitting its time working on the followup to last year’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, performing at The Grammys, and dealing with a recent lawsuit served by musician Joe Satriani over plagiarism charges.

 

Suffice to say, the jacket won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

sorry, but i got way excited earlier:( and now that i read the entire thread, i feel bad:sad: i have just been at the wrong place and wrong time all my life:cry: but now i feel sorry now that i realize that they are coming around to america once again, i feel dreadful for all south america

Edmonton Sun: Coldplay Snubs The West Again

 

After originally scheduling and then cancelling dates in Western Canada last year, and leaving Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg out of the loop, Coldplay is returning to North America for a 14-date tour in July and August.

 

And again Western Canada is not in the cards.

 

The tour, in support of the band's Viva La Vida album, begins on July 10 in Portland, Oregon with stops in California, Texas and the Midwest before hitting Eastern Canada in July.

 

The tour concludes Aug. 9 in Tampa.

 

In an interview with Sun Media last July, Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland said the Western Canada dates would mostly likely be slotted for early 2009 and were the only dates being planned. But the group instead is mounting a Japanese tour starting next week in Tokyo.

 

"I've got quite a lot of family in Calgary and they would be very disappointed if we didn't play there," he said.
