06-Feb-09: Anchorman's Big Announcement Party Thread (North America Tour dates 2009)

Featured Replies

I understand that it's unbalanced, and I totally sympathize, but I don't think that anyone can say "what about coming to ______?" yet, except for the North Americans left out of this new tour. Because they're obviously going to a shitload of places this year :P It's just a matter of announcing them...

except north american left out of this new tour??

really?

what about asia, or some places in Europe that they just don't visit, or those countries in latin america that haven't seen them yet (the latin american tour only included 3 countries in south america and mexico)

I think that there will always some people sad because we/they are not seeing them, and obviously everyone has the right to complain about it, because we are all fans and we all would love to see them live

and why don't north american just take a bus/plane to see them, it's a big country but as I said before, it's not like they are going just to one big city. In another countries they go just to the capital city and lots of people have to take buses or planes to see them! when they came here there was many people from another south american countries which the guys didn't tour and also people from another cities and some of them had to spend 10 or 20 hours in a bus just to see them live

Well first off I would just like to say, that announcing ANY tour dates I consider to be a big news. If they had announced more Europe dates, would people have come here and posted stuff like thist? Oh wait, they did announce more Europe dates. A whole summer stadium/festival tour. Funny I don't recall any moaning about how other countries where getting fucked over when those dates where announced. I seem to recall we where all quite excited for you and thought it was pretty sweet. If they are planning on announcing South American dates on Monday, I wish they would have just waited and announced all the dates together, would have caused less American hating. But they did the same thing with the European shows. They announced the UK first, then the rest of the Europe shows. Didn't hear any weeping for France when they did that, or South America either.

As far as us having 3 chances to see them, the US is a big place. Not everyone is as crazy as me, so traveling around isn't exactly an option for a lot of people. Of the new dates announced, By that logic, people in the UK should have traveled to other parts of Europe and seen them when they played there.

Oh and I counted 35 US/Canada shows and 39 shows for Europe and 2 for Japan so far on this tour. That does not include any of the free shows. Yes that's right, Europe has had more shows than North America.

all the "we will announce big news tomorrow" was just wrong

Wo... guys, seriously. I know some people are disspointed, but I don't think we should have hyped it up in the first place. I'm super happy for the people that can go to the new shows. Don't get upset and start fighting just because the dates for your country aren't organised yet.

I personally feel extremely lucky and want Coldplay to go to other places.

13 shows in Australia/NZ, population ~ 25 million.

35 shows in the USA, population ~ over 300 million.

No, I understand all that, but I'm saying that they're obviously going to a lot more places that just haven't been announced yet, but they're probably not going anywhere else in North America. So I don't think people can freak out about what they don't know yet (ie the venues left to be announced in 09), whereas North Americans probably can start saying "oh, they're not coming here" because this is probably it in North America. I'm just saying that we have no idea what non-American dates are coming up, but we do know that they're coming, so people shouldn't jump to conclusions yet.

And not everyone can "just take a bus/plane", I know I wouldn't be able to if they weren't playing near me.

I know it sucks, but we still don't have the whole picture. And if America is giving them the most money, obviously their tour managers have to send them there, no matter where the band wants to go. It's just a fact of life, and I don't think anyone involved enjoys it, but that's the entertainment business.

all the "we will announce big news tomorrow" was just wrong
If they had announced South American dates today and North America on Monday would you still say stuff like this? Why aren't all tour dates considered to be big news?

yes because probably people in asia or europe wouldn't care about latin american dates

I'd consider big news just something like a cd/dvd release or a single or something like that,, not just some specific tour dates

Yeah, what Angie said :P

Guys, think about people living places such as Africa or Northern Asia who are a lot worse off than all of us.

yes because probably people in asia or europe wouldn't care about latin american dates

...

I was jealous of every date that was announced in the stadium tour because I wanted to go... I think that's probably true for everyone, we all care about new dates regardless of where they are because we all want to go :P

Lore, you know they're going to go to Latin America sometime in the next 9 months. They're not going to skip an entire continent.

Most of the dates announced today are in areas where they haven't played yet. Dallas, Houston and Toronto are the only repeat cities. And it's not my fault that Jonny can't stay away from me.

well I'm just happy they're coming to Toronto.I know they were here last summer but I didn't get to see them...And it's the only date in Canada this time around

I'm not sure how the planning goes anyway...how much say they have and everything. They love Latin America so they'll come at one point

I would love to be in Europe to see them but I don't think I'm going back home to France and Belgium this summer

I personally hate everyone going to Wembley :P.

I personally hate everyone going to Wembley :P.

Haha, SO TRUE! It's been torture these past few months hearing about everyone going to Wembley, and knowing that I couldn't go! :bomb: :P

I think in Europe's defence we're not made up of states, we're made up of countries, so it's a lot more expensive to fly around. Also the whole continent (some of which has been left out, Portugal, Finland for example) is bigger than the USA as a COUNTRY!

I think perhaps people are finding it hard to see past the side that they're on. Some people are disappointed, some people are happy. I think maybe we should all try and see it from both sides, stop getting at each other and just hope those who haven't been able to see them at all yet, do get to see them by the end of the year. :)

I agree that they should not have said that this was a big announcement because it really wasn't a big announcement. With that being said, who's to say that Coldplay won't go to Latin America or do more dates in Asia? They could annouce that they are heading to those places next week. Who's to know?

In all honesty, what Coldplay is doing is basically what other top artists do....they tend to do more shows in Europe and the US/Canada. Yeah, other artists do perform in Asia, Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, but they spend more time in Europe and the US/Canada. Why is that? Could it be the cost of putting on a show? I don't know but maybe it's cheaper to put on a show in these places than in other places. It could also be about the amount of money the band can make. If a promoter is willing to fork over the money for an artist, well, the artist will more likely take it. As since they are doing stadiums, well, could they also be looking at the infrastructure? Are there stadiums that can meet their needs? I'm not saying that these countries don't, I am just pointing out what they might be thinking when they are deciding on where they should go.

I don't think this is a American -vs- the rest of the world issue when it comes to this. In reality, it's a business issue and artists do what the business dictates.

I agree that they should not have said that this was a big announcement because it really wasn't a big announcement.
Sorry, but all tour dates are big news in my book. Even when they are no where near me. Mostly because I am happy for the people getting them, and because I alway start looking into the possibility that I may travel there. Have they announced the footie schedule for Argentina yet? If I was Coldplay, I would book a show so I could be in town to go to the Boca vs River Plate match. If they are there during this time, can someone get me a ticket to the show and the match so I can come and join you. :D

its big news for me because i didnt go to the last one and i get to go to this one:P:dance:

:laugh4: Angie's going to Argentina :D

What if it's the same day :uhoh:

Announcing 14 dates in one go is always a big deal, regardless of where they are ;)

It's just a shame that people got their hopes up, but I think it was inevitable... *shrug*

:laugh4: Angie's going to Argentina :D

What if it's the same day :uhoh:

Will wouldn't do that to me. :P If they are there at the same time and I can get a ticket to both, damn straight Angie is going! Now for a prize, guess which side I will support.

what ever it is and also what ever any one says but i am not at all satisfied with the whole US tour they've done in the viva la vida tour.

I am so badly disappointed.
