Don´t understand me wrong, I`m a really huge fan of Coldplay. It`s my favorite band. I visited three concerts in the past "Twisted Logic","A Rush of Blood to the head tour", "Viva la vida Tour". I have every album, every single, posters, I watch every video on the internet and I´m really really passionate with Coldplay because I feel the music running through my brain!!!

But if you are a really Fan you must be critical, I think that it is important. Chris Martin is the best songwriter in the world and has a unique voice, but I think the trend of the albums don`t support his voice...the high parts are difficult for him. I watched it in different videos on the internet and on TV Shows. For Example Chris don`t sing the last part of Viva la Vida because it`s too high. (Ohhhhooooo...part in the end)

I hope the new album will have unbeliveble hymes, riffs and melodies with piano and gitare...I really love VIVA LA VIDA AND DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS...but I think Chris voice is getting attenuate live...I diagnose it due to the comparison to other live perfomances in the past...

His voice isn't getting worse, your ears are getting better.

Many have pointed out that in live TV performances, especially on talk shows that aren't really made for music, he does sound pretty weak. But I think that he sounds fine in an actual venue performance, and I don't notice any problem on the album or EP, either.

yeah, most tv performances really suck. It just sounds like he's having such a hard time singing :\

You've chosen the worst video. Intentionally? His voice isn't worst. Is your voice every day and every minute the same?

When you watch him live at a gig his voice is spot on, apart from the occasional crack.

 

TV/award shows tend to suck though, presumably due to nerves.

Saw them in Glasgow and he sounded perfect, like I was listening to him on the CDs. One must consider that he might be nervous on tv shows/award ceremonies as the people in the audience aren't fans of Coldplay. But my GOD, Coldplay live are the exceptional band at the moment. Up there with U2 and Muse, no doubt about it.

And they had to cancel several shows because of vocal problems early on. I do't think he knew what he was in for when they started out. A lot of singers don't know the toll that touring takes on the voice, and even though he had coaching, it was too late to prevent the damage.

 

It's sad because his falsetto in the old days was beautiful, and he doesn't record those long, soaring high parts anymore. But he's learned to use other parts of his range instead to compensate. There's a lot more lower register stuff on the last couple of albums. He still has a beautiful voice, but he's had to learn how to use it differently.

 

If you listen to performances of Shiver from the first tour and from Twisted Logic in S. America a couple of years ago, you'll hear what I mean.

His voice is actually quite weak on the Blue Room EP.

His range has changed, of course, he was almost still a boy when they started. What he lost in higher range he's gained in lower - see "Yes", for example. And all in all his voice is much stronger.

 

It was at his best, for now, during the ROBTH era.

that clip was from 08 when he was doing show after show, night after night, plugging this new album, all the traveling, jetlag, and radio interviews it takes a toll on a voice, I see that the sound in this studio was way off, lousy sounds, Jonny made a boo boo too, and that my friends is when he would have called that performance "SHIT", I think he is in his element in front of large crowds for his concerts, he shines for his audiences, and have never seen his live shows sound like shit. Most of them have been from live tv shows or in an interview they ask him to sing. I think he and the band are excellent and don't have a problem with the minor cracks in his voice here and there. They travel all over the world making us happy, (well their bank accounts too). Just my 2cents.

I agree with whoever said his best singing was the AROBTTH era. He had the best of both worlds then. I domiss his really amazing falsetto from the old days, but he still sounds good with new approaches.

 

I love the fact that we're all discussing this and no one's gotten angry or defensive. We all love Chris so m uch, nobody wants to say anything bad, but it's interesting to analyze the last ten years. His voice was thinner on Blue Room, and much more intense now. In that way he's gotten better, but as I and others said, touring has had a real impact.

 

I'll love him even if he sings like Leonard Cohen,lol. (But I hope he never does!:D)

I think Chris has a fantastic voice but agree with the length of tour also this time contributing it is getting worse.

 

It's most noticeable in live performances of VLV in my opinion, where he sometimes just half-talks the lyrics, and seems out of breath.

 

I don't know why VLV should be harder than the other songs to get spot on live, but it is. At the 02 gig in December last year I didn't notice a problem with Chris' voice until they did VLV

I dont have a problem with Chris voice live..... i think he sounds great... i'm already aware that it wont sound the same as CD or in studio and all in all i'm please with what i hear

I think Chris's voice is diminishing a bit, but that is just due to wear and tear. But he can still sing pretty much how he could his whole career...just not as consistently and not always as strong. But I wouldn't be concerned about his voice. Bono has been doing it much longer, and he has been singing much more strenuous parts than Chris.

i love how his voice sometimes falters kinda and cracks, it makes it unique:) and really hard to pull of:D at least chris doesnt sing like this idiot:angry::(by the way, its just that picture....i think)
