What's up with Twilight?

Featured Replies

Everyone at my work was reading it at the same time and I refused to. It just seems really stupid. I'd rather spend my time reading a book about something that really happened.

The problem is with it that 80% or more Twilight fans are absolutely insane, as my friend once said. They're deranged. Screaming twelves abounds. I shudder.

I thought fans could not get crazier than Harry Potter fans (myself being one) but the Twilight fans proved me wrong..

I personally thought they could not get batshit crazier than Harry/Hermione shippers.

^ LOL

I get what you mean!

(I'm not a fan of Harry/Hermione and Hermione/Ron though. But let's not go there and turn this thread to a Harry Potter Shippers discussion)

I have read Twilight, and I think it's a good book. But I don't understand that 'Aww-Edward-is-hot-he-is-my-future-huspand'-thing. I just don't get it. Okay, he's good looking in the movie, that's it, he is fictional character. I liked Jasper better, he is the one with some promblems and issues.

But I liked the book, movie was good, but the book was many times better.

Yeah, it's that whole fangirl frenzy that really turns me off from the book/s, even though I haven't read it/them. That and all the sacriligious comparisons to Harry Potter. The notion I got is that the twilight fanbase consists largely of former HP 'shippers who moved on to a series that had all the romance and squees they loved, minus all the boring stuff.

Again, I'll trying REALLY hard to reserve judgement until I read it myself.

If you want to read some good fantasy/magic books can I reccomend the Watches series by Sergei Lukyanenko, there are 4 of them, The Night Watch,The Day Watch,The Twilight Watch and The Last Watch, all of them are really good.

^omg for some reason it sounds so familiar :stunned: i don't remember reading it but were there movies maybe made out of those books?

Everyone I know reads Twilight for the Edward-hotness. I tried to slog through it myself to see what all the fuss was about, but once I got to the part where he started sparkling I just said "yeah no this isn't a good book, sorry masses." I did not find it very "addictive;" actually I thought the writing style was sort of dull. All my freinds think I'm a lesbian now or something because I am not attracted to Edward and his vampiresome zomg hawtness. it's a little icky to not like Twilight at my school, actually...

I do know one poser boy who read it because he's a poser and he says he likes it (and he's straight, so he doesn't really read it for the Edward-hotness :P), but then again, if I haven't mentioned it he's a bit of a poser, so.

Agreed 100x.

Don't bother reading it, people. It's a piece of fanfiction shit. Actually, I think I'd write a better fanfiction than Stephanie Meyers.

If you want vampires, go for Anne Rice or Dracula, ffs.

i can't stand it!

omg when i hear girls crying for that FANTASTIC love scenes, and reading the book even before having breakfast, i do want to slap them :dozey: it's just so.. typical!!

moreover, a movie critic gave the film five stars.. more than slumdog millionaire, just as benjamin button!

unbelievable.

I agree with many people here,. the books are poorly written and so not worth the hype. The movie was not the best either, however Robert Pattinson is very nice to look at,.. so it's not a total waste watching it

Aha! My thoughts summed up! It does read eerily like fanfiction. I wouldn't care if it WERE fanfiction, I would label it "okay". But for a published work, it's kinda crappy in that regard.

What.

I hope he got fired.

I think that's because a good-sized contingent of Twilight fans were Harry/Hermione shippers that just migrated over when the HP series ended. There they were exposed to a much more romantic, 'shippy' environment where they adapted, multiplied and evolved into into a rabid species of batshit crazy mutants! (luckily there are no Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny to compete with in the Twilight series...otherwise we'd have a mass shipocide on our hands!)

Agreed...

And the movie is only worth watching if it doesn't cost you much, and if you want a laugh. That's why I bothered to see it

Yes there are movies made from them, although their not nearly as in depth as the books, their also in Russian with English subtitles, the books are well worth reading though.

Is it really a good movie/book or do people just like it because they think Edward is so hot? Just asking for opinions cause I have no clue what it really is...

Thanks :)

My personal opinion:

1. The books are okay, they are entertaining BUT they certainly aren't masterpieces.

2.The movie is rubbish.

the book isn't that bad

the movie i don't even know why i went to watch it i was laughing hysterically through it seriously i couldn't stop it was so gay, there was some girl beside me kept on saying Edward's so hot everytime she did i'd get a new wave of hysteria ( i do not understand all the "Edward marry me", "Edward is hot"and w.e. else ppl make up. LMAO btw the funniest yet is when they say Edward's hot, but not Robert Pattison, makes me go wtf doesn't he play him. c'mon edwards not real :laugh3:)

but i must say even though you didn't watch it the gayest part was when he was supposed to "sparkle" looked like goddamn sweat i left before the end, next day i came to school and one of my classmates told me she cried because it was so good. I was confused like never before :stunned:.

Basically, the books are tolerable, from a writer's point of view I am inclined to say plot etc are rather boring and typical. The movie, however, is the most unintentionally funny thing I've seen in a while. I could hear fangirls scowl as I laffed at their "dramatic scenes".

I totally agree with the two of you. The movie was definitely funny and i doubt it was supposed to be  I've tried to watch it..twice. I still haven't finished it. It was so darn boring and the actors totally sucked. It was totally lacking the good things the book had, which was a shame.

I don't get how someone can call that movie good, seriously :\

I don't even know if I could bear the movie...not only for the crap plot, but Kristen Stewart's bitchface would make me want to throw something at the screen.

Is the host good?

I think The Host is a very nice read. You should check it out. :)

This is exactly what I thought when I saw it. :D

I remember seeing the movie with my friend and everytime robert popped up she started screaming :\

The books were great but the movie was just annoying.
