The Quest for the Stanley Cup 2009

Featured Replies

The NHL might as well just hand the Capitals the Stanley Cup after that pathetic and embarrassing display of officiating in today's game. Brashear lays an extremely late and dirty hit on Blair Betts and nothing is called. The man elbowed Betts in the face, giving him a concussion well after Betts got rid of the puck (look at the replays). Yet, when Brandon Dubinsky pushes a Capital player into the boards, as well as gets bitten on the hand in a scrum, he gets a bloody 10 minute game misconduct! This is just BS!! I don't know what these refs are looking at, and I hate to blame the refs for ruining a game, but you HAVE to admit the refs totally blew it as they have been doing this whole Rangers-Caps series. Something's going on here and I don't like it. The NHL is a joke!

Yeah that was a bit shit.

But it doesn't matter. Caps were clearly the better team out there.

Funny Brashear anecdote told by Brian Burke. Something like this...

So one day Burke is in his office and gets a call from the Vancouver Fire Chief.

Fire Chief goes "Mr. Burke, we've had a incident with on of your players"

Burke goes "What happened?"

He goes "One of your players refused to pull over for our fire truck which was on it's way to an emergency call. He ignored the sirens and even honking. I think you know how serious this is, people can go to jail or face serious fines for this offense."

Burke goes "Okay, I understand. Who was it?"

"Donald Brashear"

Burke goes "Are you sure?"

Fire Chief goes "Absolutely certain. I'd appreciate it if you'd talk to him and explain to him the full significance of this issue."

And so Burke calls Brash into his office and tells him about the phone call. "Brash, the fire chief just called and said you refused to pull over for a fire truck. This is a big deal Brash. You could go to jail for this, or have to pay a big fine. And besides that, what if that fire truck had been going to your house?"

And Brash goes "Oh no Burkie, I live back the other way."

I dunno the level of truth of this. But I've heard it. :P

My poor Flyers are done for :cry2:

Couldn't be happier :P

And good to see Brashear got 6 games.

its funny how Brashear got suspended six games, yet did not get penalized for that hit. They should suspend those refs too!

Yes, I mean I am a die-hard Ranger fan (in case you haven't noticed), but I am smart enough to realize that the Caps absolutely have been the better team pretty much throughout this whole series. But there is something going on here don't you think? I really truly believe the NHL wants a Crosby/Ovie match up, simple for ratings and money. Anyway, don't listen to NBC or Versus... those guys are terrible announcers (esp. Eddy Olcheck, Mike Milbury, and Pierre McGuire)... the Rangers have a great chance of winning tomorrow, unfortunately the hockey fan inside things the Caps are going to pull through.

I despise Pierre McGuire as well. I also am hoping the Caps pull it out because I want to see Ovechkin play more. Hes just so entertaining to watch.

I honestly don't think the NHL is out to get the Rangers. I mean honestly, having the Rangers win the Cup is the best thing the league can have happen just because it is such a big market.

And plus the Rangers did have two 5 on 3 chances in the third period.

It would have been nice if the reffs called the Brashear thing, but they didn't. Its good they suspended him though.

I think the turning point of that game was when Naslund had a wide open net but went to his backhand...so instead of going up 2-1 they stayed tied 1-1.

The caps have an offensive juggernaut and they do not need the help of the reffs to win a playoff series.

oh totally agree, the Rangers' big names have not capitalized (no pun intended) on opportunities such as Naslund's. Even if the Rangers do somehow win tomorrow, there's no way they're beating Boston. I too love Ovie, he's a great player (how about that goal in Game 5? Holy smokes!) I would much rather him be in the finals than Cry Baby Crosby.

How about them Hawks beating Calgary? Good for them, glad to see they're relevant again! Watchin the Sharks/Ducks game right now, looks like Sharks are going down.

I was so tired at work this morning after staying up to watch those late games. But it was worth it.

Big Burt really hurt the Flames chances by taking that selfish penalty right off the bat. Glad to see that prediction come true. I'm still baffled that so many people were picking the Flames to win that series.

And then the Sharks. Wow. Biggest chokers ever. Like this is seriously the most choking I've ever seen an NHL franchise do in the playoffs. They suck! Woo Ducks!

Game 7 x2 tonight!

what prediction? back at the beginning of the thread? I forget? I think alot of eyes will be glued to the tv tonight to possibly see an upset of Jersey and the triumph of the Caps over the Rangers after getting the shit kicked out of them....thoughts? comments? concerns?

Big "Bert" didn't cause the other two goals. And he scored one to offset his own. And it's not like it was a matter of momentum because Calgary picked it up. Khabibulin just shut the door, period. That wasn't his fault.

Both game 5 and 6 he took penalties less than two minutes in. In both games Chicago scored on those power plays. Not a good way to start games.

And by the time he scored for Calgary it was over, maybe if he scored a meaningful goal it would have offset his mistake.

Bringing a game within two goals with a full period to play isn't really without meaning.

I dont know about this conversation. All I have to say is that I enjoyed the Caps game last night. I didnt know what to expect but it was definitely entertaining with end to end action. I think we can expect that in the Caps - Pens series depending on how well the caps play.

The Hawks will not be able to come back against the Canucks. They easily have the strongest Defense in the league behind Detroit and Boston. On par with the Ducks. They will do to the young guns of the Hawks what they did to the Blues.

Push them to the outside, reduce traffic in front do Luongo can makes the saves Kipper can't. It'll be a different series then that against Calgary. Hawks will get mad if they cant beat Lou and start gripping to tight and just lose it. It'll be a low scoring series.

I'm kind of hoping that isnt true. I quite enjoy the vast majority of the players on the hawks and the canucks did not really "walk over" the blues. A couple games the blues definately could have taken. I believe that they will push Vacancouver more than the Blues and they will crack their defence. Chicago in 6....

I think you're silly.

And we win! Kind of scary at the end there, but whatever. A win is a win is a win is a win.

I predicted Chicago in 7.

And they proved last night that even a 3-0 lead going into the 3rd is not safe. Even with a goalie like Luongo.

Go hawks!

P.S. its just wrong that Kyle Wellwood has some sweet playoff battle scars. He is one of the softest players out there. He went two seasons without taking a penalty!

We can do better though.

And totally about Wellwood. IT was hilarious the first penalty he got this year, he was like cracking up. And acutally he's being praised for his defensive (people are even saying his grit) around here. So lol, that makes me laugh. Quirky dude.
