She said some pretty nice things about him/Coldplay. I was listening on the radio at work.

 

Yeah it's not the greatest version, but at least she's tried something new with it. Is so easy to criticise someone, but there's worse out there. She writes all her own stuff, she's a classically trained pianist, she has a really great voice, she's not just a pop tart and at least she just didn't do a direct copy and call it a cover, like most people do.

 

She could have been the next Alicia Keys or whatever, but she isn't, she's trying something new. I'm not her greatest fan, but at the same time at least she isn't another chick having songs written for her then her vocals produced until they sound passable. :shrug:

Actually I somehow like it - but it doesn't sound like Viva La Vida to me. Except of the lyrics which do not really sound like Viva all the time anyway.

At least I know three pictures of her now very well. :dozey: But honestly, she shouldn't have covered it. I don't know her music so well and just know Pocker Face and Dance, but Coldplay doesn't seem to be something similar. And because she doesn't seem to want to change her ... 'individual' style for a cover, maybe Viva wasn't the best choice. In my opinion at least.

In my opinion, it was a bad cover. Her voice has absolutly no feeling, there's no atmosphere, just bad choosen lyrics and the changed melody she played wasn't very nice either.

Honestly, I didn't think it was that bad. Though I'm not a fan of her music, she has a pretty strong voice. It was different and fun, which is nice. I don't think I've heard a Coldplay cover from a major artist that I actually liked :/ (Except Natasha Bedingfield's take on The Scientist. The Live Lounge version was alright, but I saw some concert footage and thought it was lovely!)

 

And I think covers are really cool when they're in a totally different genre (like Snow Patrol covering Beyonce :dance:).

But only if the artist who is covering loves the song and knows how to express his love. There are a lot good covers crossing genre 'borders', but the artists perform with passion and this one ... I just hadn't the feeling she actually likes Viva. :rolleyes:

Lady Gaga did a cover of Viva La Vida, and she didn't know like any of the words/ changed the whole song basically.

I really despise it but I'm only posting it becayse I think it's funny in the end when she sings about Gwenyth and Chris.
