The Cure

Featured Replies

I'm not criticising The Cure. Some of their songs are pretty good!! Lullaby, for example.;)

They're definitely far better than "headbanging" music.:D

thanks tomorrow i'll check the album where Lullaby song is in.

and who decides what music is headbanging? :dozey:

have you listened any of those bands to critizise them or build a clear theory about it or what?

and i end it here, as i don't want to go off-topic.

Good idea!:D

The spiderman comes........................

In my opinion, the Cure are one of the greatest bands of all-time. Wish is a really good album. High, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Friday I'm in Love, A Letter to Elise, and (my personal favorite) To Wish Impossible Things. Check out Disintegration - it is their best album IMO.

As for people who insist on using labels, Goth is probably a fair label, but it is far too limiting. A song like "In Between Days" is a pure pop song, and the Cure have a number of them.

The Cure have a unique sound, and they cannot really be lumped in with other groups. Robert Smith is amazing in terms of his delivery and lyrics. I love the Cure.

I loved that one.

I've noticied that from the very begining of the album that i've checked.

So i guess that i've started with the right album, so which one you advice me to check next to get into their music more? :)

^ That's easy...."Disintegration."

Thanks, that one sounds good too :D

i liked "pictures of you", "lullaby", "prayers for rain".

i like their sound and their long intros. :)

I like the long intros, too. Also, I really like "Disintegration" (the actual song) and "Plainsong". Plus, you get "Love Song" and "Fascination Street," which are both classics.

The Cure does some songs that I don't care for (but nothing on the album Disintegration). I am drawn to the dreamy, romantic, dark sound that they have. Songs like Pictures of You. I like (don't love) the new album, but listen to a song like "Underneath the Stars." That's the classic Cure sound, and I love it.

I also like the more pop oriented sound the Cure puts out. One of my favorite songs is "In Between Days," and I also love "Push" and "Friday, I'm in Love." They are very diverse, and that's why anyone who knows anything about the band knows that an overarching label such as Goth is not appropriate. It's only part of the picture.

yes i liked those ones too.

well it happen to all, bands i don't listen all the songs of some bands, (on the first listen sure i do, but later on i keep listening some of them only).

yes i've noticied it the dreamy romantic dark sound, pretty good that.

I'll check those ones you mention ;) (the whole albums where those are in)

and i agree totally about the goth thing, i guess people label them just for the singer's outfits and all, that's so poor thing to do :dozey:

thanks a lot :nice:

Just want to point out that an amazing album, Disintegration, is going to be released as a deluxe re-mastered version later this month. In my opinion, it's one of the greatest albums of all time.

I haven't listened to them too much but I really love the songs Friday I'm In Love and Underneath the Stars... great songs!

I love Underneath the Stars, as well. In fact, it was the only song I really enjoyed off the last album. Disintegration has a lot of songs that have the same feel to it. As much as I love The Cure, they have a lot of music I don't care for. However, I've found two things to be true:

1. Disintegration is flawless

2. When the Cure are at their best, their best is better than almost any other band, IMO.

I was going to have moar Cure on my iPod but then it dieded :bigcry:

Excellent. I just pulled out this cd for the first time in a loooooong time. I'd forgotten how much I loved it. Plainsong, Pictures of You, Love Song and Untitled are probably my favorites. Oh, so good, all of it. But my favorite Cure song is probably Halo- a b-side from Friday I'm in Love. I haven't kept up with them since Wish... I should check out their latest stuff.

Yeah, disintegration is a great album, and I think it can definetly benefit from remastering. If you watch the Trilogy DVD, and hear the sound quality of Plainsong (which might get my vote for best opening track to any album), you recognize that the album version could be sharper. I am excited to hear what it sounds like.

I wouldn't knock myself out listening to post-Wish Cure. It is very, very, spotty IMO. The track gloaming09 mentioned, Underneath the Stars, is by far the best track since Wish. I do think Wish is very good album, too.

But its always been about Disintegration for me. I just love that album.

Wow... they have an incredible site up now with info on the remaster, as well as streaming alternate takes, live versions and demos...

very, very cool.

That website is amazing. Can't wait for this album. Some of these tracks need a serious boast to them. I am interested to see how it sounds.

Has anyone bought the Disintegration Remaster? It's available on iTunes, but I want to wait for the physical packaging.

I listened to the deluxe edition on Spotify the other day (I guess it's the same). Disintegration is one of my favourite albums of any artist/group so it could barely get better :D Loved the demo versions of the songs.

^ Cool. Disintegration is one of my all time favorite albums, too. Could you tell a noticeable difference in the sound quality from the streams you listened to?
