One Year of Violet Hill

Exactly one year ago, BBC6 Music and XFM radio were preparing to air the world premiere of Coldplay's newest single, Violet Hill.

 

Chris and Jonny were in the radio studio and had brought the song with them, ready for it to be unleashed for the very first time.

 

The song was aired and so a new era for Coldplay had begun.

 

15 minutes later, the song was ready for download on the all-new Coldplay.com - and it all began.

I went online and found that almost 2000 Coldplayers are already waiting on the board. :stunned:

 

I was too late for the world premiere, and the download page on Coldplay.com takes forever to load. But I still can listen to the song, because some Coldplayers are too kind to rip the song for me! :D

 

Is there anyone who still remember about a user which gave us some hints and predictions on the VLVODAAHF tracks a week before the Violet Hill premiere? And the predictions are all true.

As for myself, we were lucky in eastern Australia in that the whole Violet Hill epidemic occurred at a reasonable hour (9:00PM-ish).

 

I was sitting on my bed in complete darkness listening to the live radio stream from the UK.

 

I was so hyped that my heart wouldn't stop beating for about 2 hours afterwards! :D :P

That was amazing night i remember tuning into BBC Radio online and almost missed it, then I rushed to grab it off Coldplay.com however by then it had crashed, 30 minutes later i had the track and for the rest of the night i played it non stop

i do remember how excited i was - after hearing the last few chrords of the song, mentally wow-ing and thinking how great this would become in the next week or so.

and also, it taking over half an hour afterwards to try and download it off such an overloaded site - good times. :P

The sheer anticipation at the time was unbearable. But to finally here it was such a relief and fantastic.

Everytime I hear the opening of that song, I think about getting up really early to download it and putting on my state of the art headphones and hitting play and then just staring at the computer with my eyes wide open and my heart beating fast. I get that same EXACT feeling everytime I hear the opening of that song. It's weird hearing it now because we've heard it 10000000x, but that morning not knowing what to expect. And then Chris first chimes in 'Was a long and dark December...'

I remember downloading it as soon as I could here in the states ... listened to it and was just instantly taken with how different it was for the boys...and how much I LOVED it with just one playing!! Played it many times over that first day ... and just couldn't imagine having to wait for the CD to be released! knowing that so much more was to come!!! All of us in our family are CP addicted...we still have this CD in our cars, on the iPods... and on the laptops... Saw them last November in Atlanta and will see them this August in Charlotte. ~thought about the fact that this song was given to us a year ago just the other day in fact - great idea to post the question!~

I woke up at 6:50 am to turn on the pc and listen online... coldplaying was really slow because there were lots of people online... it was really exciting

I remember going through a terrible time and the only thing keeping me alive was the fact that Violet Hill was coming out. I skipped lunch to listen to it and the suspense was great while I waited for Jo to announce the song. Afterwards, I spent the entire day listening to it and thinking that it was just an amazing song.

I got up early to try and get it and my internet kept disconnecting, i couldn't get it so had to go to school, when I got there one of my mates said 'I just heard the new coldplay song on the radio' and I was like- NO WAY! When I got back home, i rushed to the computer and downloaded :D....I listened to it over and over again for ages- it was so different yet so amazing, I was like WOW!!!!! It was a great!

I still remember so clearly! Coldplay.com was down so I couldn't get it before school, so I brought my laptop to school to download it there... I finally got it right before Latin class started, and I just sat there like :stunned:, played it over and over, and then forced my class to listen :P

I wasn't able to be online when download aired, cause of work, but onmy way home I was driving past rotterdam airport, I heard it on the radio for the first time, and I think I cried and squeed and danced in my seat.. I came home downloaded the song, and said to my (now ex)boyfriend.. prepare yourself.. you'll be hearing this ALOT from now on :P

I spent so long debating whether or not to get up, cuz I wasn't sure about the time it would be released. I didn't want to wake up super early for nothing. So I slept in and immediately downloaded it as soon as I got home from school. I was shocked as son as the guitar solo started, I was like "Coldplay doing a solo? WTF?"
