Cat Stevens too accuses Coldplay from plagiarism

Featured Replies

I just read an article that Cat Stevens accuses Coldplay of plagiarism. He claims they have stolen the tune from VLV from one of his songs.

Another one who smells money, I guess... :(

Here's the link to the article. It's in Dutch, but you can hear the song that should sound like VLV. I've listened to it, and to me it doens't sound like it AT ALL.

Cat Stevens: 'Coldplay stole my song!'

Singer accuses Chris Martin and co of ripping him off

Add Coldplay to MyNME

Cat Stevens has said that he believes that Coldplay's hit 'Viva La Vida' is a take-off of his own song, 'Foreigner Suite'.

Coldplay recently denied accusations by guitarist Joe Satriani, who claims that the band ripped him off for the song – but Stevens has since told The Sun that it's he who the band had been taking inspiration from.

"There's been this argument about Coldplay stealing this melody from Joe Satriani," he said. "But, if you listen to it, it's mine! It's the [1973 song] 'Foreigner Suite', it is!"

Stevens did not suggest that he would take legal action against the band.

In 2003 The Flaming Lips agreed to split royalties for their song 'Fight Test' with Stevens after it was deemed to be similar to his 1970 hit 'Father And Son'.

Already getting some comments... here we go again!!

you´re absolutely right. it doesnt sounds like VLV!!!!

He only smells the money.

stupid man!!!!!!:veryangry2:

They all smell the money! It's tall poppy syndrome. But the wolves are circling!!

:veryangry2::veryangry2::veryangry2: WAR!!!!!!!

But would this actually back up the bands claim that the Satriani song isn't original

Excellent point. Now start to make the comparisons between this and Satriani's!!

This actually helps the Coldplay case, rather than hindering it.

Thanks Cat :P

OMG again:shocked2:

Creaky Boards + Joe Satriani + Cat Stevens = Losers :)

Skipping to fifteen minutes in Cat's song its hardly anything, actually a half decent song

And as you say this only helps with that pointless case from the guitar player ;)

I will eat my pants up,if there is any resemblance

no resemblance imo.

btw don't should be Yusuf Islam who should accuse of plagiarism since that's his new name, or he has changed his name legaly and keeps his older name for his works?

Yeah saw this earlier and went to youtube to listen to the song. I didn't hear anything that resembles VLV.

You are right!!!!!

This is redicilous.. (or how you spell it)

There no link between that to songs!

Well I've been saying the Satriani snippet sounds like that for ages. This just backs it up.

It's a simple tune/chord progression, it's easy to come up with on your own, and Cat Stevens got their first, so everyone else can just shut up. Hear that Satriani? (Question is, why isn't he going after Satriani with that statement too?)

"Lacks originality". *nods*

.....p.s. post 4,666. *shivers*

start listening at about 5:15 and there is a bit of a resemblance.... but it's a realllllly realllly insanely big stretch. like honestly... no.

omg are u kidding me?!?! HAHAH :laugh3: this is absolutely rediculous!!!

this just goes to show how awesome Viva La Vida is as a song, everyone else wishes it was their song!

please

If I were Coldplay, I'd be extremely flattered. It seems so many people want to grab credit for a fantastic song that THEY created. Hmm...guess they have nothing better to do.

Know anyone who had a new CD released in the UK today? anybody fancy generating a bit of free publicity for their new album?

WTF is wrong with all those VLA pretenders?? The success of VLV & Coldplay attracts more & more jerks aiming for money !!

So...does anyone NOT think they wrote Viva La Vida before Coldplay? :laugh3:
