i would agree that the 80's was a good decade in music, but 90's with so many pop bands around, i don't know what to say about that decade. :\

The best era was late 60s' early 70s

:laugh3: How many times have we had this discussion only to solve nothing. It's all personal preference. I, too, prefer the 80s and 90s, but that's just my opinion. I know I'm never going to convince those who disagree, so what is the point?

the 90s was the best period for music since the late 60s....some great bands in the 90s....smashing pumpkins, oasis, nirvana etc

this. I had a discussion with a friend (who majored in music), that said music was more powerful than anything else in the entertainment world in the 1970's. he specifically said that 1971 was a key year.

 

For me if I had to choose favorite decades the order would be:

 

70's

60's

00's

90's

80's

What was so special about the 80's and 90's? The groundbreaking ideas and trends were in the 60's and 70's. And I personally like the 00's because a lot of my favorite bands have been at their best this decade. But nothing extremely earth-shattering has happened in a long time in music.

i said on another thread that the 90s were when alternative rock peaked and that being my fave genre it makes it the obvious choice. although i hate the 80s i'll admit that some of my favourite bands are from that era. and i dont see any reason for shutting this thread, it makes for interesting discussion. but knowing this place im sure some moron/s will get on their high horse and start their own little tirade.
